  • This study aims to identify the learning behavior patterns recognized by students to find effective tutoring operational methods, and further analyze the impact of learning behavior patterns on academic performance and learning satisfaction. To this end, 105 participants in the tutoring program at D University based in Busan Metropolitan City collected data and conducted descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and regression analysis according to research problems. First, the study found that students who participated in tutoring had the most environment-dependent and self-taught learning behavioral styles and environment-independent and self-taught learning behavioral style. Second, the correlation between learning behavioral styles and academic achievement and learning satisfaction shows that there is a high correlation between positive and cooperative learning behavioral styles and environment-independent and self-taught learning behavioral styles. Third, regression analysis on academic achievement and learning satisfaction showed that positive and cooperative learning behavioral styles significantly affects learning satisfaction, but environment-independent and self-taught learning behavioral style, environment-dependent and self-taught learning behavioral style, and passive learning behavioral style were not significant. These results suggest that from the school perspective, learning behavior can be recognized as an important factor in students' academic success and failure, so instructors need to check learners' learning behavior patterns and provide appropriate tutoring teaching and learning design plans.

  • Acute toxicity test and behavioral change analysis of seawater acclimated Japanese medaka were conducted to identify the brine effects on fish by seawater desalination. 7 day acute toxicity test of brine revealed linear concentration-response relationship from 40.0~80.0 psu treatment groups. There was no significant brine effect for 30-40 psu groups and mass mortality was observed from >50 psu exposure (7-day $LC_{50}$=51.4 psu). Images from the real time camera system were analyzed to observe the changes in behavioral patterns of medaka exposed to various salinity. 40.0 and 50.0 psu exposed groups were stabilized in behavioral patterns after 3.1 and 4.6 hours, respectively and 60.0 psu group showed sharp increase in activity during first 12 hours and 50% mortality thereafter. Similar patterns were observed to 70 and 80 psu groups and both experimental groups showed 100% mortality within 12 hours. Acute toxicity test and behavioral patterns showed very similar toxicity results which revealed the increases in mortality and behavioral activities from 50.0 psu. This critical salinity for fish impacts must be implemented to brine discharge strategy by seawater desalination into the coastal area. Also, we recommend that real time camera monitoring system must be a useful tool for early warning of fish toxicity for other applications. • The goal of this research was to understand the patterns of multidimensional engagement in MOOCs. An email with an online survey link was sent to enrollees in an MOOC course. The survey included 35 questions asking about engagement, teaching presence, and learning persistence. The items were validated in the literature, revised for the MOOC setting, reviewed by four professionals in the field of educational technology, and used in the study. A heterogeneous group of 170 individuals gathered through convenience sampling participated in the study. With cluster analysis of the engagement data, three groups were identified: Cluster1, 2, and 3. Cluster 1 scored high on behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement. Cluster 2 scored high on behavioral aspects but low on emotional and cognitive engagement. Cluster 3 scored low on behavioral and cognitive engagement but high on emotional aspects. The study addressed cluster-specific learner characteristics and differences in perceived teaching presence and learning persistence. Design strategies pertaining to each cluster were further discussed. These strategies may guide instructors and practitioners in the design and management of MOOCs and should be further validated through future studies.

  • This study was conducted to define dietary patterns and to evaluate the effects of socioeconomic, acculturation and lifestyle factors on dietary patterns among 2,746 Korean- Americans in California. It was a cross-sectional telephone survey based on a representative sampling of individuals with a Korean surname using residential phone listings. It was conducted using a food frequency questionnaire that covered 20 food items, socioeconomic variables such as age, gender, income, education and acculturation, and lifestyle factors such as body weight, alcohol consumption, smoking, exercise and consumption of fast food. Four dietary patterns were identified: American Foods (AF), American Breakfast (AB), Korean Foods (KF) and Vegetables (Ⅴ). AF was associated with younger men, acculturation and fast food consumption. AB was associated with women, higher education, current smoking and fast food consumption. KF was associated with acculturation and lower socioeconomic status. Ⅴ was associated with lifestyle factors such as smoking, exercising and fast food consumption. The results of the study showed that socioeconomic and lifestyle factors influenced the dietary patterns of Korean- Americans. This should be considered when dietary interventions are designed for Korean-Americans to improve their health status.

  • As a study on activities associated with sleeping, this paper is aimed to trace a behavior log by differentiating human behavior patterns. Toward this research purpose, we define a behavior log and a simplified feature vector about human behavior patterns associated with sleeping. Then, based on thresholds of the feature vector, we did experiments applying the individual-base behavior pattern decision algorithm to human behavior patterns. The important results derived from these experiments indicate that the proposed approach reflecting individual behavioral characteristics is more useful than the existing single group approach.

  • The assessment of earthquake hazards involved consideration of earthquake magnitude, frequency, last movement and probability of occurrence. The appraisal of earthquake potential is feasible because historical data show a good correlation between earthquake size and the fault rupture parameters of length, displacement, and area. Additionally, the characteristics of fault behavior should be considered to evaluate the earthquake potential magnitude. In this study, in order to evaluate the earth quake potential by the fault behavioral patterns, based on the experimental background which the geometric characteristics of the individual domains, such as strike, width, fault tip patterns, and orientation of secondary shears reflect sliding behavioral patterns in each section, the straight sections of A, D and E domains were examined to the creeping section of stably sliding. In contrast, the curved section of B domain was examined to the locked section of stick-slip movement. These results of studies can be applied to evaluate the earthquake potential magnitude from the fault structural parameters.

  • C4ISR system is an important tool for military operational command and control. Therefore, it is frequently exposed to the cyber-terror attempt to paralyze the military command and control system. Generally, the information system uses IDS and firewall as major security computing tools. C4ISR system also uses them as major measures for the information protection. But the usefulness of IDS is reduced due to the frequent false-positives and false-negatives if the behavioral patterns are modified or new behavioral patterns appear. This paper presents new IDS structure which can create modified attack patterns and unexpected attack patterns automatically during IDS probing process. The proposed IDS structure is expected to enhance the information protection capability of the C4ISR system by reducing false-positives and false-negatives through the creation and verification of new attack patterns.

  • Using a person-centered approach, the current study investigated latent profiles for the emotional and behavioral problems of students in sixth-grade in elementary school and second grade of middle school. The aim was to explore latent transition patterns and verify the factors affecting the transitions. The participants were 1,937 adolescents who responded to the 3rd year (6th grade of elementary school; Time 1), 4th year (1st grade of middle school), and 5th year (2nd grade of middle school; Time 2) of the Korean Children Youth Panel Study. Latent profile and latent transition analyses were performed. The results were as follows: first, the latent profile of emotional and behavioral problems changed from Time 1 to Time 2. The latent groups at Time 1 were classified into low, moderate, high, and externalizing-dominant, whereas at Time 2, five groups were identified: low, moderate, high, externalizing-dominant, and withdrawal-dominant. Second, transition analyses revealed that although 22.3-57.0% of latent groups remained unchanged, there were significant changes over time between groups, as a new group ('withdrawal-dominant') emerged in Time 2. Third, different factors influenced the latent profile transition of emotional and behavioral problems depending on the transition pattern. Higher levels of self-esteem, better relationships with peers and teachers, and lower levels of parental inconsistency meant emotional and behavioral problems had not worsened at Time 2. The results suggest that early interventions are needed during the transition from childhood to early adolescence.
