  • This study analyzed the teacher's perception for influence of behavioral characteristics of scientifically-gifted students on general students in elementary school science class. To do this, we selected the eight elementary school teachers who were conducting the regular science classes including scientifically-gifted students belonging to the gifted education institutes in Seoul and conducted individual in-depth interviews. The analysis of the results reveal that the teachers mentioned seven behavioral characteristics of scientifically-gifted students in general elementary school science classes.: 'excellent in designing and performing experiments', 'playing a leading role in experiments', 'expressing their abundant prior knowledge frequently', 'attempting their tasks with curiosity and persistence', 'displaying scientific creativity', 'often asking scientific questions in detail', and 'expressing their opinions logically'. These behavioral characteristics of scientifically-gifted students had positive effects on general students, such as 'providing them with a successful experience in conducting experiments', 'improving understanding of science class contents', 'developing scientific thinking and reflective thinking', and 'improving their students' positive experiences about science'. However, the excessive learning-driven behaviors of scientifically-gifted students had negative effects on general students, such as 'limiting opportunities for general students to participate in classes', 'conducting passive exploration centered on results', and 'causing conflicts with general students'. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

  • This study was intended to suggest the design guidelines of the space for the elderly with dementia. To achieve this, the behavioral characteristics of the elderly with dementia were grasped, and the design cases which were considered and reflected of the behavioral characteristics of the elderly with dementia were examined. Then, the effective space design guidelines which met the behavioral characteristcs of the elderly with dementia were suggested. The behaviors of the elderly with dementia were categorized into cognitive, emotional, and functional behavior. The positive influences of space design on dementia symptom were founded in the planned living environments, accessible and visible location of common space such as living room, soft and homelike interior finishes and lighting, and healing garden. Therefore, the space design for the elderly with dementia should be done on the basis of the dementia symptoms and healing effects.

  • This paper suggests the passenger model considered evacuation behavioral characteristics on the passenger ship fire using a rules-based agent technique. The existing evacuation simulation system was modeled only passenger speed. The speed-based model considered passenger's physical characteristics, so it couldn't consider evacuation behavioral characteristics. For solving this problem, we modeled the passenger model using a rule-based agent applied evacuation behavioral characteristics. The rule-based agent consists of knowledge base and inference engine. In knowledge base, we represented evacuation behavioral characteristics, and chose the examples of the evacuation behavioral characteristics to show various patterns of behavior. And we simulated in the IMO MSC/Circ.1238 example 8 and we proved the simulation results could represent variety patterns of human behavior.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and validate of the K-SRBCSS (Korean Version of Scales for Rating the Behavioral Characteristics of Superior Students), considering educational-social context and linguistic differences. The developed K-SRBCSS includes 58 items, which are consisted of 55 items from translation of original SRBCSS into Korean and three newly developed items that reflect Korean situation. Teachers and parents rated students' behavioral characteristics about 58 items in 6 scales. The results of this study were as follows. K-SRBCSS is valid and reliable scale. The differences of the rating of characteristics between gifted students and general students if significant. Gifted students got higher scores on every scales than general students. It means K-SRBCSS is useful to discriminate the gifted. The differences of the rating between parents and teachers showed insignificant results, which mean that teachers and parents rate students's characteristics similarly. K-SRBCSS will be a very useful scale that could find some hidden talents if this scales would use complementarily with other sophistication methods in identifying the gifted.

  • The relationship between users and physical elements of environmental gives a space special characteristics. The Environment Probabilitism by Altman shows that behavior and environment, both response, effect each other construct their characteristics. People can choose their response consciously or unconsciously during their walking , sitting, standing, talking in their environment. Designing a good place can lead people to the goal that they want and designer intend to get, A good place well designed as an positive place is organised with 3 points(1) User's behavior (2) physical elements in environment (3) meanings produced between behavior and physical elements. In this study the importance of physical elements are focused on. In the place where we can have permeability, variety , legibility, robutness, visual appropriateness, richness, personalisation physically , these characteristics will encourage people to have strong motivation and to choose the most active way . From this perspective the circulation of physically handicapped persons is analyzed into their behavioral environment and their behavioral response. The analysis shows the handicapped in our situation has no environmental right for a man itself ,even they have no street to walk safely. And their response to the environment was very negative. Basically the elements from exterior space to interior space should be guaranteed for everyday according to their behavioral characteristics include handicapped. From this study the result shows that the needs of a person should be considered and accepted as an important design problem for improvement our environment.

  • In mountain accident events, it is important for the search team commander to determine the search area in order to secure the Golden Time. Within this period, assistance and treatment to the concerned individual will most likely prevent further injuries and harm. This paper proposes a method to determine the search priority area based on missing persons behavior and missing persons incidents statistics. GIS (Geographic Information System) and MCDM (Multi Criteria Decision Making) are integrated by applying WLC (Weighted Linear Combination) techniques. Missing persons were classified into five types, and their behavioral characteristics were analyzed to extract seven geographic analysis factors. Next, index values were set up for each missing person and element according to the behavioral characteristics, and the raster data generated by multiplying the weight of each element are superimposed to define models to select search priority areas, where each weight is calculated from the AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) through a pairwise comparison method obtained from search operation experts. Finally, the model generated in this study was applied to a missing person case through a virtual missing scenario, the priority area was selected, and the behavioral characteristics and topographical characteristics of the missing persons were compared with the selected area. The resulting analysis results were verified by mountain rescue experts as 'appropriate' in terms of the behavior analysis, analysis factor extraction, experimental process, and results for the missing persons.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify and comprehensively explain the SCM-related factors involved in the realization of RTE, including the quality of information concerning SCM, the quality of SCM partnerships, and relationship controlling factors (planning control, behavioral control, and outcome control). This study systematizes the interactions among these factors into a form of a model, elucidating how these interactions affect and shape RTE characteristics. To validate the research model proposed in the study, filed survey was conducted with 79 staffs in Korean company using SCM. The findings of the study can be summarized as follows: First, the quality of information concerning SCM had significant effect on the quality of SCM partnerships, planning control, behavioral control, and outcome control. Not only does the quality of SCM information directly influence the quality of SCM partnerships, planning control, behavioral control, and outcome control; but it also indirect influence on forecasting, agility, and visibility of SCM though its influence on the different forms of relationship control. Second, the quality of SCM partnerships also had significant effect on planning control, behavioral control, and outcome control. In addition to directly influencing these forms of relationship control, the quality of SCM partnerships also indirectly influenced forecasting, agility, and visibility though its influence on relationship control. Third, planning control significantly influenced forecasting, agility and visibility. Fourth, behavioral control significantly influenced forecasting, but neither agility nor visibility. Fifth, outcome control had significant influence on forecasting, agility, and visibility.

  • The current study examined the effects of socio-demographic characteristics and peer relations on the emotional, behavioral, and comorbid disorder symptoms among low-low-SES children, using the Young Lives Survey: an International Study of Childhood Poverty: Round 1, 2002. Participants were 1,000 8-year-old children (502 boys and 498 girls) from low-low-SES families. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, t-tests, post hoc test (Scheffe's method), correlations, and multiple logistic regression analyses according to the analysis strategy. There was a moderate correlation between selected socio-demographic variables and emotional/behavioral disorder symptoms, and the caregiver's marital status, child's health compared to others, child's work status corresponded to significant differences in their emotional/behavior levels. Regarding the logistic regression analysis, in addition to the effects of socio-demographic variables reflecting the characteristics of less-developed countries, marital status, child's working status, and conflicts with peers proved to be detrimental to emotional, behavioral, or comorbid disorder symptoms in low-SES children, who have been lack quality parenting, social resources, and child human rights. Results indicated the need to develop health care services that would address those problems and appropriate intervention and prevention programs targeting children in low-income families. Moreover, careful assessment and intervention for child's health status, child's working status and peer relationship problems are suggested as possible strategies for helping children at risk of exhibiting further problematic behaviors.

  • The animal welfare issues in cattle breeding include breeding environment, elimination, and castration. Among these, castration is unavoidable because it decreases cattle aggressiveness, improves meat quality, and enhances feed efficiency. In this study, the degree of stress associated with various methods of castration treatment was investigated for animal welfare in Hanwoo breeding. Cortisol levels dramatically increased right after castration in both the SoF and SoV groups. However, the increase in the SoF group was significantly (P<0.05) higher than that in the SoV group, and the range of decrease was also smaller. Among the behavioral characteristics, standing was significantly (P<0.05) higher in the SoV ($374.93{\pm}21.51$) and SoF ($379.93{\pm}21.30$) groups based on the behavioral time (min/12 hours) compared to that in the NC group ($359.37{\pm}19.69$). The SoF and SoV groups did not show any significant (P<0.05) difference. In terms of behavioral frequency, the NC group demonstrated a significantly (P<0.05) high frequency of drinking, self-grooming, scratching, and rubbing, and a significantly (P<0.05) less frequency of fighting behavior. The feeding time significantly (P<0.05) decreased in the SoV and SoF groups, and their frequencies of pairwise grooming were significantly (P<0.05) less. Based on the results, the cattle experienced less stress during castration by a veterinarian than during treatment using a move-stop.
