In this study a new analytical model which can describe the relationship between the bridging stress and microstructure has beenproposed in order to investigate the microstructural effect on the R-curve behavior in polycrystalline aluminas since the R-curve can be derived via the bridging stress function. In the currently developed model function the distribution of grain size is considered as a microstructural factor in modeling of bridging stress function and thus the bridging stress function including three constants PM, n, and Cx, can be established analytically and quantitatively. The results indicate that the n value is closely related to the grain size distribution thereby providing a reliability of the current model for the bridging stress analysis. Thus this model which explains the correlation of the bridging stress distribution and microstructual parame-ters is useful for the systematic interpretation of microfracture mechanism including the R-curve behavior in polycrystalline aluminas.
The optical constants ($E_g^d$, n, K) of the polycrystalline CdSe thin films deposited on the glass substrate by the electron-beam evaporation technique are determined over 400~2,500 nm photon wavelengths. In order to explain the variation of the optical contents with film thickness and substrate temperatures, the surface microstructural parameter are investigated by AFM (atomic forced microscope( images for the films deposited by different growth conditions. It is shown that the variations of optical constants are close related to changes of the surface morphology of the CdSe thin films. The decrease in the band gap with film thickness is connected with quantum size effects due to increase of the grain size. The refractive index of CdSe films decrease with increasing the grain size of the films, and the dispersion of the refractive index followed a single oscillator model according to the Sellmeier formulation.

In this study, we compared the measured values of the effective beam size of standard gamma irradiator with the simulation results to provide a useful means to the effective beam area determination. Results of the simulation and measured using ion chamber was distributed in a relative error of 4.5 ~ 7.3% of the case of air kerma rate. The size of the effective beam area is when the simulation was implemented in the horizontal direction 27cm, 21.6cm vertical direction, the measured result using a film was obtained similar results with the horizontal direction 26.5cm, 21.9cm vertical direction. The relative error in the horizontal direction is 1.85% and 1.38% vertical effective beam area was also similarly distributed around the field gamma rays. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the effectiveness of the simulation was sufficient for the gamma irradiation system. In particular, it is small relative errors in the effective beam size than the air kerma rate is considered to be due to the size of the beam is determined by geometric factors rather than the capacity of the standard source. A further study is needed to improve the reliability of the photon energy distribution diagram using simulation.
The beam size and the antenna efficiency of TRAO 14m radio telescope were measured at 86.2, 98.0 and 115.2 GHz. The beam size was determined by deconvolving the azimuthal scanning data of the Venus. To test the accuracy of our deconvolution method, the beam size at 86.2 GHz was compared with that determined from the mapping data of SiO maser line and we found no difference between them. With above beam sizes, antenna efficiencies were calculated from the continuum measurements of Venus, Jupiter and Moon. The beam efficiencies at these frequencies are appeared to be 0.49, 0.45 and 0.41, respectively. On the other hand, we also suggest that an automatic focus setting can be adopted for TRAO radio telescope based on the gradual change of best focus with elevation.
Recently linear accelerator of radiation therapy intensity modulated radiation therapy, stereotactic radiation therapy are widely used. Such radiation treatment techniques are generally difficult to exclude the small field by using the inverse treatment plan. It is necessary to dose an accurate measurement of characteristics of the small field. Thus, using different detectors to measure the volume of the effective percentage depth dose, beam profile, and the output factor of the small field was to evaluate the dose characteristics of each detector. Experimental results for the X-ray beam 6 MV energy beam quality($PDD_{20}/PDD_{10}$) is $10{\times}10cm^2$ Diode detector is as high as 2.4% compared to Pinpoint detector. All field size to lesser effective volume of Diode detector shows that it is far better than other detectors by more than 50% of small penumbra, therefore spatial resolution far excellent. In field size $2{\times}2cm^2$ Semiflex detector was measured about 2% less than the other detector. Field size $1{\times}1cm^2$ is that there is no judgment about the validity show the difference between 20%. Field size $1{\times}1cm^2$ from the measured values of the Diode detector and Pinpoint detector showed a 13% difference. Less than field size $3{\times}3cm^2$ the feed to the difference between the output factor of the effective volume of the detector to be used for the effective volume available to the detector.
The purpose of the Monte Carlo simulation study was to provide the optimized nozzle design to satisfy the beam conditions for biomedical researches in the Korean heavy-ion accelerator, RAON. The nozzle design was required to produce $C^{12}$ beam satisfying the three conditions; the maximum field size, the dose uniformity and the beam contamination. We employed the GEANT4 toolkit in Monte Carlo simulation to optimize the nozzle design. The beams for biomedical researches were required that the maximum field size should be more than $15{\times}15cm^2$, the dose uniformity was to be less than 3% and the level of beam contamination due to the scattered radiation from collimation systems was less than 5% of total dose. For the field size, we optimized the tilting angle of the circularly rotating beam controlled by a pair of dipole magnets at the most upstream of the user beam line unit and the thickness of the scatter plate located downstream of the dipole magnets. The values of beam scanning angle and the thickness of the scatter plate could be successfully optimized to be $0.5^{\circ}$ and 0.05 cm via this Monte Carlo simulation analysis. For the dose uniformity and the beam contamination, we introduced the new beam configuration technique by the combination of scanning and static beams. With the combination of a central static beam and a circularly rotating beam with the tilting angle of $0.5^{\circ}$ to beam axis, the dose uniformity could be established to be 1.1% in $15{\times}15cm^2$ sized maximum field. For the beam contamination, it was determined by the ratio of the absorbed doses delivered by $C^{12}$ ion and other particles. The level of the beam contamination could be achieved to be less than 2.5% of total dose in the region from 5 cm to 17 cm water equivalent depth in the combined beam configuration. Based on the results, we could establish the optimized nozzle design satisfying the beam conditions which were required for biomedical researches.
Purpose : The determination of electron beam output factor was investigated from individual applicator for various energy of ML-15MDX linear accelerator. The output factor of electron beam was extended from square to rectangular field in individual applicator size through with a least-square fit to a polynomial expression. Materials : In this experiments. the measurement of output was obtained from 2${\times}$cm$^2$ to 20${\times}$20cm$^2$ of field size in different applicator size for 4 to 15 MaV electron beam energy. The output factor was defined as the ratio of maximum dose output on the central axis of the field of individual applicator size to that of a given field size. Applicator factors were derived from comparing with the output dose of reference field size 10${\times}$10cm$^2$. The thickness of block was specially designed as 10mm in thickness of Lipowitz metal for field shaping in all electron energy. Two types of output curves are included as output factors versus side of square fields and that of variable side length for X and Y in one-dimensional to compare the expected values to that of experiments. Results : Expected output factors of rectangular which was derived from that of square fields in individual applicator size from 2${\times}$2cm$^2$ to 20${\times}$20cm$^2$ in different electron energy was very closed to that of experimental measurements within 2% uncertainty. However 1D method showed a 3% discrepancy in small rectangular field for low energy electron beam. Conclusion : Emperical non-linear polynomial regressions of square root and 1D method were performed to determin the output factor in various field size and electron energy. The expected output of electron beam of square root method for square field and 1D method for rectangular field were very closed to that of measurement in all selected electron beam energy.

The detector size effect due to the spatial response of defectors is one critical source of inaccuracy in clinical dosimetry and has been a subject of numerous studies. Conventionally, the detector response kernel contains all of the influence that the detector size has on the measured beam profile. Various analytic models for this kernel have been proposed and studied in theoretical and experimental works. Here, we use a method to determine detector response kernel simply by using Monte Carlo simulation and convolution theory. Based on this numerical method and DOSIMETER, an EGS4 Monte Carlo code, the detector response for a Farmer type ion chamber embedded in water phantom is obtained. There exists characteristic difference in the simulated chamber readings between one with carbon graphite wall and the other with Acrylic wail. Using the obtained response and the convolution theory, we are planning to derive the detector response kernel numerically and remove detector size effect from measurements for 6MV, 10${\times}$l0cm2 and 0.5${\times}$10 cm2 photon beam.

This paper describes an experimental study of steel beam-column connections with or without expanded beam flanges with different geometries. The objectives of this study are to elucidate the cyclic behavior of these connections, identify the location of the plastic hinge zone, and provide useful test data for future numerical simulations. Five connection specimens are designed and tested under cyclic load. The test setup consists of a beam and a column connected together by a connection with or without expanded beam flanges. A constant axial force is applied to the column and a time varying point load is applied to the free end of the beam, inducing shear and moment in the connection. Because the only effect to be studied in the present work is the expanded beam flange, the sizes of the beam and column as well as the magnitude of the axial force in the column are kept constant. However, the length, width and shape of the expanded beam flanges are varied. The responses of these connections in terms of their hysteretic behavior, failure modes, stiffness degradation and strain variations are experimentally obtained and discussed. The test results show that while the influence of the expanded beam flanges on hysteretic behavior, stiffness degradation and energy dissipation capacity of the connection is relatively minor, the size of the expanded beam flanges does affect the location of the plastic hinge zone and strain variations in these beam-column joints. Furthermore, in terms of ductility, moment and rotational capacities, all five connections behave well. No weld fracture or premature failure occurs before the formation of a plastic hinge in the beam.
Generally beam design depends on the yielding and maximum strength of each member varying with its section shape. Web plate of H-shape beam has not been substituted with glass plate, because it is known that its strength and heat properties are different and it is limited to substitute the existing steel web with glass element. Ceiling height of each room should be decreased with more than 60-80cm due to the beam. Differently from this condition, glass web beam has a good point to see through it and sunshine can be penetrate into the other size especially when it is installed as of outside wall. And also, it can be safer due to controlling room inside easier, if the strength is applicate. This study is to show some applicability after finding out the properties using the test. The test members with a size of $1,600{\times}200{\times}300{\times}9mm$ being SS41 rolled steel having THK 9mm flange while having 8,10mm and reinforced glass 12mm thickness is bonded with epoxy bond under the condition of temperature $28^{\circ}C$, humidity 50%, bonding power 24Mpa. It is show reinforced glass has 5 times of fracture stress more than the common glass but $50{\sim}150%$ difference between these 2 kinds of glass was shown. Reinforce glass did not support the original upper flange after fracture but the common glass did the upper flange after unloading. Generally reinforced glass is stronger than the common one but the common glass having a part of crack on it, compared with reinforced glass having the overall fracture could be more useful in case of needing ductility.
