Composite beam, which combined the material characteristic of the steel and concrete, has been widely used in the construction of various building and bridge system. For the effective application of the composite beam, the composite action on the composite interface between the concrete element and the steel element should be achieved by shear connectors. The behavioral characteristics of composite beam are related with the degree of interaction and the degree of shear connection according to the shear strength and shear stiffness of the stud shear connectors. These two concepts are also affected by the number of installed shear connector and the strength of composite materials. In this study, experimental and analytical evaluations of the degree of shear connection affected by stud diameter were conducted, and the relationship between structural behavior and the degree of shear connection was verified. The very small difference among the ultimate loads of the specimens depending on the change of the degree of connection was possibly because of the dependence of the ultimate load on the characteristic of plastic moment of the composite beam.
We calculated the energy distribution and the percentage depth-dose at 10 cm in a $10{\times}10\;cm^2$ with a photon beam at SSD of 100 cm by using a Monte Carlo Simulation. PDD is used as a beam-quality specifier for radiotherapy beams. It is better than the commonly used values of TPR or nominal accelerating potential. The presence of electron contamination affects the measurement of PDD, but can be removed by the use of a 0.1 cm lead filter. It reduces surface dose from contaminant electrons from the accelerator by more than 90% for radiotherapy beams. The filter performs best when it is placed immediately below the head. An electron-contamination correction factor is introduced to correct for electron contamination from the filter and air. It converts PDD which includes the electron contamination with the filter in place into PDD for the photons in the filtered beam. The correction factor can be used to determine stopping-power ratio. Calculations show that the values of water-to-air slopping power ratio in the unfiltered beam are related to PDD.

A large area negative metal ion beam source is developed. Kinetic ion beam of the incident metal ions yields a whole nucleation and growth phenomena compared to the conventional thin film deposition processes. At the initial deposition step one can engineer the surface and interface by tuning the energy of the incident metal ion beams. Smoothness and shallow implantation can be tailored according to the desired application process. Surface chemistry and nucleation process is also controlled by the energy of the direct metal ion beams. Each individual metal ion beams with specific energy undergoes super-thermodynamic reactions and nucleation. degree of formation of tetrahedral Sp3 carbon films and beta-carbon nitride directly depends on the energy of the ion beams. Grain size and formation of polycrystalline Si, at temperatures lower than 500deg. C is obtained and controlled by the energy of the incident Si-ion beams. The large area metal ion source combines the advantages of those magnetron sputter and SKIONs prior cesium activated metal ion source. The ion beam source produces uniform amorphous diamond films over 6 diameter. The films are now investigated for applications such as field emission display emitter materials, protective coatings for computer hard disk and head, and other protective optical coatings. The performance of the ion beam source and recent applications will be presented.
This study is done to evaluate how existence of shear-span ratio and shear reinforcing bar effects on shear performance from through shear experiment using PVA fiber reinforced ferroconcrete building. Ratio of shear-span was set 1, 1.7, and arrangement of shear reinforcing bar was set with KCI2012 regulation. In result, subject with less shear-span ratio, and shear reinforcing bar with arrangement of bar shows high stiffness. Subjects with high shear-span ratio show large difference depending on existence of shear reinforcing bar. Therefore, theoretical shear strength followed by CEB code underestimates experimental shear strength by 43.9%. Shear strength of the deep beam with headed bars is more affected by the bearing strength of head than the bond strength of bar.
The eye lens is known to be radiosensitive organ and catarat can be induced by relatively low dose of radiation. In the treatment of head and neck tumors, shielding blocks are frequently used to minimize dose on sensitive organs. The shielding block, which is made of high atomic number materials (cerrobend), produce significant dose perturbations in megavoltage photon beams. The effects of these perturbations of eye shielding blocks are measured with film and ion chambers for the treatment of head and neck malignancies. Optimum parameters for the treatment are suggested.

A total of 32 pullout tests were performed for the multiple headed bars relatively deeply embedded in reinforced concrete column-like members. The objective was to determine the minimum embedment depth that was necessary to safely design exterior beam-column joints using headed bars. The variables for the experiment were embedment depth of headed bar, center-to-center distance between adjacent heads, and amount of supplementary reinforcement. Regular strength concrete and grade SD420 reinforcing steel were used. The results of the test the indicated that a headed bar embedment depth of $10d_b$ was not sufficient to have relatively closely installed headed bars develop the pullout strength corresponding to the yield strength. All the experimental variables, influenced the pullout strength. The pullout strength increased with increasing embedment depth and head-to-head distance. It also increased with increasing amount of supplementary reinforcement. For a group of closely-spaced headed bars installed in a beam-column joint, it is recommended to use column ties at least 0.6% by volume, 1% or greater amount of column main bars, and an embedment depth of $13d_b$ or greater simultaneously, to guarantee the pullout strength of individual headed bars over 125% of $f_y$ and ductile load-displacement behavior.
Purpose: The present study was designed to investigate the association of ponticulus posticus (PP) and elongated styloid process (ESP) with headaches. Methods: Analysis of head and neck cone beam computed tomography samples from the archives of the Department of Oral Radiology was done for the presence of partial or complete PP and ESP length, type, thickness, mediolateral angulation, anterioposterior angulation (horizontal & vertical), lateral or medial curvature. This was followed by personal & telephonic questionnaires to the subjects for the evaluation of the presence of headaches & other associated symptoms. Results: Among 134 subjects, 62 subjects (46.3%) presented with headache and 72 subjects (53.7%) did not have any headache. On further analysing the total 62 subjects with headache, it was found out that 31 subjects (50.0%) of them had ESP and PP both, 16 subjects (25.8%) had only ESP, and 15 subjects (24.2%) had only PP. A strong association was present between headache and presence of PP & ESP individually and together. Conclusions: All health care professionals dealing with the head and neck pain disorders should also consider the presence of ESP & PP during diagnosis and treatment.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of virtual 3-dimensional (3D) cephalograms constructed using the principle of biplanar radiography by comparing them with cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. Materials and Methods: Thirty orthodontic patients were enrolled in this study. Frontal and lateral cephalograms were obtained with the use of a head posture aligner and reconstructed into 3D cephalograms using biplanar radiography software. Thirty-four measurements representing the height, width, depth, and oblique distance were computed in 3 dimensions, and compared with the measurements from the 3D images obtained by CBCT, using the paired t-test and Bland-Altman analysis. Results: Comparison of height, width, depth, and oblique measurements showed no statistically significant differences between the measurements obtained from 3D cephalograms and those from CBCT images (P>0.05). Bland-Altman plots also showed high agreement between the 3D cephalograms and CBCT images. Conclusion: Accurate 3D cephalograms can be constructed using the principle of biplanar radiography if frontal and lateral cephalograms can be obtained with a head posture aligner. Three-dimensional cephalograms generated using biplanar radiography can replace CBCT images taken for diagnostic purposes.
Objective: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of Head Posture Aligner (HPA) during cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan in generation of frontal cephalograms using 3D CBCT images. Methods: CBCT scans and frontal cephalograms were made in 30 adult individuals. While a couple of CBCT scan was made for one subject, one was made with conventional method, without use of HPA, the other was acquired with the use of HPA. After creation of virtual frontal cephalogram from each 3D CBCT image, it was traced and compared with the tracing of real frontal cephalogram. Results: In the comparison of the measurements, the virtual cephalograms with the use of HPA did not show statistically significant differences with the real cephalograms whereas the virtual cephalograms without the use of HPA presented significant differences with real cephalograms in many measurements. In the correlation analysis with the measurements of the real cephalograms, the virtual cephalograms with the use of HPA showed higher correlations in all measurements than the virtual cephalograms without the use of HPA. Conclusions: Measurements from CBCT-generated cephalograms become similar to those from real cephalograms with the use of HPA during CBCT scan. Thus, the use of HPA is suggested during the CBCT scan in order to construct accurate virtual frontal cephalograms using 3D CBCT images.
