We investigated the distribution and geomorphic development of alluvial fans at Cheongdo- and Hweyang-eup(town) in the Cheongdo Basin, Gyeongsangbuk-do(Province) of Korea. The alluvial fans of study area are formed confluently to the E-W direction at the northern slope of the Mt. Namsan(840 m). They are classified into Higher surface, Middle surface, and Lower surface according to a relative height to a river bed. And the older alluvial fan is, the deeper gravel in the stream deposits is weathered. The magnitude of each surface composing of confluent fans is related to that of the drainage basin. So called fan-basin system of magnitude on the study area is on the positive(+) relation in the study area. The large fans over 1km in radius are found on the basin of andesite rock which is resistant to the weathering and erosion. Moreover there is no tectonic movement in the basin. It means the most important element influenced on the fan formation is not tectonic movement, but the Quaternary climatic change, which is the periglacial climate alternating glacial and interglacial stages during the Quaternary. Therefore alluvial fans would distribute in Korea overall influenced by the Quaternary climatic change.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of the transverse troughs on hydrodynamic behavior within the a certain full-scale sedimentation basin (flow rate/one basin; $10,000m^3/d$) using CFD simulation and ADV technique. In order to verify the CFD simulation, we measured the factual velocity at 36 points in the full-scale sedimentation basin, whose outlet structure is inadequate, with ADV technique. Both the CFD simulation and the ADV measurement results were in good accordance with each other. From the CFD simulation results of the existing basin, it was investigated that extreme upward flow occurs in the near of two transverse troughs. It was suspected that since the transverse troughs converted the open channel flow into the local closed pipe flow, the increased pressure in this local closed pipe flow region made the extreme upward flow. For solving this problems, it was suggested to modify transverse-typed launder into finger-typed launder and to install a longitudinal baffle in the center in this study. The CFD simulation results of all suggested amendments told us that the extreme upward flow, had occurred especially in the beneath of transverse troughs, was much less in the case of finger typed launder basin than that in the existing basin. Also, it was predicted that installing a longitudinal baffle made the fully developed flow which is more effective for sedimentation.
Field measured sediment yield from an experimental urbanized basin was compared with the predicted sediment yields with RUSLE (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation), and MUSLE (Modified Universal Soil Loss Equation). The experimental basin is 3.1km2 in area and fifty six percent of the total area had been urbanized. The hydrological data have been measured with T/M at the outlet of the experimental basin. Runoff from the basin and rainfall depth of the basin were measured every minute. Bed load and suspended load were also measured for a given flow rate. Runoff rating curves and sediment rating curve were developed for the last three years. RUSLE showed scattered prediction results but the average of the prediction values was close to the measured one. Meanwhile, MUSLE showed linear correlation between the measured sediment yield and predicted one with high correlation coefficient. But MUSLE predicts high values than the real one. Therefore, adjustment is necessary to apply MUSLE in estimation of sediment yield from the experimental urbanized basin.

In this paper Gumho drainage basin is divided into six geomorphic units (Bohyeon, Palgong, Biseul mountainous areas and Yeongcheon, Gyeongsan, Daegu basin), and physical geographical background and distributional characteristics of geotourism resources in each geomorphic unit are examined. Most(32 sites, 78%) of geotourism resources in Gumho basin reflect geomorphological environment, rest(7 sites, 17%) of them reflect geological environment. There are three geomorphological resources in Bohyeon mountainous areas, eight geomorphological resources in Palgong mountainous areas, and five geomorphological resources and one cultural resource in Biseul mountainous areas. There are two geomorphological resources, one geological resource, one biological resource, and two cultural resources in Yeongcheon basin. Among them one biological resource and and one cultural resource reflect local geomorphological environment. In Gyeongsan basin are there one geomorphological resource, three geological resources, and one biological resource, but one biological resource reflects local geomorphological environment. There are eight geomorphological resources, two geological resources, and three biological resources in Daegu basin. But two biological resources among them reflect local geomorphological environment.
In the daily multi-reservoir operating problem, monthly storage targets can be used as principal operational guidelines. In this study, we tested the use of a simple back-propagation Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model to derive monthly storage guideline for daily Coordinated Multi-reservoir Operating Model (CoMOM) of the Han-River basin. This approach is based on the belief that the optimum solution of the daily CoMOM has a good performance, and the ANN model trained with the results of daily CoMOM would produce effective monthly operating guidelines. The optimum results of daily CoMOM is used as the training set for the back-propagation ANN model, which is designed to derive monthly reservoir storage targets in the basin. For the input patterns of the ANN model, we adopted the ratios of initial storage of each dam to the storage of Paldang dam, ratios of monthly expected inflow of each dam to the total inflow of the whole basin, ratios of monthly demand at each dam to the total demand of the whole basin, ratio of total storage of the whole basin to the active storage of Paldang dam, and the ratio of total inflow of the whole basin to the active storage of the whole basin. And the output pattern of ANN model is the optimal final storages that are generated by the daily CoMOM. Then, we analyzed the performance of the ANN model by using a real-time simulation procedure for the multi-reservoir system of the Han-river basin, assuming that historical inflows from October 1st, 2004 to June 30th, 2007 (except July, August, September) were occurred. The simulation results showed that by utilizing the monthly storage target provided by the ANN model, we could reduce the spillages, increase hydropower generation, and secure more water at the end of the planning horizon compared to the historical records.

The linkage between climate change and water security, i.e., the response of water resource to the future climate change, have been of great concern to both scientific community and policy makers. In this study, the impact of future climate on water resources in Yellow River Basin in North of China has been investigated using the Coupled Land surface and Hydrology Model System (CLHMS) and IPCC AR5 projected future climate change in the basin. Firstly, the performances of 14 IPCC AR5 models in reproducing the observed precipitation and temperature in China, especially in North of China, have been evaluated, and it's suggested most climate models do show systematic bias compared with the observation, however, CNRM-CM5、HadCM5 and IPSL-CM5 model are generally the best models among those 14 models. Taking the daily projection results from the CNRM-CM5, along with the bias-correction technique, the response of water resources in Yellow river basin to the future climate change in different emission scenarios have been investigated. All the simulation results indicate a reduction in water resources. The current situation of water shortage since 1980s will keep continue, the water resources reduction varies between 28 and 23% for RCP 2.6 and 4.5 scenarios. RCP 8.5 scenario simulation shows a decrease of water resources in the early and mid 21th century, but after 2080, with the increase of rainfall, the extreme flood events tends to increase.
This study presents a methodology to estimate two distinct fractal dimensions of natural river basin by using fractal tree concept. To this end, an analysis is performed on fractal features of a complete drainage network which consists of all possible drainage paths within a river basin based on the growth process of fractal tree. The growth process of fractal tree would occur only within the limited drainage paths possessing stream flow features in a river basin. In the case of small river basin, the bifurcation process of network is more sensitive to the growth step of fractal tree than the meandering process of stream segment, so that various bifurcation structures could be generated in a single network. Therefore, fractal dimension of network structure for small river basin should be estimated in the form of a range not a single figure. Furthermore, the network structures with fractal tree from this study might be more useful information than stream networks from a topographic or digital map for analysis of drainage structure on small river basin.

This study analyzed the topographical characteristics by extracting property factors of stream (stream order, number of stream, stream length, mean stream length) and property factors of basin (basin area, basin length, total stream length, total number of stream, basin mean width, form factor, maximum stream order, basin density, stream frequency, relief ratio, mean elevation, mean, slope, maximum elevation) from DEM (digital elevation model) and stream network generated by 1:5,000 NGIS (national geographical information system) data for the Bukhan-river basin. In addition, topographical factors for upper, mid stream and lower stream were analyzed and the mutuality of the factors by linear and nonlinear regression curve was identified.
We prove that the bounded attracting basin of the origin for a complex homogeneous polynomial of degree larger than two is Carath$\'{e}$odory finitely compact.

Major and trace elements were analyzed in three core sediments to investigate geochemical characteristics of East Sea sediments and provenance changes during late Quaternary in Ulleung Basin. Comparing with Yellow and South Sea sediments, contents of major elements were generally similar while contents of trace elements were significantly different. Furthermore, within this basin, there were some variabilities in trace element compositions. In the western slope sediments (WS), Mo was enriched over 6 times as much as other sites. On the other hand, Zr, Nb, Hf and Ta were enriched in basin sediments (Basin), and Ca and Cs were enriched in southern slope sediments (SS). After excluding elements derived from biogenic, authigenic and diagenetic origins, the lithogenic elements (K, Ti, Cs, Zr, Nb, Hf and Ta) could be classified into three groups from the comparison of element/Al ratios among cores. The first group consisted of elements (K and Ti) that showed the nearly similar element/Al ratios among three cores. The second group contained Cs which showed significant difference between two slope sediments. The third group elements (Zr, Nb, Hf and Ta) showed highly enriched in basin relative to both slope areas. The depth profiles of metal/Al ratios in basin sediments provided the following interpretation for the compositions of sediment and their variation. From 10,000 yr B.P. to 7,000 yr B.P. two lithogenic components (volcanic ashes and western slope sediments) were mixed and deposited in the basin. After 7,000 yr B.P., however, southern slope sediments were mixed with volcanic ashes and deposited in basin area. This event of source change is nearly close to inflow period of the Tsushima Warm Current to Ulleung Basin. Thus, it might be suggested that element geochemistry in Ulleung basin sediment indicate the change of current system in the study area.
