Purpose: The purpose of this study is to supply the basic materials for the development of objective tools to measure 'Hwa-byung' and for the development of the theories and statements associated with 'Hwa-byung' by making clear the meaning and characteristics of 'Hwa-byung' and by analyzing the concept of 'Hwa-byung'. Method: The concept analysis of Hwa-byung was proceeded according to the concept analysis process of Walker and Avant(1995). Result: The conceptual characteristics of Hwa-byung resulted from the research are like these : (1) Injustice (2) Anger (3) Rumination (4) Anxiety. Therefore, we can describe Hwa-byung as the feeling repeatedly accumulated through the heavy mental pain, injustice, and anger and it is appeared with the physical and behavioral symptoms. Conclusion: Through this concept analysis, we propose as followings ; First, there's need of the objective tools which make it possible to assess Hwa-byung through the theory development and the statement associated with Hwa-byung. Second, there's need of interdisciplinary approach in the development of nursing intervention to coordinate the characteristics of Hwa-byung by understanding the total nature of Hwa-byung and finding the variables associated with Hwa-byung.
Cardiac cathererization has become a routine diagnostic procedure indicated for evaluation of a wide varity of cardiac conditions. Patients are admitted to the coronary care unit after cardiac catheterization. These conscious patients report feeling uncomfortable in the CCU, but no studies have been done on the effects of bed rest, sand bags on the femoral puncture site and restricted mobility for 4 to 12 hours or longer postprocedure. The main objective of this thesis is to provide basic data to nursing on interventions which de-crease the uncomfortableness experienced by patients in the CCU following cardiac catheterization. In this phenomenological study, the various discomforts felt by the patients were collected and classified. The study subjects were a convenience sample of 29 patients who were admitted to the CCU of a general hospital in Inchon following cardiac catheterization. They were conscious, so they were able to communicate without difficulty. The data were collected over an U days period from July 21, to October 14, 1994. The subjects were interviewed using unstructured open questions and the interviews were tape recorded with the patient's permission The data were analyzed using the Van Kaams phenomenological method. Reliability and validity were exammed by two professor of nursing science, one head nurse, one staff nurse and one cardiologist. The results of the study are summarized as follows ; 1. The 129 descriptive statements by the postcardiac catheterization patients of discomfort were organized into 19 themes. 2. The 19 themes were divided into 3 categories ; physical, psychological, and environmental aspects. 3. The problems concerning the physical aspect were the discomfort of restriction of movement, dysuria, medical devices, pain in the puncture site, symptom is related to the procedure of cardiac catheterization, headache and dizziness, leg painand tingling sensation, and chest pain. The problems concerning the psychological aspect were regret resulting from dependency, economic burden, dissatisfaction with medical personnel, dissatisfaction with medical service system, anxiety about the result of the procedure, concern about the prognosis, loneliness, and concern over treatment procedure. The problems concerning the environmental aspect were influence from neighboring patients, noise, and maladaptation to environmental change. The necessity for holistic care which satisfies physical, psychological, and environmental need must be emphasized in order to solve these discomforts.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for the development of educational material in Korean for patient3 being discharge after open heart surgery. The subjects were 45 adult patients who were seen in the out -patient department of the thoracic surgery unit of P University hospital between February 1993 and May 1993. The data were collected through a chart review and interview. Nursing needs, and the patients status related to diet, activity, medication, physical and psychoemotional limitations were analyzed. The results are summarized as follows ; 1. Mitral valve replacement was the most frequent type of surgery(91.2%). In most cases, a mechanical valve was used (91.0%) . The duration of admission after the operation was two to four weeks for most of the patients(48.9%). The follow-up period was between one and two years for 28.9% of the patients and below 6 years for all of the patients. 2. Many Patients didn’t know the importance of a low salt diet(57.8%), and did not get any education on low salt diet (66.7%). Gimchi was included as one of the most commonly ingested foods (77.8%). All of the patients indicated nursing needs related to education about low salt diets and further they indicated a major interest in foods that are harmful (57.7%) or foods that are safe(51.1% ). 3. Most patients did not recognize the need for limitations on physical activity(84.4%). Further, 31.1% of them could not return to work at the time of the study. All patients had nursing needs related to physical activity, with the most frequent questions being about the permissble degree of activity and special cautions dictated by their illness (60.0%). 4. Many patients were ignorant of the necessity of medication(55.6%) . Forty percent of the patients were taking additional drugs, usually herb drugs. The time and duration of medication and the side effects of drugs were common concerns (57.7%) related to nursing. needs about medication and were mentioned by all of the patients. 5. All of the patients complained of physical discomfort including the following : memory disturbance(62.2%), weight gain(60.0%), chest tightness (55.6%), hair loss(51.1%), sleep disturbance(46.7%) and other symptoms in that order of frequency. Nursing needs related to physical condition were a concern for all of them. The viability and function of the replaced valve(53.3%) and weight gain(60.0%) were mal or concerns. 6. Looking at their psychoemotional condition it was found that 36 patients(80.0%) were emotionally unstable. The causes were physical discomfort(17 patients), insufficient knowlege of open heart surgery(6 patients), fear of death(6 patients), familial over protection(2 patients ) and lack of support (5 patients).
This study was designed to investigate the problems facecl by adolescents who have nephrotic syndrome and who have struggled with their disease over a long time. Information obtained from this study can be utilized as basic data in planning nursing care for these adolescents. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to use meta-analysis to evaluate the variables related to depression in patients who have had a stroke. Methods: The materials of this study were based on 16 variables obtained from 26 recent studies over a span of 10 years which were selected from doctoral dissertations, master's thesis and published articles. Results: Related variables were categorized into sixteen variables and six variable groups which included general characteristics of the patients, disease characteristics, psychological state, physical function, basic needs, and social variables. Also, the classification of six defensive and three risk variables group was based on the negative or positive effect of depression. The quality of life (ES=-.79) and acceptance of disability (ES=-.64) were highly correlated with depression in terms of defensive variables. For risk variables, anxiety (ES=.66), stress (ES=.53) showed high correlation effect size among the risk variables. Conclusion: These findings showed that defensive and risk variables were related to depression among stroke patients. Psychological interventions and improvement in physical functions should be effective in decreasing depression among stroke patients.
Purpose: The purpose this research was to provide with basic data in the control of the fatiguer found in the patients with fibromyalgia by analysing the factors that predict that. Method: At three university medical center, appointed 245 out-patients diagnosed of fibromyalgia according to the conditions by American College of Rheumatology (1990). The research instruments used in this study were graphic rating scale(Anxiety, sleep disturbance, pain, joint stiffness and depression), physical activity, the number of tender points, life satisfaction and Self-efficacy scale. In data analysis, SPSS 12.0 program was utilized and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression. Result: The factors that predict the fatigue of patients with fibromyalgia were sleep disturbance, life satisfaction, pain, joint stiffness, illness duration, and anxiety which explained 50.1% of the fatigue. Conclusion: It has been confirmed that the regression equation model of this research may serve as a fatigue prediction factors in patients with fibromyalgia.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the health status(present illness, ADL and IADL), health perception, and health promotion behaviors of low-income elderly who are receiving the visiting nurse service in the community. Method: The sample of the study was 735 elderly over 65years old with basic livelihood security, who were conveniently selected from 245 public health centers nation-wide. The average scores of ADL and IADL were 15.903.39and 9.772.97 respectively, which indicates a relatively independent everyday life. However, $64.2\%$ of the subjects perceived their health status as 'not healthy'. In terms of health promotion behaviors, $77.8\%$ of the subjects had ceased smoking, $83.9\%$ stopped drinking, $56.4\%$ had a regular diet, $45.8\%$ received regular physical check-ups during the past two years, and $66\%$ received flu shots. Approximately $50\%$ of the subjects were practicing 3-4 health promotion behaviors. Significant factors associated with health promotion behaviors were ADL, IADL and self-efficacy. Conclusion: Health promotion programs which focus on regular diet, exercise, and regular physical check-ups should be developed to improve independence of everyday life and quality of life among low-income elderly.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between physical activity and energy drinks consumption in Korean Adolescents. Methods: This study was a secondary data analysis using statistics from the 2017(13th) Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey. The variables used in the study were physical activity, energy drinks consumption and socio-demographic characteristics such as gender, academic achievement, household economic status and weekly allowance. The data were analyzed by $x^2$ test and multinominal logistic regression and the results were presented in percentage. Results: As the number of days engaging in moderate and vigorous physical activities increased, the response that they consume energy drinks 'more than 5 times a week' also increased. The subjects who participated in a 'moderate' or 'high' level of moderate physical activity consumed 1.4 times more energy drinks than those who do not participate in physical activity. And the subjects who engaged in a 'low' or 'moderate' level of vigorous physical activity consumed about 1.3 times more energy drinks than those who don't work out. Conclusion: As the level and intensity of physical activity increased, the number and frequency of energy drinks consumption increased. The results of this study can be used as basic data for intervention programs to reduce energy drinks consumption and promote proper physical activity.
