  • Recently, many companies recognize the individual human resource as a core asset of the corporate value creation and devote a lot of effort to develop and manage competency-based human resource in order to strengthen the corporate competitiveness. As the integrated construction company taking the major portion in Korean construction industry, its construction engineers perform the construction supervision task with various related parties at each stage of the life cycle of the construction project. Therefore, the competency of a construction engineer is an important factor which have a direct impact on the success of the construction project. However, the current capability evaluation scheme of the domestic construction engineers is mainly oriented on the qualification factors such as the certificates or the seniority and this is quite different from evaluating the actual ability for construction management tasks. In this point of view, this study proposes the appropriate level of proficiency in cost management by analyzing the work process and its detailed items of the cost management that is the one of the basic management items of the construction industry. Based on this, this study analyzes the current competency level of the construction engineer by comparing with the required competency of each job position and also performs the engineer's work competency analysis of each work step.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out what the constituents of career development competency are for the students who are majoring in engineering. In this study, the career development competency means that the students in an engineering college should initiatively choose, prepare and adapt themselves for their future career in their lifetime. This study examined all the career-related references that are determined to be linked with the competencies of career development. Also, other references inside and outside of the country that are related to the career key competencies and engineering basic competencies were investigated in this study. Especially, the career development competency in this study was approached with two points of views; the process of career development for students and the ability to maintain and develop the future career in an engineering field. Ultimately, this study derived the conclusion that there are 8 categories and 42 subordinate constituents in the career development competency for the students in an engineering college.

  • In this study, we developed career guidance guidelines in order to support professors in guiding the career development of female students in engineering programs. Focus Group Interview (FGI) was conducted by a group of experts composed of 7 professors at the department of computer engineering in order to identify the current status and draw guidelines. It was found that the female students of engineering college were required to improve their efficacy, strengthen their major competency, improve their practical job competency, cultivate basic competency, and provide guidance on specific employment information. Then, we suggested the five elements of each grade and checklists focusing on five elements and proposed the forms so that they can be easily utilized in actual career guidance. At two expert meetings, the validity of the guidelines and the forms were verified and revised. Finally, we suggested a way to streamline the application of these guidelines.

  • This study obtained basic data for developing human resources with creativity convergence competency by surveying and analyzing the level of creativity convergence competency of university students. The study was conducted from October 1, 2019 to November 10, 2019 on university students attending the departments of computer science, pharmaceutical engineering, physical therapy and dental hygiene. The data from 296 students was finally used for this study, and IBM SPSS/Win statics 23.0 programs were used to analyze the data. Students who graduated from Seoul/Gyeonggi High School or those students with high undergraduate satisfaction were found to have high creativity convergence ability, and these results were statistically significant. Further, the group of students who had experience with Campus/Suburban competition, Global Competency training/ International exchange programs or the Capstone Design/Team Based Project showed high creativity convergence competency, and these results were statistically significant. Thus, this study identified the necessity of developing and operating various extra-curricular programs at education institutes in order to enhance students' creativity convergence capability.

  • This paper is a study on the perception of current competency and expected competency of engineering freshmen by extracting core competencies acquired from university education. It also aims to suggest proper way for engineering university education. This study extracts competencies in the following five areas as core competencies: 'knowledge on major area', 'cultural ability', 'foreign language ability', 'basic learning ability', 'intercommunication ability'. To achieve this purpose, this study surveyed 'C' university engineering department freshmen (584 students) with questionnaires about their perception of core competencies. The results are as follows. First, engineering freshmen perceived current competencies were weak in every area, especially their capacities in 'foreign language ability' area were perceived to be weakest. Their demand for education is the highest in 'foreign language ability' area, and the second higher in 'knowledge on major area'. Secondly, there exists meaningful difference between perception of current competency and expected competency depending on the gender, high school department (science/liberal arts), high school location, types of college admissions, and types of mathematics in NAST. According to these results, this study suggests enhancement of foreign language (English) education in engineering department, design and implementation of various educational program to overcome individual difference, promoting importance of competencies in the 'cultural abilty' and 'intercommunication abilty', necessity of continuous adjustment and complementation for engineering educational program through accumulation of feedback processes, activation of career education through engineering education and special programs.

  • This study analyzes the effect of CAE class using PBL on professional knowledge acquisition and competency enhancement. The PBL class was applied to 3rd grade students of Dong-Eui University's Department of Automotive Engineering, and a one-year course, and a survey was conducted on satisfaction and effectiveness in the first and second semesters, respectively. With a significant difference in the survey for each semester, satisfaction in the second semester was found to be high, and satisfaction with non-face-to-face information exchange and team activities was high. In addition, it was evaluated to have a positive effect on the improvement of individual competency such as knowledge of subject, command-led learning, problem-solving ability, and communication. This study has educational implications in that it can be used as a quantitative indicator for class improvement and can be used as basic data for course operation.

  • This study investigates the relationship between human resource capacity and financial and non-financial performance. We examine the previous studies on human resources and corporate performance, the performance factors of SMEs, financial performance and non-financial performance. Based on this research, model and research hypothesis were set up. According to study result, CEO's competency influences on both of non-financial and financial performances. The period of CEO's experience in one industry positively effects on filing number of intellectual properties(IPs). Firm's basic competency positively effects on non-financial performance but has meaningless impact on financial performance. The extent of education and experience of executive managers positively influences on filling number of IPs. The extent of education and experience of R&D personnel also positively effects on technology innovation output. Executive managers specialties may influence on long term performance but are identified that those have no influence on financial performance.
