A new kind of organic-inorganic hybrid polymer, poly(tetraphenyl)silole siloxane (PSS), was invented and synthesized for realization of its unique charge trap properties. The organic portions consisting of (tetraphenyl)silole rings are responsible for electron trapping owing to their low-lying LUMO, while the Si-O-Si inorganic linkages of high HOMO-LUMO gap provide the intrachain energy barrier for controlling electron transport. Such an alternation of the organic and inorganic moieties in a polymer may give an interesting quantum well electronic structure in a molecule. The PSS thin film was fabricated by spin-coating of the PSS solution in THF organic solvent onto Si-wafer substrates and curing. The electron trapping of the PSS thin films was confirmed by the capacitance-voltage (C-V) measurements performed within the metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) device structure. And the quantum well electronic structure of the PSS thin film, which was thought to be the origin of the electron trapping, was investigated by a combination of theoretical and experimental methods: density functional theory (DFT) calculations in Gaussian03 package and spectroscopic techniques such as near edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (NEXAFS) and photoemission spectroscopy (PES). The electron trapping properties of the PSS thin film of quantum well structure are closely related to intra- and inter-polymer chain electron transports. Among them, the intra-chain electron transport was theoretically studied using the Atomistix Toolkit (ATK) software based on the non-equilibrium Green's function (NEGF) method in conjunction with the DFT.
Various commercial shampoos were frequently prescribed for dermatologic therapy in small animal practice. Skim hydration affected by the shampoos, however, was not evaluated routinely. In order to evaluate the skin hydration for the exact prescription of shampoos method to measure skin hydration of shampoos are needed. This study was undertaken to evaluate the skin hydration effect of shampoo on canine skin using Corneometer. Five healthy dogs were applied with 7 commercial shampoos: Humilac, Sebocalm, Sebolytics, Etiderm, Benzoyl peroxide, HyLyt and Zn-7 Derm. Skin hydrations were evaluated by measurement of electrical capacitance by Corneometer. A statistically significant increase in skim hydration was found 17(p<0.05) and 77 minutes(p<0.01) after application of Humilac indicating a humidifying effect of this product. A statistically significant decrease in skin hydration was found for the Benzoyl peroxide after 77 minutes(p<0.05). No statistically significant differences between the other shampoos were found. None of the products tested had any negative effect on the skin barrier function. The Corneometer was found useful for detecting skin hydration to shampoos and considered as a simple and useful tool for prescription of various shampoos routine practice.
An oil-in-water solvent evaporation method was used to prepare the cyclosporin A (CyA)-loaded nanoparticles varying in poly (D,L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) polymer (RG 502H, RG 503H) and the amount of additive ethyl myristate (EM) or chitosan (CS). The particles were characterized for drug loading and entrapment efficiency by HPLC, surface morphology by scanning electron microscopy, particle size by dynamic light scattering and surface charge by Zetapotential. The results showed drug loadings ranging from 10.9% to 15.8% with high encapsulation efficiency (82.0-97.8%). SEM and DLS studies showed discrete and spherical particles with smooth surfaces and mean size ranging 257.6-721.7 nm. The additive EM or CS did not change the mean sizes of the nanoparticles, whereas by the coating effect of CS, the Zetapotential values of the CS-added nanoparticles were moved to the more positive direction as the amount of CS was increased. From the pharmacokinetic analysis, the nanoparticles formulations showed the higher bioavailability and MRT than $Neoral^{\circledR}$ While little adding effect of EM or CS was detected in pharmacokinetic profile when RG 503H was used as polymer carrier, more noticeable different pharmacokinetic behaviors could be observed in case of RC 502H. EM incorporation was found to elevate the $K_{el}$, whereas CS coating resulted in the decrease of F and $K_{el}$, which seems to be due to the function of CS as a barrier and a mucoadhesive coating.

This paper is concerned with optimum design of a center-pillar assembly induced by the high-speed side impact of the vehicle. In order to simulate deformation behavior of the center-pillar assembly, simplified finite element model of the center-pillar and a moving deformable barrier are developed based on results of the crash analysis of a full vehicle model. In optimization of the deformation shape of the center-pillar, S-shaped deformation is targeted to guarantee reduction of the injury level of a driver dummy in the crash test. Tailor-welded blanks are adopted in the simplified center-pillar model to control the deformation shape of the center-pillar assembly. The thickness of each part which constitutes the simplified model is selected as a design parameter. The thickness of parts which have significant effect on the deformation mechanism are selected as design parameters with sensitivity analysis based on the design of experiment technique. The objective function is constructed so as to minimize the weight and lead to an S-mode deformation shape. The result shows that the simplified model can be utilized effectively for optimum design of the center-pillar members with remarkable saving of computing time.

The interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA) is a potential stroke treatment candidate. Intranasal delivery is a novel method thereby a therapeutic protein can be penetrated into the brain parenchyma by bypassing the blood-brain barrier. Thus, this study tested whether intranasal IL-1RA can provide neuroprotection and brain penetration in transient cerebral ischemia. In male Sprague-Dawley rats, focal cerebral ischemia was induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) for 1 h. The rats simultaneously received 50 mg/kg human IL-1RA through the intranasal (IN group) or intraperitoneal route (IP group). The other rats were given 0.5 mL/kg normal saline (EC group). Neurobehavioral function, infarct size, and the concentration of the administered human IL-1RA in the brain tissue were assessed. In addition, the cellular distribution of intranasal IL-1RA in the brain and its effect on proinflammatory cytokines expression were evaluated. Intranasal IL-1RA improved neurological deficit and reduced infarct size until 7 days after MCAO (p<0.05). The concentrations of the human IL-1RA in the brain tissue 24 h after MCAO were significantly greater in the IN group than in the IP group (p<0.05). The human IL-1RA was confirmed to be co-localized with neuron and microglia. Furthermore, the IN group had lower expression of $interleukin-1{\beta}$ and tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}$ at 6 h after MCAO than the EC group (p<0.05). These results suggest that intranasal IL-1RA can reach the brain parenchyma more efficiently and provide superior neuroprotection in the transient focal cerebral ischemia.
Hyaluronidases enhance therapeutic drug transport by breaking down the hyaluronan barrier to lymphatic and capillary vessels, facilitating their tissue absorption. Commercially available hyaluronidases are bovine in origin; however, they pose risks such as bovine spongiform encephalopathy. The present study aimed to develop a novel, highly active hyaluronidase and assess its function. Therefore, in order to find the most efficient active hyaluronidase, we produced several shortened hyaluronidases with partial removal of the N- or C-terminal regions. Moreover, we created an enzyme that connected six histidines onto the end of the hyaluronidase C-terminus. This simplified subsequent purification using $Ni^{2+}$ affinity chromatography, making it feasible to industrialize this highly active recombinant hyaluronidase which exhibited catalytic activity equal to that of the commercial enzyme. Therefore, this simple and effective isolation method could increase the availability of recombinant hyaluronidase for research and clinical purposes.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the bio-durability and bone regeneration capacity of the non-cross-linked collagen membrane in rabbit calvarial defect models. Materials and Methods: Four circular defects with 8 mm diameter were made in each of calvarium of 10 male rabbits. The following groups was randomly assigned to each defect - 1) Control, 2) membrane group containing non-cross-linked collagen membrane only (M), 3) bone graft group (B), 4) bone graft with membrane group (B+M). Animals were sacrificed and samples were harvested at 2 weeks (n=5) and 8 weeks (n=5). Histologic sections were prepared and histomorphometric analysis was performed. Result: Histologic results showed well adaptation of the non-cross-linked membrane on each defect and normal healing response at 2 weeks. At 8 weeks, the membranes were partially biodegraded. Histomorphometrically, B and B+M group showed the significantly greater total augmented area (B+M group, 10.44±1.49, P=0.016; B group, 9.13±0.53, P=0.032) and new bone formation (B+M group, 2.89±0.93, P=0.008; B group, 2.85±1.15, P=0.008) compared to control group. Collapsing of the central portion of the membrane, membrane group showed greater value in new bone formation at 8 weeks (1.78±0.68, P=0.032). Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, the non-cross-linked collagen membrane fabricated using the improved decellularized method was shown to be effective for the regeneration of calvarial bone defects. In addition, prolonged barrier function might be provided using this collagen membrane.
Transdermal drug delivery offers an alternative method to the conventional oral and injection delivery method. Its advantages include its ability to deliver drugs directly into systemic circulation. However, there have been restrictions in its application to deliver drugs because of the skin's barrier function. In this study, we try to combine a Sonophoresis and oxygen Pressure method in order to increase the Permeability of the skin. we used water as the compound and by utilizing the skin impedance method. we measured the hydration Permeability of skin Ultrasound was applied using a sonicator(Solcare-U1000. Solco, Korea) operating at a frequency of 1MHz. oxygen Pressure was applied using a compressor(Oxyjet-Pointer, Nora Bode. Germany) operating at a pressure of 2Bar/cm2. Experiment was performed in vivo for 42 People. We divided the subjects into four smaller groups. A different transdermal drug delivery method was applied for each group on the back of their hand. We measured the skin impedance variations on the hand. during a 20-minute time Period. The control group did not show any significant increase or variation of skin impedance to water. In comparison to the control group(Passive diffusion) the hydration Permeability of the ultrasound group and the oxygen Pressure group was approximately 25 and 30 times higher consecutively. Futhermore, the hydration permeability of the combination of ultrasound and oxygen Pressure group was about 70-fold higher in comparison to the control group(passive diffusion) . The results reveal that a combination of ultrasound and oxygen Pressure will significantly enhance transdermal water transport compared when only one of them is used.

The organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) have been studied as large flexible displays, light source and hard wares of internet of things. However, OLEDs show some drawbacks in terms of external environments due to the low work function of the metals and the reactive organic materials. In particular, the operation functions of the OLEDs tend to deteriorate rapidly by exposing the oxygen and moisture. So as to prevent it, domestic and overseas studies underway in various method such as ALD, PVD, CVD. But it has complex process and high cost. Therefore In order to protect devices from the external environments, it is important to develop the passivation thin films of low-cost and simple process which can prevent the devices from the penetration of the oxygen and moistures. In this study, to improve the reliability, passivation thin films were coated onto the green OLEDs by spin coating method and investigated the changes of the optical properties of the prepared devices at various doping concentrations of sodium alginate (SA). The passivation solutions were synthesized by using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) host material with a dopant of SA which were added with the amounts of 10, 20 and 40 wt% into the PVA. As a result, the best barrier properties of the OLEDs were obtained for the samples with 40 wt% SA. Finally, the passivation films can be optimized by using the mixture solution of PVA and SA materials.

Particulate matters (PM) are small particulate pollution that decrease the function of skin barrier, which causes inflammatory skin diseases and extrinsic aging. In this study, we evaluated the effect of preventing the adherence of PMs from several cosmetic products applied to human skin using iron oxide black. The PM floating chamber consists of skin exposure area, PM inlet, floating power device, and an outlet so that PM can be naturally attached to the skin while floating in the chamber. The change in skin brightness according to the floating concentration of alternative fine dust was checked to confirm the optimal floating concentration conditions. The intensity difference (before-after intensity, Δ) before and after adhesion of iron oxide black was proportional to the amount of PM adhered. The anti-adherence effect of iron oxide black on five cosmetic products were evaluated through 20 each subjects by comparing the amount of iron oxide black adhered on the control and treatment. The difference in brightness before and after the iron oxide black attached to the skin was calculated and compared with the control group(p < 0.05). When over 150 mg of iron oxide black was adhered on the skin, the interference of intensity was low and clearly showed the skin adhered pattern. According to the application of the five cosmetics, the intensity difference was significantly lower than the control group. This means that depending on the product, it prevented the attachment of iron oxide black. This study is a safe and useful method to confirm the prevention of PM skin adherence. In conclusion, cosmetics can prevent the adherence of PM on the skin according to the formulation or ingredients characteristics.
