Design of Guaranteed-QoS VPN over Broadband Networks

  • In this paper, we propose methods for designing the Virtual Private Network (VPN) which guarantees a strict Quality of Service (QoS) over A TM networks. The required Quality of Service is a very strict Cell Loss Probability, and it is guaranteed by pro riding equivalent bandwidth which is computed so that the provided bandwidth is sufficient to guarantee that requirement. We consider two network architectures for constructing VPM, the customer pipe scheme and the Hose scheme, and we propose a method to compute the amount of the required bandwidth for the two schemes. Finally, we investigate the implication of the scheme via numerical experiments.

Scalable Quasi-Dynamic-Provisioning-Based Admission Control Mechanism in Differentiated Service Networks

  • The architecture in a differentiated services (DiffServ) network is based on a simple model that applies a per-class service in the core node of the network. However, because the network behavior is simple, the network structure and provisioning is complicated. If a service provider wants dynamic provisioning or a better bandwidth guarantee, the differentiated services network must use a signaling protocol with QoS parameters or an admission control method. Unfortunately, these methods increase the complexity. To overcome the problems with complexity, we investigated scalable dynamic provisioning for admission control in DiffServ networks. We propose a new scalable $qDPM^2$ mechanism based on a centralized bandwidth broker and distributed measurement-based admission control and movable boundary bandwidth management to support heterogeneous QoS requirements in DiffServ networks.

  • 최근 컴퓨팅 기술과 네트워크 기술의 발전으로 초고속 인터넷이 널리 보급되고 있지만 높은 대역폭을 필요로 하는 어플리케이션들의 점유율도 높아지면서 트래픽 혼잡으로 인한 네트워크 장애 발생율도 증가하고 있다. 데이터 전송에 시간적 제한을 갖는 어플리케이션인 VoD 시스템에서 네트워크 장애 발생 빈도가 증가하면 스트리밍의 지터로 인한 QoS의 저하를 초래할 수 있다. 기존의 인터넷 기반 스트리밍에 관한 연구들에서는 네트워크의 변화에 따라 적응적으로 QoS(Quality of Service)를 조절하는 기법들을 제시하여 왔다. 하지만 이는 서비스 제공자 입장에서의 문제 해결이며 네트워크상태에 상관없이 일정한 QoS를 원하는 사용자에게는 적합하지 않다. 본 논문에서는 네트워크 장애에 대비하여 선행하는 미디어 프레임을 탐욕적으로 전송함으로써 일정한 QoS를 보장하고자 하는 GPFT(Greedy Precedent Frame Transmission)기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 GPFT기법은 네트워크의 가용한 대역폭이 높을 경우 정상적인 프레임 재생율보다 빠르게 선행하는 프레임을 전송시켜 미리 클라이언트의 버퍼에 저장하도록 한다. 네트워크 장애 발생시 프레임들이 전달되지 않더라도 클라이언트의 버퍼에 저장된 선행 프레임들을 재생함으로써 사용자가 느끼는QoS를 일정한 수준으로 유지할 수 있도록 한다. 실험을 통하여 비디오 스트림의 특성을 분석하였으며 이를 바탕으로 네트워크 상태에 따라 적응적으로 선행하는 프레임을 빠르게 전송함으로써 기존 방식에 비해 QoS를 일정하게 유지할 수 있음을 보였다.

User Bandwidth Demand Centric Soft-Association Control in Wi-Fi Networks

  • To address the challenge of unprecedented growth in mobile data traffic, ultra-dense network deployment is a cost efficient solution to offload the traffic over some small cells. The overlapped coverage areas of small cells create more than one candidate access points for one mobile user. Signal strength based user association in IEEE 802.11 results in a significantly unbalanced load distribution among access points. However, the effective bandwidth demand of each user actually differs vastly due to their different preferences for mobile applications. In this paper, we formulate a set of non-linear integer programming models for joint user association control and user demand guarantee problem. In this model, we are trying to maximize the system capacity and guarantee the effective bandwidth demand for each user by soft-association control with a software defined network controller. With the fact of NP-hard complexity of non-linear integer programming solver, we propose a Kernighan Lin Algorithm based graph-partitioning method for a large-scale network. Finally, we evaluated the performance of the proposed algorithm for the edge users with heterogeneous bandwidth demands and mobility scenarios. Simulation results show that the proposed adaptive soft-association control can achieve a better performance than the other two and improves the individual quality of user experience with a little price on system throughput.

  • In this paper, we described a method to guarantee a real-time communication in the hetegeneous network for the personal robot. The hetegeneous network is composed of many kinds of network like IEEE1394, Ethernet, CAN, Bluetooth, Wireless Lan and so on. real-time data is transfered via those kinds of network. Those network have different characteristics as speed, bandwidth, Priority. we used IEEE1394, Ethernet, CAN to study in this paper. To guarantee a real-time communication, a worst case response time must be scalable. In this environment to guarantee a real-time communication, we get a worst case response time of each network and a end-to-end worst case response time.

  • 현재 정책은 대역폭 공유에 대하여 평균 처리량을 높이고 로컬 네트워크의 대역폭 사용률을 향상시킨다. 하지만 이러한 정책은 각각 네트워크 흐름에 대역폭을 할당해주는 중앙 관리에서 사용자 특성 기반의 리소스를 할당 할 수 없다. 따라서 사용자 특성기반의 서비스를 보장하지 않기 때문에 불평등한 대역폭 할당이 발생된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 제한된 대역폭 네트워크에서 대역폭을 공유하는 새로운 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법은 이상적인 퍼지 시스템을 사용하여 제한된 장치의 현재 사용량에 따른 대역폭 요청여부를 추전하고 결정한다. 본 논문에서는 OPNET의 비디오 스트리밍 시뮬레이션과 WebRTC의 실시간 비디오 스트리밍으로 구성된 두 가지 실행을 수행한다. 수행한 실험 결과를 통해 제안 된 방법이 네트워크 환경에서 사용자의 요구사항을 기반으로 대역폭 사용을 유연하게 공유 할 수 있다는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다.

A modified RIO queue management scheme that reduces the bandwidth skew problem in Assured Service

  • In offering a statistical end-to-end bandwidth guarantee service, typically called Assured Service, in Differentiated Serviced (Diff-Serv) framework, the biggest issue is its inconsistency. Larger profile TCP flows fail to achieve the guaranteed rate when competing with many smaller profile flows. This phenomenon, which we call "bandwidth skew", stems from the fact that larger profile flows take longer time to recover from the congestion window size backoff after a packet drop. Proposed solutions to this problem, therefore, are focused on modifying the TCP behavior. However, TCP modification is not practicable, mainly due to its large installation base. We look to other mechanisms in the Diff-Serv framework to find more realistic solutions. In particular, we demonstrate that RIO, the de facto standard packet differentiation mechanism used for Assured Service, also contributes to the bandwidth skew. Based on this new finding, we design a modified RIO mechanism called RI+O. RI+O uses OUT queue length in addition to IN and IN+OUT queue length to calculate OUT packet drop probability. We show through extensive simulation that RI+O significantly alleviates the bandwidth skew, expanding the operating regime for Assured Service.d Service.

OFPT: OpenFlow based Parallel Transport in Datacenters

  • Although the dense interconnection datacenter networks (DCNs) (e.g. FatTree) provide multiple paths and high bisection bandwidth for each server pair, the single-path TCP (SPT) and ECMP which are widely used currently neither achieve high bandwidth utilization nor have good load balancing. Due to only one available transmission path, SPT cannot make full use of all available bandwidth, while ECMP's random hashing results in many collisions. In this paper, we present OFPT, an OpenFlow based Parallel Transport framework, which integrates precise routing and scheduling for better load balancing and higher network throughput. By adopting OpenFlow based centralized control mechanism, OFPT computes the optimal path and bandwidth provision for each flow according to the global network view. To guarantee high throughput, OFPT dynamically schedules flows with Seamless Flow Migration Mechanism (SFMM), which can avoid packet loss in flow rerouting. Finally, we test OFPT on Mininet and implement it in a real testbed. The experimental results show that the average network throughput in OFPT is up to 97.5% of bisection bandwidth, which is higher than ECMP by 36%. Besides, OFPT decreases the average flow completion time (AFCT) and achieves better scalability.

  • In the Internet, to guarantee transmission rate and delay and to achieve fair bandwidth allocation, many per-flow scheduling algorithms, such as fair queueing, which have many desirable properties for congestion control, have been proposed and designed. However, algorithms based on per-flow need maintain rate state, buffer management and packet scheduling, so that it cost great deal : implement. Therefore, in this paper, to implement routers cost-effectively, we propose CS-FNE algorithm based on FNE in Core-Stateless network We evaluate CS-FNE comparing with four additional algorithms i.e., CSFQ, FRED, RED and DRR, in several different, configurations and traffic sources. Through simulation results, we show that CS-FNE algorithm can allocate fair bandwidth approximately and is simpler and easier to implement than other per-flow basis queueing mechanisms.

  • In this paper, we propose nonlinear congestion controller for active queue management of differentiated-services networks. Two important issues in differentiated-services architecture are bandwidth guarantee and fair sharing of unsubscribed bandwidth among TCP flows with and without bandwidth reservation. The nonlinear congestion controller was composed fuzzy logic controller and state feedback controller. The nonlinear congestion controller methodology has been applied to a TCP network. We use NS-2 simulation to demonstrate that the proposed control methodology achieves the desired behavior of the network, and possesses important attributes.
