  • A three-dimensional Navier-Stokes code has been developed for analysis of viscous flows through turbomachinery blade rows or other internal passages. The Navier-Stokes equations are written in a cartesian coordinate system, then mapped to a general body-fitted coordinate system. Streamwise viscous terms are neglected and turbulent effects are modeled using the baldwin-Lomax model. Equations are discretized using finite difference method on the stacked C-type grids and solved using LU-ADI decomposition scheme. calculations are made for a two-dimensional cascade in a transonic wind-tunnel to see the infuence of the endwalls. The flow pattern of the three-dimensional flow near the endwall is found to be different from that of the two-dimensional flow due to the existence of the endwalls.

  • This paper describes the analysis of flow field around an automobile. The governing equations of the 3-D unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved by the iterative time marching scheme. The Chimera grid technique has been applied to efficiently simulate the flow around the side-view mirror. To validate the capability of simulating the flow around a ground vehicle, the flows around the Ahmed body with 12.5$^{\circ}$ and 30$^{\circ}$ of slant angles are simulated and good agreements with experiment and other numerical results are achieved. To validate Chimera grid technique, the flow field around a cylinder was also calculated. The computed results are also well agreed with other numerical results and experiment. After code validations, the flow phenomena around the ground vehicle are evidently shown. The flow around the side-view mirror is also well simulated using the Chimera grid technique.

  • A numerical analysis based on two-dimensional, incompressible and compressible Navier-Stokes equations was carried out for double circular arc compressor cascade and the results are compared with available experimental data. The incompressible code based on SIMPLE algorithm adopts pressure weighted method and hybrid scheme for the convective terms. The compressible code with preconditioning method involves a upwind-biased scheme for the convective terms and LU-SGS scheme for temporal integration. Several turbulence models are evaluated by computing the turbulent viscous flows; Baldwin-Lomax, standard $\kappa$ -$\varepsilon$, $\kappa$ -$\varepsilon$ Lam. Bremhorst, standard $\kappa$-$\omega$, $\kappa$ -$\omega$ SST model.

  • An evaluation of one zero-equation and two one-equation eddy viscosity-transport turbulence closure models as implemented CFDS(Characteristic Flux Difference Splitting ) code is presented herein. Comparisons of Baldwin-Lomax model as zero-equation and Baldwin-Barth and Spalart-Allmaras model as one-equation are presented for three test cases, first inlvolving the 3 dimensional supersonic flow at M=1.98 over tangent ogive cylinder, second involving the 2 dimensional transonic flow at M=0.79 over RAE 2822 airfoil, third involving the 3 dimensional transonic flow at M=0.84 over ONERA M6 wing. The numerical results of CFDS code will also examined through direct comparison with experimental data.

  • Ground effect of three-dimensional wing is studied. LU-factored Implicit upwind TVD scheme and Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model are used for this calculation. To investigate ground effect, NACA 4415 wing at M=0.5 calculated. Two different angles of attack and three cases of flight height are calculated. As increasing angle of attack, the ground effect becomes strong. In case of NACA 4415 wing in ground effect, strength of wing tip vortex becomes stronger than that of free flight.

  • This paper presents calculated results of the free-surface flow around a Series 60($C_B=0.6$) model. Three-dimensional Navier-Sotkes equations are solved and Baldwin-Lomax algebraic turbulence model is adopted to simulate the high Reynolds-number flow. To reduce computational efforts, velocity components near the wall are extrapolated with a the solved by using the Implicit Approximate Factorization method[2]. The successive-over-relaxation method is used for solving pressure-Poisson equation when obtaining the pressure field projecting the divergence-free velocity field. To simulate the free-surface flows more precisely, the numerical scheme solving the equation for the kinematic boundary condition is very important. In this paper, there numerical schemes are employed and the results are compared with the available experimental data.

  • The computations of the turbulent flow around the ship models with the free-surface effects were carried out. Incompressible Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations were solved by using an explicit finite-difference method with the nonstaggered grid system. The method employed second-order finite differences for the spatial discretization and a four-stage Runge-Kutta scheme for the temporal integration. For the turbulence closure, a modified Baldwin-Lomax model was exploited. The location of the free surface was determined by solving the equation of the kinematic free-surface condition using the Lax-Wendroff scheme and a free-surface conforming grid was generated at each time step so that one of the grid boundary surfaces always coincides with the free surface. An inviscid approximation of the dynamic free-surface boundary condition was applied as the boundary conditions for the velocity and pressure on the free surface. To validate the computational method developed in the present study, the computations were carried out for beth Wigley and Series 60 $C_B=0.6$ ship model and the computational results showed good agreements with the experimental data.

  • This paper describes the air flow characteristics inside the throttle valve. Tow-dimensional steady incompressible Navier-Strokes equation are solved numerically with embedding the conceopt of the artificial compressibility and adopting the Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model. With varying the valve opening angles(the Reynolds number )such as 15$^{\circ}$(5000) , 45$^{\circ}$(3000) , 75$^{\circ}$(7000) and 90$^{\circ}$(10000), respectively. tow cases, with a valve shaft and without one, are analysed. The pressure loss between the entrance and exit is severe at 15$^{\circ}$, 100 times as larger as that of 90$^{\circ}$ case, which also depends much on the existece of the valve shaft. The counter rotating vortices are formed over the valve plate with the shaft at only 75$^{\circ}$. They are smally and very large scale in front and back of the valve shaft , respectively. The velocity profiles of 15$^{\circ}$ and 90$^{\circ}$ at the exit are almost symmetric to the horizontal center line, however, the symmetricity is no longer maintained at 45$^{\circ}$ and 75$^{\circ}$ , and in addition, the flow at 75$^{\circ}$ is enforced a lot below center line. The pressure distribution on the walls is largely changed near the valve shaft, and its magnitude becomes great as the valve angle decreases.

  • A numerical study on the viscous flow around a 2-dimensional circulation control foil is carried out for application on the field of naval architecture and ocean engineering. The governing equations are the RANS and the continuity equations. The equations are discretized by finite difference method and MAC method and the pressure poisson equation is calculate by a SOR method and an O-type non-staggered boundary fitted coordinate system which is overlapped near the slot is used to improve the numerical accuracy. Turbulence is approximated by a modified Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model. In the present paper, the Coanda effect on a 2-dimensional foil of a 20% thickness ellipse with modified rounded trailing edge has been numerically studied. The change in drag and lift of the foil with various jet momentums are calculated and compared to the experimental results to show good agreements.
