The Influence of Mental Capacity and Understanding of the Oxidation Reduction Concepts on Senior and Science High School Students' Completion of the Balancing Redox Equations (일반고와 과학고 학생들의 정신용량과 산화 환원 개념의 이해도가 산화 환원 반응식 완결에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of mental capacity and understanding of the oxi-dation-reduction concepts on the completion of the balancing redox equations. Participants were 92 senior high school students and 57 science high school students. Tests were conducted to measure the mental capacity, the understanding of the oxidation-reduction concepts and the completion of the balancing redox equations and the influence on the per-formance was analyzed. The performance of the senior high school students increased as the mental capacity increased, but the performance of science high school students did not change by mental capacity. Most of senior high school stu-dents couldn't understand the oxidation-reduction concepts well. Most of science high school students, however, under-stood the concepts completely and partially. The students who had a good understanding of the oxidation-reduction concepts showed a good performance for both senior and science high school students, regardless of the problem pattern.

Glitch Reduction Through Path Balancing for Low-Power CMOS Digital Circuits (저전력 CMOS 디지털 회로 설계에서 경로 균등화에 의한 글리치 감소기법)

  • 본 논문은 CMOS 디지털 회로에서의 전력 소모의 주원인인 신호의 천이중에서 회로의 동작에 직접적인 영향을 미치지 않는 불필요한 신호의 천이인 글리치를 줄이기 위한 효율적인 알고리즘을 제시한다. 제안된 알고리즘은 회로의 지연 증가 없이 게이트 사이징과 버퍼 삽입에 의해 경로 균등(path balancing)을 이룸으로써 글리치를 감소시킨다. 경로 균등화를 위하여 먼저 게이트 사이징을 통해 글리치의 감소와 동시에, 게이트 크기의 최적화를 통해 회로 전체의 캐패시턴스까지 줄일 수 있으며, 게이트 사이징 만으로 경로 균등화가 이루어지지 않을 경우 버퍼 삽입으로 경로 균등화를 이루게 된다. 버퍼 자체에 의한 전력 소모 증가보다 글리치 감소에 의한 전력 감소가 큰 버퍼를 선택하여 삽입한다. 이때 버퍼 삽입에 의한 전력 감소는 다른 버퍼의 삽입 상태에 따라 크게 달라질 수 있어 ILP (Integer Linear Program)를 이용하여 적은 버퍼 삽입으로 전력 감소를 최대화 할 수 있는 저전력 설계 시스템을 구현하였다. 제안된 알고리즘은 LGSynth91 벤치마크 회로에 대한 테스트 결과 회로의 지연 증가 없이 평균적으로 30.4%의 전력 감소를 얻을 수 있었다.Abstract This paper presents an efficient algorithm for reducing glitches caused by spurious transitions in CMOS logic circuits. The proposed algorithm reduces glitches by achieving path balancing through gate sizing and buffer insertion. The gate sizing technique reduces not only glitches but also effective capacitance in the circuit. In the proposed algorithm, the buffers are inserted between the gates where power reduction achieved by glitch reduction is larger than the additional power consumed by the inserted buffers. To determine the location of buffer insertion, ILP (Integer Linear Program) has been employed in the proposed system. The proposed algorithm has been tested on LGSynth91 benchmark circuits. Experimental results show an average of 30.4% power reduction.

Experimental Study on the Static Balancing Method of an Unbalanced Rigid Rotor (불평형 회전체의 정적평형 방법에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • The presence of an unbalanced mass is originated the common source of vibration in machines with rotating rotor. In this study, the unbalanced rigid rotor mounted on an overhang shaft is balanced using the static balancing procedure, and the compensation mass is estimated by the phase angle method and four run method. Also, the reduction of vibration level before and after balancing is examined. In the experimental results, it is shown that the vibration due to the unbalanced mass is decreased by eliminating the effect of the unbalance. Above all, the four run method is proved more effective on the ability of vibration reduction, in small unbalanced mass, the phase angle method.

Dynamic Balancing of Crank-type Transplanting Mechanism of Rice Transplanter (크랭크식 이앙기(移秧機) 식부기구(植付機構)의 동적(動的) 균형(均衡)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • The purpose of this study was twofold : first, to reduce as much as possible the shaking moments of the crank-type transplanting mechanism of walking-type rice transplanters, and second, to evaluate whether or not a crank-type transplanting mechanism, if its shaking moment is reduced, can be used in riding-type transplanters for high speed transplanting operations. For these purposes, kinematic and force analyses of the currently available crank-type transplanting mechanisms were made and their results were compared with those observed by experimentation. The degree of shaking moment effect was also estimated Various efforts to minimize the shaking moments led to the development of a crank-type mechanism with a balancing gear, in which an eccentric balancing gear is combined into the driven link axis. Analysis of the developed mechanism showed that about 20% of the shaking energy can be reduced and about 40% of reduction in peak shaking moment can be obtained when comparing with those obtained without the balancing gear. It was concluded that crank-type transplanting mechanisms can be used for high speed operations with a forward speed of 0.9-1.2m/s if the balancing gear is additionally mounted. However, further considerations must be made to solve the space constraints in relation to the structural frame of riding type of rice transplanters.

  • A vehicle's differential gear is a device designed to allow the vehicle's outer wheels to turn faster than the inner wheels when turning on a curve. The differential gear case is the main component of the differential gear system, which is composed of ring gear, pinion gear and side gear, and is fastened by pinion shaft pins. The differential gear case rotates when the vehicle is running, so balancing calibration is very important. In this study, a balancing machine that can diagnose and correct the differential gear case and mass imbalance of various rotating bodies was designed. The differential gear case was rotated at high speed to accurately diagnose the location and value of the unbalanced mass, and it was designed to be balanced and corrected by removing the unbalanced mass by drilling. After calibration, it was confirmed that the unbalanced value of all the measured samples was reduced to less than 180g.mm, and the unbalance reduction ratio was improved to 60~70%.

  • Structure of product, which is not considered by easy of assembly, has many hidden costs. For reduction of hidden costs, concepts of line balancing and assembly-oriented design are used. We find that part of structure can be improved by concept of line balancing. To reduce assembly time and enhance easy of assembly, design principles are developed by concept of assembly-oriented design. And design principles for improvement are applied according to condition of the grasped parts of product structure. Thersfore, we could design assembly-oriented design for better structure and low cost.

  • In this paper, we propose the discrete model reduction method of bounded real transfer functions. From the discrete bounded real lemma, we obtain the two riccati equations and define the disrete bounded real balancing using solutions of these two riccati equations. And we get the reduced order discrete model from the GSPA of full order model. Especially, when free parameter of GSPA is .+-.1, we show that the reduced order discrete model retains minimality, stability, and bounded real and BR-balancing properties. And we derive the .inf.-norm error bound between full order model and reduced order model. Finally to illustrate the validity of proposed method, we give an example.

  • In recent years, a number of thyristor-controlled shunt compensators have been used in industrial and utility systems for phase balancing, power-factor correction and flicker reduction. This paper describes a simple and basic control scheme and circuits for shunt compensator with a fixed capacitor and thyristor-controlled reactor. Feedforward-control scheme is applied, and compensating currents are computed from the symmetrical components of the disturbed system. A 8 bit microprocessor is used for the computation of the compensating currents as well as for the measurements of the symmetric components. A 3-phase 1 KVA compensator is developed and a good reduction of the unbalance factor of the power source is achieved using it.

Electrical Noise Reduction and Stiffness Increase with Self Force-Balancing Effect in a High-Resolution Capacitive Microaccelerometer using Branched Finger Electrodes with High-Amplitude Sense Voltage (고감지전압 및 가지전극을 이용한 고정도 정전용량형 미소가속도계의 전기적 잡음 감소 및 자율 균형력 발생에 의한 강성 증가)

  • This paper presents a high-resolution capactive microaccelerometer using branched finger electrodes with high-amplitude sense voltage. From the fabricated microacceleromcter, the total noise is obtained as 9 $\mu\textrm{g}$/√Hz at the sense voltage of 16.5V, while the conventional microaccelerometers have shown the noire level of 25~800 $\mu\textrm{g}$/√Hz. We reduce the mechanical noise level of the microaccelerometer by increasing the proof-class based on deep RIE process of an SOI wafer. We reduce the electrical noise level by increasing the amplitude of AC sense voltage. The nonlinearity problem caused by the high-amplitude sense volage has been solved by a new electrode design of branched finger type, resulting in self force-balancing effects for the enhanced linearity and bandwidth. The fabricated microaccelerometer shows the electrical noise of 2.4 $\mu\textrm{g}$/√Hz at the sense voltage of 16.5V, which is an order of magnitude reduction of the electrical noise of 24.3 $\mu\textrm{g}$/√Hz measured at 0.9V. For the sense voltage higher than 2V, the electrical noise of the microaccelerometer is lower than the voltage-independent mechanical noise of 11 $\mu\textrm{g}$/√Hz. Total noise, composed of the electrical noise and the mechanical noire, has been measured as 9 $\mu\textrm{g}$/√Hz at the sense voltage of 16.5V, which is 31% of the total noise of 28.6 $\mu\textrm{g}$/√Hz at the sense voltage 0.9V. The self force-balancing effect in the blanched finger electrodes increases the stiffness of the microaccelerometer from 1.1N/m to 1.61N/m as the sense voltage increases from 0V to 17.8V, thereby generating additional stiffness at the rate of 0.0016$\pm$0.0008 N/m/V$^2$.

DC Motor Drive with Circuit Balancing Technique to Reduce Common Mode Conducted Noise

  • In some requirements of dc motor drive circuit applications are high quality output with generation of low internal conducted EMI. However the conventional dc motor drive circuits have been usually using unbalanced circuit which generates the high conducted EMI to the frame ground. This paper presents a balanced dc motor drive circuit which is effective way to reduce the common-mode noise. The circuit balancing is to make the noise pick up or occurring in both conductor lines, signal path and return path is equal in amplitude and opposite phase so that it will cancel out in the frame ground. The common-mode conducted noise reduction of this proposed dc motor drive is confirmed by experimental results.
