In a distributed multiagent framework, the capabilities of each agent are known to other agents. Namely, each agent in a multiagent society is aware of what agents are available in the whole society, which is able to solve a query, and how to contact them. This characteristic leads to the simplicity in controling both local and remote interactions among agents by using a fixed form for communication packes. This paper presents methods for controlling interactions among agents in this distributed multiagent frame-work. Agent interactions are described within the platform of MASCOT that is a tightly coupled multiagent system developed for the role of a computer secretary. A frame-like form of a commumication packet is defined, and protocols for message exchanges are presented. Also, ascenarios given to demonstrate how the communication mechanism controls agent intercations in MASCOT.

There are many feature extraction methods for face recognition. We need a new method to overcome the small sample problem that the number of feature variables is larger than the sample size for face image data. The paper considers partial least squares(PLS) as a new dimension reduction technique for feature vector. Principal Component Analysis(PCA), a conventional dimension reduction method, selects the components with maximum variability, irrespective of the class information. So, PCA does not necessarily extract features that are important for the discrimination of classes. PLS, on the other hand, constructs the components so that the correlation between the class variable and themselves is maximized. Therefore PLS components are more predictive than PCA components in classification. The experimental results on Manchester and ORL databases shows that PLS is to be preferred over PCA when classification is the goal and dimension reduction is needed.
Two conserved amino acid residues in the extra sugar-binding space near the catalytic site of Thermus maltogenic amylase (ThMA) were analyzed for their role in the hydrolysis and transglycosylation activity of the enzyme. Site-directed mutagenesis was carried out by replacing N33l with a lysine (N331K), E332 with a histidine (E332H), or by replacing both residues at the same time (N331K/E332H). The measured $K_m$ values indicated that affinities toward all substrates tested, including starch, pullulan, ${\beta}-cyclomaltodextrin$, and acarbose, were lower in all the mutants compared to that of wild-type ThMA, leading to reduced hydrolysis activity. In addition, the lower ratio of transglycosylation to hydrolysis in the mutants compared to that in the wild-type ThMA indicated that these mutants preferred hydrolysis to the transglycosylation reaction. These results demonstrated that the conserved dipeptide at 331 and 332 of ThMA is directly involved in the formation and accumulation of transfer products by accommodating acceptor sugar molecules.
Background and Objectives : The treatment of supraglottic stenosis remains a challenging problem in the field of otolaryngology due to its association with dyspnea, dysphagia, and frequent recurrence. Any satisfactory treatment is not yet known. The author experienced six cases of supraglottic stenosis and report the successful treatment of five cases by repeated endoscopic laryngeal excision with KTP-532 laser under suspension layngoscopy. Materials and Methods : Six adults who were treated for supraglottic stenosis between March 1994 and December 1998 at the Department of Otoloaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Korea University Medical Center were studied retrospectively. The patients were placed under general anesthesia followed by endoscopic laryngeal excision with KTP-532 laser under supension laryngoscopy. The scar tissue and granulation tissue were visualized with an operating microscope, and then removed using KTP-532 laser (15watts, continuous mode). Intraoperative local steroid(Triamcinolone ) was injected in all cases after the stenotic portions were removed. Results : Endoscopic excision was performed in five cases ; among the five cases, cricoid cartilage was concomitantly removed in two cases, and epiglottis was removed in one case. Satisfactory swallowing and airway respiration were possible in all five patients who underwent endoscopic widening. Conclusion : The treatment of supraglottic stenosis is different from that of tracheal or glottic stenosis in that supraglottic stenosis is mainly developed in membraneous form. Repeated laser excision and local steroid injection under suspension laryngoscopy is an effective and recommend able method for the treatment of supraglottic stenosis.

This paper proposes The Efficient method that should design Geosensor model based on object oriented design pattern and implement the Geosensor network interface system using JBuilder. Such as geosensor technology will be to a new research paradigm of GIS which can manage a great quantity of field information by means of constructing the real time remote sensing network. The technology that integrates object oriented design pattern Geosensor interface network with GIS will be necessary elements that satisfy the function of GIS increasing day by day. Therefore, we would like to utilize GoF design pattern in order to change for the better object oriented Geosensor middleware. This paper shall contribute to implementing the optimal Geosensor interface that can develop reusable, modular and modifiable software by using the object oriented design pattern.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors associated with respirator usage on the basis of reasoned action theory. Methods : The data were collected from August 1 to September 30 1999, and study subjects consisted of 303 workers who were employed in the manufacturing industries. A self-administered questionnaire was used to measure the attitude, subjective norm and related factors. Results : In bivariate analysis, the variables related to protector usage were prevention of occupational disease, protection of toxic material, disturbance during working, troublesome of usage, proper exchange of protector. Multivariate logit analysis was used to estimate factors associated with respirator usage. Significant predictors that are related to respirator usage were attitude toward the behavior, size of industry and proper exchange of protector. Conclusions : The results suggest that it is strongly required to focus on attitude toward the behavior in order to improve workers' usage of respirator.

Black soybean with the anthocyanin in the seed coat is known to have higher antioxidant activity than the yellow soybean. This study was carried out to evaluate antioxidant activity of 231 Korean black soybean landraces which conserved at RDA gene bank. Antioxidant activities were measured using DPPH, TPC, TFC, ABTS, and FRAP assay. DPPH showed wide variations, ranging from 16.4 to 200.4($IC_{50}$). TPC, TFC, ABTS, and FRAP were ranged from 0.8 to 13.2 mg gallic acid equivalent/g (mg GAE/g), 0.15 to 0.82 mg quercetin equivalent/g (mg QE/g), 2.0 to 8.3 mg ascorbic acid/g (mg ASC/g) and 0.2 to 3.1 mg ASC/g, respectively. Among 231 Korean black soybean landraces, IT177715 showed the highest antioxidant activity in DPPH assay. In TPC, TFC, ABTS, and FRAP assays, IT274975, IT274551, IT167725, and IT178047 showed the highest antioxidant activity, respectively. In Relative Antioxidant Capacity Index (RACI), IT178047 showed the highest antioxidant activity, while IT177197 the lowest. This study will be able to provide useful data to select black soybean landraces with high antioxidant activity.
Nystatin, a polyene antifungal antibiotic, is a cholesterol sequestering agent. The antifungal agent alters composition of the plasma membrane of eukaryotic cells, whereas its effects on cells are poorly investigated. In the current study, we investigated the question of whether nystatin was able to induce expression of macrophage inflammatory protein-1 (MIP-1). THP-1 cells rarely express MIP-$1{\alpha}$ and MIP-$1{\beta}$, however, upon exposure to nystatin, significantly elevated expression of MIP-$1{\alpha}$ and MIP-$1{\beta}$ was observed in a dose-dependent fashion at the messenger and protein levels. Cellular factors activated by nystatin as well as involved in nystatin-induced expression of MIP-1 proteins were identified in order to understand the molecular mechanisms of action of the anti-fungal agent. Treatment with nystatin resulted in enhanced phosphorylation of Akt, ERK, p38 MAPK, and JNK. Abrogation or significant attenuation of nystatin-induced expression of MIP-$1{\alpha}$ and MIP-$1{\beta}$ was observed by treatment with Akt inhibitor IV, LY294002, and SP6001250. Inhibition of ERK or p38MAPK using U0126 and SB202190 did not lead to attenuation of MIP-1 expression. In addition, inhibitors of protein kinase C, such as GF109203X and Ro-318220, also attenuated expression of MIP-1. These results indicate that nystatin is able to activate multiple cellular kinases and, among them, Akt and JNK play primary roles in nystatin-induced expression of MIP-1 proteins.
The antitumor activity of the roots extract of Pueraria thunbergiana was investigated on the basis of cytotoxicity upon the cultured human tumor cell lines, in vitro. The purification of methylene chloride (MC) soluble part and ethylacetate (EA) soluble part of extract by column chromatography furnished seven isoflavonoids, two triterpenoids, one but-2-enolide. The structures of them were established by chemical and spectroscopic means to be lupeol (1), $\beta$-sitosterol (2), biochanin A (3), (-)-tuberosin (4), calycosin (5), daidzein (6), puerarin (7), daidzin (8), (+)-puerol-B 2-O-$\beta$-glucopyranoside (9), formononetin-7-O-$\beta$-glucopyranoside (10). Each isolates ($1{\sim}10$) were evaluated for inhibitory activities on the proliferation of cultured human tumor cell lines such as A549, SK-OV-3, HCT-15 and SK-MEL-2, respectively.
