  • Greenhouse have been developed to provide the plants with good environmental conditions for cultivation crop, two major factors of which are the inside air temperature and humidity. The inside temperature are influenced by the heating systems, ventilators and for systems among others, which in turn are geverned by some type of controller. Likewise, humidity environment is the result of complex mass exchanges between the inside air and the several elements of the greenhouse and the outside boundaries. Most of the existing models are based on the energy balance method and heat balance equation for modelling the heat and mass fluxes and generating dynamic elements. However, greenhouse are classified as complex system, and need to make a sophisticated modeling. Furthermore, there is a difficulty in using classical control methods for complex process system due to the process are non linear and multi-output(MIMO) systems. In order to predict the time evolution of conditions in certain greenhouse as a function, we present here to use of recurrent neural networks(RNN) which has been used to implement the direct dynamics of the inside temperature and inside humidity of greenhouse. For the training, we used algorithm of a backpropagation Through Time (BPTT). Because the environmental parameters are shared by all time steps in the network, the gradient at each output depends not only on the calculations of the current time step, but also the previous time steps. The training data was emulated to 13 input variables during March 1 to 7, and the model was tested with database file of March 8. The RMSE of results of the temperature modeling was $0.976^{\circ}C$, and the RMSE of humidity simulation was 4.11%, which will be given to prove the performance of RNN in prediction of the greenhouse environment.

  • The Loose Part Monitoring System(LPMS) has been designed to detect, locate and evaluate detached or loosened parts and foreign objects in the reactor coolant system. In this paper, at first, we presents an application of the back propagation neural network. At the preprocessing step, the moving window average filter is adopted to reject the low frequency background noise components. And then, extracting the acoustic signature such as Starting point of impact signal, Rising time, Half period, and Global time, they are used as the inputs to neural network. Secondly, we applied the neural network algorithm to LPMS in order to estimate the mass of loose parts. We trained the impact test data of YGN3 using the backpropagation method. The input parameter for training is Rising Time, Half Period, Maximum amplitude. The result showed that the neural network would be applied to LPMS. Also, applying the neural network to the Practical false alarm data during startup and impact test signal at nuclear power Plant, the false alarms are reduced effectively. 1.

  • Functional feeding groups (FFGs) of benthic macroinvertebrates are guilds of invertebrate taxa that obtain food in similar ways, regardless of their taxonomic affinities. They can represent a heterogeneous assemblage of benthic fauna and may indicate disturbances of their habitats. The proportion of different groups can change in response to disturbances that affect the food base of the system, thereby offering a means of assessing disruption of ecosystem functioning. In this study, we used benthic macroinvertebrate communities collected at 650 sites of 23 different water types in the province of Overijssel, The Netherlands. Physical and chemical environmental factors were measured at each sampling site. Each taxon was assigned to its corresponding FFG based on its food resources. A multilayer perceptron (MLP) using a backpropagation algorithm, a supervised artificial neural network, was applied to evaluate the influence of environmental variables to the FFGs of benthic macroinvertebrates through a sensitivity analysis. In the evaluation of input variables, the sensitivity analysis with partial derivatives demonstrates the relative importance of influential environmental variables on the FFG, showing that different variables influence the FFG in various ways. Collector-filterers and shredders were mainly influenced by $Ca^{2+}$ and width of the streams, and scrapers were influenced mostly with $Ca^{2+}$ and depth, and predators were by depth and pH. $Ca^{2+}$ and depth displayed relatively high influence on all four FFGs, while some variables such as pH, %gravel, %silt, and %bank affected specific groups. This approach can help to characterize community structure and to ecologically assess target ecosystems.

  • Target prioritization is necessary for a multifunction radar(MFR) to track an important target and manage the resources of the radar platform efficiently. In this paper, we consider an artificial neural network(ANN) model that calculates the priority of the target. Furthermore, we propose a neural network learning algorithm based on the steepest descent method, which is more suitable for target prioritization by combining the conventional gradient descent method. Several simulation results show that the proposed scheme is much more superior to the traditional neural network model from analyzing the training data accuracy and the output priority relevance of the test scenarios.

  • In content-based image retrieval (CBIR), most conventional approaches assume a linear relationship between different features and require users themselves to assign the appropriate weights to each feature. However, the linear relationship assumed between the features is too restricted to accurately represent high-level concepts and the intricacies of human perception. In this paper, a neural network-based image retrieval (NNIR) model is proposed. It has been developed based on a human-computer interaction approach to CBIR using a radial basis function network (RBFN). By using the RBFN, this approach determines the nonlinear relationship between features and it allows the user to select an initial query image and search incrementally the target images via relevance feedback so that more accurate similarity comparison between images can be supported. The experiment was performed to calculate the level of recall and precision based on a database that contains 1,015 images and consists of 145 classes. The experimental results showed that the recall and level of the proposed approach were 93.45% and 80.61% respectively, which is superior than precision the existing approaches such as the linearly combining approach, the rank-based method, and the backpropagation algorithm-based method.

  • In order to support increased consumer awareness regarding energy consumption, we present new ways of monitoring and predicting with energy in electric appliances. The proposed system is a design of a common electrical power outlet called smart plug that measures the amount of current passing through current sensor at 0.5 second. To acquire data for training and testing the proposed neural network, weather parameters used include average temperature of day, min and max temperature, humidity, and sunshine hour as input data, and power consumption as target data from smart plug. Using the experimental data for training, the neural network model based on Back-Propagation algorithm was developed. Multi layer perception network was used for nonlinear mapping between the input and the output data. It was observed that the proposed neural network model can predict the power consumption quite well with correlation coefficient was 0.9965, and prediction mean square error was 0.02033.

  • Turbidity has various effects on the water quality and ecosystem of a river. High turbidity during floods increases the operation cost of a drinking water supply system. Thus, the management of turbidity is essential for providing safe water to the public. There have been various efforts to estimate turbidity in river systems for proper management and early warning of high turbidity in the water supply process. Advanced data analysis technology using machine learning has been increasingly used in water quality management processes. Artificial neural networks(ANNs) is one of the first algorithms applied, where the overfitting of a model to observed data and vanishing gradient in the backpropagation process limit the wide application of ANNs in practice. In recent years, deep learning, which overcomes the limitations of ANNs, has been applied in water quality management. LSTM(Long-Short Term Memory) is one of novel deep learning algorithms that is widely used in the analysis of time series data. In this study, LSTM is used for the prediction of high turbidity(>30 NTU) in a river from the relationship of turbidity to discharge, which enables early warning of high turbidity in a drinking water supply system. The model showed 0.98, 0.99, 0.98 and 0.99 for precision, recall, F1-score and accuracy respectively, for the prediction of high turbidity in a river with 2 hour frequency data. The sensitivity of the model to the observation intervals of data is also compared with time periods of 2 hour, 8 hour, 1 day and 2 days. The model shows higher precision with shorter observation intervals, which underscores the importance of collecting high frequency data for better management of water resources in the future.
