In general, background subtraction based methods are used to detect the moving objects in visual tracking applications. In this paper we employed background subtraction based scheme to detect the temporarily stationary objects. We proposed two schemes for stationary object detection and we compare those in terms of detection performance and computational complexity. In the first approach we used single background and in the second approach we used dual backgrounds, generated with different learning rates, in order to detect temporarily stopped object. Finally, we used normalized cross correlation (NCC) based image comparison to monitor and track the detected stationary object in a video scene. The proposed method is robust with partial occlusion, short time fully occlusion and illumination changes, as well as it can operate in real time.

This paper proposes the extraction of coronary arteries based on DSA(Digital Subtraction Angiography) through a texture analysis of background in the angiography. DSA is a well established modality for the visualization of coronary arteries. DSA involves the subtraction of a mask image - an image of the heart before injection of contrast medium - from live image. However, this technique is sensitive to the movement of background and can result to a wrong detection by the variance of background gray-level intensity between two images. Therefore, this paper solves a structural problem resulted from a background movement bV selecting an image which has the least difference of movement through an analysis of the similarity of background texture and proposes a method to extract only the blood vessel efficiently through local gray-level correction of the selected image. Using the coronary angiogram of 5 patients clinical data, we proved that the proposed method has the lower false-detection rate, approximately $2\%$, and the higher accuracy than the existing methods.

Optical emission spectroscopy is used to identify chemical species and monitor the changes of process results during the plasma process. However, plasma process monitoring or fault detection by using emission signal variation monitoring is vulnerable to background signal fluctuations. IR heaters are used in semiconductor manufacturing chambers where high temperature uniformity and fast response are required. During the process, the IR lamp output fluctuates to maintain a stable process temperature. This IR signal fluctuation reacts as a background signal fluctuation to the spectrometer. In this research, we evaluate the effect of infrared background signal fluctuation on plasma process monitoring and improve the plasma process monitoring accuracy by using simple infrared background signal subtraction method. The effect of infrared background signal fluctuation on plasma process monitoring was evaluated on $SiO_2$ PECVD process. Comparing the $SiO_2$ film thickness and the measured emission line intensity from the by-product molecules, the effect of infrared background signal on plasma process monitoring and the necessity of background signal subtraction method were confirmed.

A process of identifying moving objects from data is typical task in many computer vision applications. In this paper, we propose a motion segmentation method that generally consists from background subtraction and foreground pixel segmentation. The Approximated Median Filter (AMF) was chosen to perform background modelling. To demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed approach, we tested it gray-scale video data as well as RGB color space.
Moving object segmentation from a nonstationary camera is a difficult problem due to the motion of both camera and the object. In this paper, we propose a new confidence-based background subtraction technique from moving camera. The method is based on clustering of motion vectors and generating adaptive multi-homography from a pair of adjacent video frames. The main innovation concerns the use of confidence images for each foreground and background motion groups. Experimental results revealed that our confidence-based approach robustly detect moving targets in sequences taken by a freely moving camera.

This paper proposes an object detection method based on motion estimation using background subtraction in the fisheye images obtained through omni-directional camera mounted on the vehicle. Recently, most of the vehicles installed with rear camera as a standard option, as well as various camera systems for safety. However, differently from the conventional object detection using the image obtained from the camera, the embedded system installed in the vehicle is difficult to apply a complicated algorithm because of its inherent low processing performance. In general, the embedded system needs system-dependent algorithm because it has lower processing performance than the computer. In this paper, the location of object is estimated from the information of object's motion obtained by applying a background subtraction method which compares the previous frames with the current ones. The real-time detection performance of the proposed method for object detection is verified experimentally on embedded board by comparing the proposed algorithm with the object detection based on LKOF (Lucas-Kanade optical flow).

Recently, the demand for remote patient monitoring based on IoT has been increased due to aging population and an increase in single-person household. A non-contact biological signal measurement system using multiple IR-UWB radars for remote patient monitoring is proposed in this paper. To reduce error signals, a multilayer Subtraction algorithm is applied because when the background subtraction algorithm was applied to the biological signal processing, errors occurred such as voltage noise and staircase phenomenon. Therefore, a multilayer background subtraction algorithm is applied to reduce error occurrence. The multilayer background subtraction algorithm extracts the signal by calculating the amount of change between the previous clutter and the current clutter. In this study, the SVD algorithm is used. We applied the improved multilayer background subtraction algorithm to biological signal measurement and computed the respiration rate through Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). To verify the proposed system using IR-UWB radars and multilayer background subtraction algorithm, the respiration rate was measured. The validity of this study was verified by obtaining a precision of 97.36% as a result of a control experiment with Neulog's attachment type breathing apparatus. The implemented algorithm improves the inconvenience of the existing contact wearable method.

This paper describes about a technique of generating music from the natural motion of fish which are detected via the running averaging background subtraction method. The motion of the fish will create musical notes on a background frame which will be analyzed and played by a music playing module that is proposed in this paper called "PhysicX". This module is also capable of interacting with the fishes. in the tank.

This paper presents a new auto brighoess control algorithm fur adaptive background subtraction. The algorithm is designed to cope with the problem of auto-brightness adjustment feature of consumer-type cameras. The experimental results show the proposed method improves performance of the classification. This will be beneficial to many computer vision applications in term of reducing the cost of implementation and making them more available to the mass consumer market.
The hydroxyl radical (OH) sky emission lines arise from the Earth's mesosphere, and they serve as a major source of the sky background in the infrared. With IGRINS, the observed line strength show non-negligible variation even within a few minutes of time scale, making its subtraction difficult. Toward the aim better sky subtraction in the IGRINS pipeline, we present 1) improved identification of sky lines in H and K band and 2) improved method of subtracting sky background. Using the recent line list of Brooke et al. (2015), we have detected ~500 OH doublets from upper vibrational level between 2 and 9 and maximum upper J level of 25. In particular, we found that a significant fraction of unidentified lines reported by Oliva et al. (2015) are indeed OH lines resulting from transitions between different F levels. With the extended line identification, we present an improved method of sky subtraction. The method, based on the method of Noll et al. (2014), empirically accounts non-LTE level population of OH molecules.
