  • In this paper, we propose a small target detection algorithm for FLIR image with complex background. First, we compute the motion information of target from the difference between the current frame and the created background image. However, the slow speed of target cause that it has the very low gray level value in the difference image. To improve the gray level value, we perform the local gamma correction for difference image. So, the detection index is computed by using statistical characteristics in the improved image and then we chose the lowest detection index a true target. Experimental results show that the proposed method has significantly the good detection performance.

  • We propose a vision-based method that estimates train position and movement for railway monitoring in which we use a fuzzy classifier to determine train states. The proposed method employs frame difference and background subtraction for estimating train motion and presence, respectively. These features are used as the linguistic variables of the fuzzy classifier. Experimental results show that the proposed method can correctly estimate train position and movement. Therefore the method can be used for railway monitoring systems which estimate crowd density or protect safety.

  • The subjects of this study were municipal citizens of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and selected 250 members of the sports clubs as members. The sampling method for the data was used with simple ramdom sampling method, self-administration method. After questionnaire was distributed and retrieved, a total of 200 questionnaires were analyzed except for 50 items which were judged to be lack of credibility (double entry, no entry, insufficient data). For the data analysis, frequency analysis, ${\chi}^2$, factor analysis, reliability analysis, and one-way ANOVA were conducted in this study. First, there was no significant difference in life satisfaction among the participants. However, there was a significant difference in leisure satisfaction according to age. Second, there was a statistically significant difference in the life satisfaction of the athletes according to educational background, and there was a statistically significant difference in leisure satisfaction according to educational background.

  • Objective: The study analyzed the awareness of physical therapists regarding correct breathing methods and the effect of breathing training on patients. Design: A cross-sectional survey study. Methods: Physical therapists who agreed to participate in the study, held a license as a physical therapist, and had training or experience in breathing were included as subjects. A total of 136 questionnaires were collected, out of which 129 were analyzed. The questionnaire consisted of 26 items, divided into several sections covering awareness of breathing methods, breathing and muscles, breathing and mind, breathing and movement, perception of mouth breathing and nose breathing, experience applying respiration as a treatment, perception of breathing and treatment, awareness of breathing and pain, awareness of breathing and chronic diseases and prevention, perceptions related to breathing and sleep, and educational background. Results: The study found that most therapists were aware of diaphragmatic breathing, but not Lamaze breathing. 76.7% claimed to that there is a correct breathing method, and the majority were aware of the reasons for correct breathing. The majority believed in the therapeutic effect of breathing, with core exercise breathing training being the most commonly used in therapy. 81.7% of therapists had taught a specific breathing method to a patient, and diaphragmatic breathing was the most provided treatment. There was no significant difference in perception according to clinical experience, but there was a significant difference in perception according to educational background. Conclusions: The study provided clinical background on Physical Therapists' belief on correct breathing method, and uses of breathing training during treatment. The results suggest there is a need for a coherent education on breathing method and techniques among Physical Therapists.

  • In this paper, we propose a normalized cross correlation(NCC)-based multiview background subtraction method which is robust when an object and background have similar color. When the background of the capturing environment is not artificially composed, the regions in the background images which would be occluded by an object tends to have difference colors. The colors of those regions, however, becomes similar when an object enters the capturing environment. Based on this assumption, this paper proposes a concept of GoNCC(Graph of Normalized Cross Correlation). GoNCC is the distribution of NCC between a pixel in an image and pixels related by epipolar constraints with the pixel. The proposed multiview background subtraction method is performed by comparing GoNCC of the current images with the background images. To reduce computational complexity, we perform multiview background subtraction only to the pixels undetermined by single view background subtraction. Experimental results show that the proposed method is more robust to color similarity between an object and background than a single-view background subtraction method and a previous multiview background subtraction method.

  • Object tracking in a real time image is one of Interesting subjects in computer vision and many practical application fields past couple of years. But sometimes existing systems cannot find object by recognize background noise as object. This paper proposes a method of object detection and tracking using adaptive background image in real time. To detect object which does not influenced by illumination and remove noise in background image, this system generates adaptive background image by real time background image updating. This system detects object using the difference between background image and input image from camera. After setting up MBR(minimum bounding rectangle) using the internal point of detected object, the system tracks object through this MBR. In addition, this paper evaluates the test result about performance of proposed method as compared with existing tracking algorithm.

  • A new lane detection algorithm is proposed for the analysis of DNA fingerprints from a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) gel electrophoresis image. Although several research results have been previously reported, it is still challenging to extract lanes precisely from images having abrupt background brightness difference and bent lanes. We propose an edge based algorithm for calculating the average lane width and lane cycle. Our method adopts sub-pixel algorithm for extracting rising-edges and falling edges precisely and estimates the lane width and cycle by using k-means clustering algorithm. To handle the curved lanes, we partition the gel image into small portions, and track the lane centers in each partitioned image. 32 gel images including 534 lanes are used to evaluate the performance of our method. Experimental results show that our method is robust to images having background difference and bent lanes without any preprocessing.

  • This paper resents a spatio-temporal video segmentation method. The algorithm segments each frame of video sequences captured by a static or moving camera into moving objects (foreground) and background using a statistical hypothesis test. In the proposed method, three consecutive image frames are exploited and a hypothesis testing is performed by comparing two means from two consecutive difference images, which results in a T-test. This hypothesis test yields change detection mask that indicates moving areas (foreground) and non-moving areas (background). Moreover, an effective method for extracting object mask form change detection mask is proposed.

  • In online meetings and classes using webcams, the chromakey technique is a very necessary part to produce content. We proposed a technology that enables background synthesis without using a cloth for chromakey. The proposed method consists of three steps: an HSI image conversion step, a step of detecting a region changed from a background, and a step of replacing the background region with a chromakey and applying it. In the input video, the block average image of each frame is calculated, and the difference between the block average image of the background image and the block average image of the input image is used to detect the change area. The developed chromakey effect technology uses a technique of acquiring a background image without an object from a single camera and extracting only an object by distinguishing the moving object and the background. The proposed method is not only capable of processing even if the background has a variety of colors, but also has the seamless processing of the boundary lines of objects.

  • In this paper, we propose a smoke detection method using region growing method in outdoor video sequences. Our proposed method is composed of three steps; the initial change area detection step, the boundary finding and expanding step, and the smoke classification step. In the first step, we use a background subtraction to detect changed areas in the current input frame against the background image. In difference images of the background subtraction, we calculate a binary image using a threshold value and apply morphology operations to the binary image to remove noises. In the second step, we find boundaries of the changed areas using labeling algorithm and expand the boundaries to their neighbors using the region growing algorithm. In the final step, ellipses of the boundaries are estimated using moments. We classify whether the boundary is smoke by using the temporal information.
