Piezoelectric and Dielectric Properties of (Na,Li)$NbO_3$ Ceramics According to the $BaTiO_3$ substitution ($BaTiO_3$ 치환에 따른 (Na,Li)$NbO_3$ 세라믹스의 압전 및 유전특성)

  • In this study, in order to develop the composition ceramics of lead-free ultrasonic motor, (Na,Li)$NbO_3-BaTiO_3$ ceramics were fabricated using a conventional mixed oxide process and their piezoelectric and dielectric characteristics were investigated according to the $BaTiO_3$, substitution. $BaTiO_3$ substitution enhanced density, dielectric constants$({\varepsilon}_r)$ and electromechanical coupling factor$(k_p)$. However, mechanical quality factor was deteriorated. At the $BaTiO_3$ substitution of 4mol%, density, electromechanical coupling factor$(k_p)$, dielectric constants$({\varepsilon}_r)$ and piezoelectric constant$(d_{33})$ of specimen showed the optimum value of $4.493g/cm^3$, 0.236, 175, 70pC/N, respectively.

Effect of Bi2O3/Li2CO3 on Low Temperature Sintering and Dielectrics of BaTiO3 Ceramics (BaTiO3 저온 소결 및 유전상에 미치는 Bi2O3/Li2CO3의 영향)

  • Effect of Bi2O3/Li2CO3 on low temperature sinteirng and dielectric property of BaTiO3 ceramics has been investigated. For the specimen sintered at 110$0^{\circ}C$, it was densified to 96% of BaTiO3 theoretical density by the addition of 1.0-1.25w/o Bi2O3/Li2CO3. Maximum dielectric constant increased and Curie temperature lowered with the increase of Bi2O3/Li2CO3 content, which probably can be explained by thne substitution of Bi3+, Li1+ on BaTiO3 lattice. The volatilization of Li1+, resulting from the increase of soaking time at 110$0^{\circ}C$ leads to the increase of Curie temperature and tetragonality of the specimen.

  • Grain boundary chemistry and electrical characteristics of polycrystalline BaTiO3 ceramics, which were prepared with sol-gel surface-coated semiconducting powders, were investigated. Mn ions were coated on the powder surface by sol-gel coating-techniques. The additives coated on the surface of the powders were observed to be present near the grain boundaries of the ceramics. The ceramics exhibit the PTCR characteristics with a resistivity jump ratio(Pmax/Pmin) of about 2$\times$103. With raising the temperature from room temprature to 20$0^{\circ}C$, the oxidation state of the Mn ions varied from Mn3+ to Mn2+ in the coating layers. Near the grain boundaries an excessive negative charge layer of about 20nm was formed.

Piezoelectric properties of (Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3-BaTiO3 ceramics prepared by reactive templated grain growth method (Reactive Templated Grain Growth법에 의해 제조된 (Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3-BaTiO3 세라믹스의 압전 특성)

  • Crystallographically {h00}-oriented $0.94(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_{3}-0.06BaTiO_{3}$ (0.94BNT-0.06BT) ceramics was prepared by the Reactive Templated Grain Growth (RTGG) method using the $Bi_{4}Ti_{3}O_{12}$ template. The sheets prepared by tape-casting of slurries containing the templates and starting materials are cut, laminated, and pressed. Then burn-out and sintering was conducted. Also, to compare with the 0.94BNT-0.06BT ceramics prepared by the RTGG method another 0.94BNT-0.06BT ceramics was prepared by the solid-state method. In the optimum of this experiments range, the degree of orientation of the 0.94BNT-0.06BT ceramics prepared by the RTGG method was texture fraction${\approx}92%$ and the piezoelectric constant($d_{33}$) and coupling factor($k_{p}$) was obtained to $d_{33}{\approx}205{\;}pC/N$, $k_{p}{\approx}0.33%$, respectively.

Improved Densification and Microwave Dielectric Properties of BaO·Nd2O3·5TiO2 Modified with an Iso-Component Borate Glass

  • [ $BaO{\cdot}Nd_2O_3{\cdot}5TiO_2$ ] (BNT) ceramics modified with a borate glass containing Ba, Nd and Ti as glass constituents were investigated with regard to their sintering behavior and microwave dielectric properties. An addition of iso-component glass significantly improved the sinterabilty of the BNT ceramics and lowered the sintering temperature. A maximum density of $5.29\;g/cm^3$ and an x-y shrinkage of 17% were obtained for BNT ceramics containing 10wt.% of the glass sintered at $1100^{\circ}C$. The dielectric composition without the glass additive was only slightly densified at $1100^{\circ}C$. The resulting sample exhibited two crystalline phases, $BaNd_2Ti_5O_{14}$ and $Ba_2Ti_9O_{20}$, regardless of sintering temperature and glass content. When >10wt.% glass was added, exaggerated grain growth with a less uniform microstructure was found, resulting in the subsequent reduction of the fired density and the dielectric properties. BNT ceramics containing 10wt.% of the isocomponent glass sintered at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 4 h showed promising dielectric properties of k = 71.3 and Q = 1,330.

Synthesis of High-Aspect-Ratio BaTiO3 Platelets by Topochemical Conversion and Fabrication of Textured Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-32.5PbTiO3 Ceramics

  • Perovskite structured barium titanate particles ($BaTiO_3$) platelets were synthesized by molten salt synthesis and topochemical microcrystal conversion. As the precursors of $BaTiO_3$, plate-like $BaBi_4Ti_4O_{15}$ particles were first synthesized by the reaction of $Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$, $BaCO_3$, and $TiO_2$ at $1080^{\circ}C$ for 3 h in $BaCl_2$-KCl molten salt. After the topochemical reactions, layer-structured $BaBi_4Ti_4O_{15}$ particles transformed to the perovskite $BaTiO_3$ platelets. $BaTiO_3$ particles with thickness of approximately $0.5{\mu}m$ and a length of $10-15{\mu}m$ retained the morphology feature of the $BaBi_4Ti_4O_{15}$ precursor. For <001> $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-32.5PbTiO_3$ (PMNT)-5 wt % PbO piezoelectric ceramics textured with 5 vol % of $BaTiO_3$ templates, the Lotgering factor reached 0.82, and $d_{33}$ was 870 pC/N.

  • The $BaTi_{4}O_{9}$ ceramics with CoO(0.5wt%) were prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method. The sintering temperature and time were $1350^{\circ}C$, 3hr., respectively. The structural properties were investigated with sintering temperature by XRD. Also the microwave dielectric properties of the $BaTi_{4}O_{9}$ ceramics were studied. According to the X -ray diffraction patte구 of the $BaTi_{4}O_{9}$ ceramics with CoO(0.5wt%), the orthorhombic $BaTi_{4}O_{9}$ structure was appeared.   • Effects of calcination process and ZrO2 addition on the electrical properties of [(Ba0.82Sr0.08Ca0.1)O]m(Ti1-$\chi$Zr$\chi$)O2 ceramics have been investigated. With the variation of A/B-site ratio m of the dielectric formulations, sintering behavior and the resistivity after sintering in a reducing atmosphere have been affected by the calcination process. When the dielectric formulations of m=1.01 were sintered in a reducing atmosphere, the room-temperature resitivity of 109 {{{{ OMEGA }}.cm was obtained for samples processed with two-step calcination, which was much lower than 1012 {{{{ OMEGA }}.cm of samples calcined once. It was confirmed that high resistivity of Ca-doped BaTiO3 ceramics, after sintering in a reducing atmosphere, is maintained by acceptor-like behavior of CaTi" which is formed by Ca substitution to Ti-site. It was also found out that the critical amount of B-site Ca substitution for reduction inhibition of BaTiO3 is around 0.005 mol. With the increasing amount of ZrO2 addition to dielectric formulations, Curie peak was depressed and Curie temperature was lowered due to the enhanced diffuse phase transition.tion.

  • The effect of Si3N4 addition on the microstructure and PTCR characteristics of BaTiO3 was studied. When 0.1 mol% Sb2O3-doped BaTiO3 codoped with Si3N4 (0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1 wt%, respectively) were sintered, their microstructures were changed by the amount of the liquid phase as a result of eutectic reaction at 126$0^{\circ}C$. By these microstructural changes, the specific resistivity ratio($\rho$max/$\rho$min) with Si3N4 content variation of 0.1 mol% Sb2O3-doped BaTiO3 ceramics sintered at 130$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour varied between 3.70$\times$102(0.1 wt% Si3N4) to 1.16$\times$103 (1wt% Si3N4).

  • An anomalous positive temperature coefficient of electrical resistivity (PTCR) was investigated in a ferroelectric lead-free perovskite-type compound $(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ within $BaTiO_3$-based solid solution ceramics. The effect of $Nb_2O_5$ content on the electrical properties and the microstructure of (1 - x) $BaTiO_3-x\;(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ (BNT) ceramics made using a conventional mixed oxide process also has been studied. The Curie temperature was obviously increased with the increasing of $(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TIO_3$ content. The Nb - doped BNT ceramics (x=0.01) display low resistivity values of $10^{1{\circ}}C-10^{2{\circ}}C$ ohm.cm at room temperature and the Curie Temperature of $T_c=160^{\circ}C$.
