Performance Improvement of Base Station Controller using Separation Control Method of Input Messages for Mobile Communication Systems (이동통신 시스템에서 입력 메시지 분리제어 방식을 통한 제어국의 성능 개선)

  • In this paper, we propose a control model which can control the burst input messages of the BSC(Base Station controller) in mobile communication systems more efficiently and reliably, by dividing the input messages characteristically and using multiprocessor system. Using M/M/c/K queueing model, we briefly analyze proposed model to get characteristic parameters which are required to performance improvement. On the base of the results, we compare our proposed model with the conventional one by using SLAM II with regard to the following factors : the call blocking rate of the input message, the distribution of average queue length, the utilization of process controller(server), and the distribution of average waiting time in queue. In addition, we modified our model which has overload control function for burst input messages, and analyzed its performance.

  • 향상된 성능의 3 세대 무선 인터넷 서비스를 제공하기 위해 등장한 IEEE 802.16 표준은 VoIP를 적용 할 수 있는 QoS 기능을 규정하고 있으며 WiMAX 포럼의 장비 제조사들은 저마다의 scheduling 기법 구현을 통해 WiMAX 네트워크에서 voice service가 가능하도록 장비를 설계하고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고, WiMAX 무선 구간에서 사용되는 MAC header는 제한된 RF 자원의 사용에 부담을 주고 있으며, BS(base station)와 BSC(BS controller)간에 사용되는 tunneling protocol의 헤더 역시 VoIP packet에 붙게 되어 대역폭의 비효율화를 초래한다. 유선상에서의 overheader는 저렴한 Gigabit Ethernet 링크를 사용하면 대역폭이 충분히 커지므로 별 문제가 되지 않지만 무선 상의 overheader는 반드시 줄여져야만 효율적인 무선 자원 이용 및 voice quality의 향상을 가져올 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 지금까지 제안된 IP/UDP/RTP 헤더 압축 기법 및 WiMAX MAC header 압축 기법을 분석하여, 무선 구간 WiMAX 네트워크에서 VoIP 서비스를 효율적으로 제공할 수 있는 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

A handover scheme in next generation mobile networks

  • Inter-RNC(radio network controller) and inter-BSC(base station center) hard handovers involve rerouting. Thus additional delay time for the new bearer setup and reroute determination should be considered. For theses kinds of handovers we propose a new scheme and coined it as ICHP(Inter-Cluster Handover Prediction). When a call approaches a boundary cell of a cluster, ICHP prepares for the handover by performing resource reservations and reroute computation in advance. Performance analysis shows that ICHP provides faster handover and that it lowers the blocking probability.

  • In the IMT-2000 networks, the model of micro/pico cell is suggested for transmission of multimedia service. Hence, the efficient method is required for processing of mobile calls in micro/pico cell. In the central urban area, mobile calls may be dynamically increased because of many mobile users. And microcel]/picocell size has small size, handover calls will be more increased. Therefore, many of mobile calls is occurred at a cell in the central urban area, so channel requests for these calls will be increased in the call. In this paper, we propose a scheme, FTC(Fault Tolerant Channel allocation) which is the channel management method for hard handover and new call in a mobile cell of central urban area. When available channels in the cell are consumed, the FTC investigates channel states of neighbor cells in the RNC(Radio Network Controller) or BSC (Base Station Center), and provide available channel for mobile call. The ]no scheme is analyzed and compared with existing channel management method by simulation.

  • If the control system that works important job fails, economical loss occurred. Hence, to guarantee high reliability, it must be duplicated. In the case of traditional duplication mechanism, dedicated operating system with duplication functions were built. This required much development and maintenance cost. They can be saved, if we use commercial operating system and its development environment.This paper proposes a duplication mechanism for the system based on commercial 0S. The system that explained in this paper is BSC(Base Station Controller). The duplicated BSC system uses concurrent write memory for synchronization and VxWorks as an operating system. We propose how the task supporting duplication functions is executed without delay and preemption, how to synchronize standby's memory with active' s, and how to use concurrent-write memory easily with VxWorks' s partition. We also describe the takeover procedure when the active detects its hardware fault and when the standby recognizes the failure of the active.
