  • A stable cell line, BSBS (black seabream spleen), was established from the cells in spleen of black seabream, Acanthopagrus schlegeli, and characterized. Subculture maintained more than 60 passages and mophologically, BSBS cell was epithelioid cell. The cells grew optimally at 20℃ in Leibovitz's L-15 medium supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum with incubation temperature of 20℃. BSBS cells supported the growth of marine birnavirus (MABV Y-6), chum salmon reovirus (CSV), spring viremia of carp virus (SVCV) and hirame rhabdovirus (HIRRV). Thus, the new cell line may be useful for studying wide range of fish viruses.

  • Some hemiplegic patients show a particular posture that pushing away from the nonaffected side of the body. A few study has been conducted of any aspect of this syndrome. But despite the lack of a scientific basis, this term is widely used in the physical therapy of hemiplegic patients. The purposes of this study was to investigate whether pusher syndrome has an adverse impact on functional outcome. Included were all acute stroke patients admitted in a months period a hospital in Seoul. The presence of pusher syndrome was assessed by a Bobath trained physical therapist. The ability of transfer was assessed by the Functional Independence Measure(FIM), Activities of daily living by the Modified Barthel Index(MBI), and standing balance by Bohannon's Standing Balance Scale(BSBS) on admission, weekly during the hospital stay, and at discharge. Pusher syndrome was found in $52.4\%$ of the left side and $50.0\%$ of the right aide hemiplegic patients. Significant differences were found in the score of transfer, ADL and standing balance between patients with and without pusher syndrome.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the antioxidant (ABTS, DPPH radical scavenging and reducing power), nitric oxide (NO)) production and anticancer activities against human cancer cells (HeLa HepG2, HT-29 and MCF-7) for methanol extracts of Glycine Semen Germinatum (Daedoowhangkeun in Korean) fermented with germinated black soybean and some bacteria. Antioxidant activities were increased by increasing the concentration of the extract at dose-dependent manner, Their activities of black soybean were higher than those of yellow soybean. Non fermented sample was slightly higher than Glycine Semen Germinatum fermented with Bacillus subtilis and lactic acid bacteria. In 1 mg/mL of the extract NO production levels were $0.374\;{\mu}M$ for yellow soybean, $0.368\;{\mu}M$ for black soybean, and $0.367\;{\mu}M$ and $0.358\;{\mu}M$ for Glycine Semen Germinatum fermented with B. subtilis and lactic acid bacteria, respectively. Methanol extract of Glycine Semen Germinatum fermented with mixture broth of lactic acid bacteria was shown to be the highest activity for anticancer activities against human cancer cells tested and their activities were exhibited in the order of HeLa > HT-29 > HepG2 > MCF-7 cell.
