Control Strategy of Transit Signal Priority by S-BRT Driveway (S-BRT 주행로별 대중교통 우선신호 제어 전략)

  • Super - Bus Rapid Transit (S-BRT), adding the advantages of urban railroads to BRT, has emerged to solve the problem of low speed and reliability of the existing BRT. Notably, the S-BRT driveway is classified into exclusive lanes and roads, as BRT, in the domestic guidelines. However, S-BRT and BRT have different operating goals and characteristics, so it is necessary to systematize the S-BRT driveway. Therefore, this study classified an S-BRT driveway into exclusive lane, shared lane with overtaking lane, and shared lane without overtaking lane based on domestic conditions. Subsequently, a control strategy for transit signal priority in each driveway was presented by the study based on the characteristics of the driveway to achieve the S-BRT target service level. Finally, the S-BRT target service level was almost achieved, and the travel speed was high and increased in the order respectively in the exclusive lane, shared lane with overtaking lane, and shared lane without overtaking lane in the study. Hence, it is important to operate a transit signal priority considering the characteristics of each driveway when operating the S-BRT. In essence, this study is expected to be used as a reference for driveway design and transit signal priority operation when introducing S-BRT in each local government in the future.

Enhanced Maximum Controllable Current Characteristics of the Corrugated p-base BRT with Varying the Process Parameters (최대제어가능전류가 향상된 Corrugated P-베이스 BRT의 공정 변수에 따른 특성 변화)

  • We investigated the maximum controllable current characteristics of the CB-BRT (Corrugated p-Base-Base Resistance Controlled Thyristor), which suppresses the snap-back effectively and increases the maximum controllable current(MCC) by employing the corrugated p-base. Experimental result shows that, when compared with conventional BRT, the MCC of the CB-BRT exhibits good stability on various process parameters. The MCC of the CB-BRT is larger than that of the conventional BRT by 50%, and the variation of the MCC in CB-BRT, caused by variation of the process parameters, is only 20% of that of the conventional BRT.

  • To alleviate the demand on private car that is constantly increasing, Busan Metropolitan City (BMC) has established Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) to revitalize public transportation. But there are no unified lane system between BRT and general bus stations, which makes off-lane turning general bus to contribute to congestion. And as the bottleneck phenomenon at entrance/exit accelerates the congestion, there has been huge dissatisfaction among commuting drivers. Therefore, this study identifies efficient methods to operate better through measuring civilian awareness. We evaluate both satisfaction and drawbacks on BRT service with Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA). We first distinguish the groups by the awareness on BRT and their main transit usage, and then clarify the difference between the groups. And as a result, the group who is positive to BRT and uses buses often demands improvement in bus indoor comfort and curbing jaywalking. On the other hand, group who is negative to BRT and uses private cars often demands improvement in lane changing and the moving speed of private cars. We next examines the groups with MDPREF, one method of Multidimensional Scaling (MDS). And we have clarified that the evaluating criteria and the individual attributes of the groups corresponds very well.

  • In this paper, we haute proposed a novel trench electrode Base Resistance Thyristor(BRT) and trench electrode BRT with a intrinsic region. New power BRTs have shown superior electrical characteristics including the snab-back effect and the forward blocking voltage more than the conventional BRT. Especially, the trench electrode BRT with the intrinsic region has obtained high blocking voltage of 1600V. The blocking voltage of conventional BRT is about 400V at the same size. Because the breakdown mechanism of the BRT is the avalanch breakdown by impact ionization, the trench electrode BRT with intrinsic region has suppressed impact ionization, effectively. If we use this principle, we can develop a super high voltage power device and it applies to another power device including IGBT, EST and etc.

  • Trench sate CB-BRT:TC-BRT의 최대 제어 가능 전류(Maximum Controllable Current)에 영향을 미치는 설계 변수들을 조사하였다. 최대 제어 가능 전류를 결정하는 중요 설계 변수들로 트렌치 깊이, 핑거 게이트 길이, 메인 게이트 길이, 트렌치 밀도를 고려하였다. TC-BRT의 실험적 결과를 기존의 BRT와 CB-BRT의 결과와 비교하였다. 최대 제어 가능 전류는 트렌치 깊이와 트렌치 밀도가 증가하고 메인 게이트 길이가 감소할수록 증가하였으며 핑거 게이트 길이에 대해서는 큰 영향을 받지 않았다. 핑거 게이트가 있는 TC-BRT가 없는 것에 비해 최대 제어 가능 전류가 약 15% 높게 나타났다. 트렌치 밀도가 작을 때는 핑거 게이트에 의한 영향이 두드러지고 트렌치 밀도가 높아질수록 트렌치 게이트의 역할이 증가하였다.

  • Metropolitan transport demand has increased in Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA) due to the expansion of its role and land use. Various public transport modes have to be supplied to relieve road congestions for the convenience of users. During the constructions of theses infrastructures some conflicts between the central government and local governments arise for sharing financial resources. In this study finance sharing criteria is developed for the metropolitan BRT, transfer facility, and public garages. Finally, a case study has been done for the metropolitan BRT between Cheongra and Hwagok area in SMA.

A Study of the Estimation of Utilities of Usage Attributes of BRT and Bimodal Tram Using Conjoint Analysis (Case of the City of Sejong) (컨조인트 분석을 이용한 BRT 및 바이모달 트램 이용 속성의 효용 산정 연구 (세종시를 중심으로))

  • PURPOSES : This study was initiated to estimate the utilities of usage attributes of BRT and Bimodal Trams using a conjoint analysis method in order to identify the important features pertaining to the use of BRT and Bimodal Trams. METHODS : For this purpose, important attributes and those level in the use of BRT and Bimodal Trams in the city of Sejong were identified. Next, a profile questionnaire pertaining to BRT and Bimodal Trams was designed for the conjoint analysis, and a survey was conducted in the city of Sejong. Using SPSS software, conjoint analysis was performed to identify the important attributes vis-$\acute{a}$-vis the use of BRT and Bimodal Trams in the city of Sejong. Finally, the utilities for individual attributes were calculated based on the models estimated by the conjoint analysis. RESULTS : The results of the conjoint analysis were used to identify the important attributes. With regard to the usage of BRT, users indicated that fare was the most important attribute with the highest utility. In the case of Bimodal Trams, the users indicated that the number of seats and internal environment were the most important attributes with the highest utilities. CONCLUSIONS : Based on the results of the conjoint analysis, the important attributes pertaining to the use of BRT and Bimodal Trams in the city of Sejong were identified. Our study indicates that BRT in the city of Sejong needs to be upgraded to improve the utilities of the important attributes. Currently, Bimodal Trams has not been introduced completely in the city of Sejong. However, in the future, when the introduction of Bimodal Trams is completed, the important attributes should be emphasized in order to improve the quality of its service.
