  • This study is the conditions of location according to formed the times in the clan village. The results of this study are as follows ; 1. in the 15th century, the characterestics of the village established residencial place where mountain stream flowed surrounded by the mountain and deep in the mountains with superior quality land. That's because Sa-dae-bu put equal importance on beautiful scenery and practical benefit for living. Stream House provided economical foundation for Sa-dae-bu to be able to keep confucial manners by putting limit their economic status to small medium sized land owner. Topographical condition such as valley or hollow separated from the exterior maintained unification of consanguineous village in self sufficient farming society and held on to independent territory against external to be able to stay away from turbulent days so that they formed residential area of Sa-dae-bu clan. And the valley where flowed clean water was considered as the connection of continuous place where distinctiveness of form in each curve and and factor of calm and dynamic scenery of the clean stream. Scholars in the middle of Chosun Dynasty located in the utopia as place for confucious retirement to study, a place for refinement by combination with the nature or as a way of spacial practice based on Confucious view of nature. 2. in the 16th-l7th century, Most of existing consanguineous villages adopt deep in the mountains for refuge. at that place, upward rank was established by settlement of the ancestor who entered in the village first, the principal was placed in the center of the village and since descendants became numerous, it was serialized as the space of descendants. So, it was arranged in the order of social rank. Most of the villages showed development step by step started from precaution by apperance of the mountain to the lower part. It's because the topography of valley around the village worked as the natural hedge against external force and genealogy of the clan, regularity of social status, order of entrance into the village were reflected into residencial destribution. Also, order of the rank coincided with the one of aspects on geomancy. Genealogical rank within the village represented spacial rank. Houses of descendants and branch families were placed lower than the principal which showed worship to the principal. 3. In 18th century after, as the village was settled nearby cultivated land considering economical loss caused by long distance between residencial area and cultivated land, direction of sect followed by development of village expanded from the front part of the village to the rear part. The principal that was poped out to the front presented frontage over exterior. Therefore, residencial area of branch families expanded to the rear starting from the principal. This represented a slice of social structure at that time. after 18th century, spirit was percieved superior over material, After then, development of cultivation and expantion of land created difference of economic strength within one village. In order to maintain and show off the status of Yang-ban, economic power of indigenous land owner became fundamental, so, sense to worship and to keep the principal became weak eventually. Taking advantage of that situation, residencial area of branch family expanded to the rear part of the principal which showed dual disposition conflicted with each other. However, these clan rules were destroyed and new rules were created after 18th century because of the situation and consciousness at that time.

  • According to Korean's geographical features of Taek Li Ji, the best location for human settlements is on the vicinity of a stream among a stream, an river and a sea, and not far from a ridge. The researcher chose one of best village which is called Yougokmaeul in Bonghwa-Gun, Kyungsang-Do. This village was created a gathering village with the same surname, can be translated as a hen and the front mountain can be seen as a rooster in the view of the shape of geographical features. As it were, the shape of this village and the cultivated land seems to be an egg inside a nest of a parent's chicken in the respect of the analogy of the theory of P'ungsuchiri which is known as Feng Shui in China and geomancy in the western world, and to effect the defensive psychology of the living environment in the terrain inland. This village is the studying place, Suckchunjungsa as the lecturing and studying place for their following students within the Chunghadonchun, the studying Yougok village, and even the ritual place performing ancestral sacrifices and the first incoming ancestor's graves in the same geographical system. The house site of the first incoming resident is surrounded the countian and is located in the front of Backsulryount which is the main mountain through Moonsu-san in the branch mountain of Korean's mountain system. Backsulryoung which is to be seen as the white peak, is symbolized the head of a hen which is to relate to a mysterious turtle in the view of P'ungsuchiri. And the pavilion which is called Chungamjung is sited on the rock of a shape of turtle which is symbolized to live longer. In the section of the mountain and water, Lee Jung Hwan mentioned a living place near the mountain stream is the best residential area and a landscape which is composed by a stream between mountains make a pleasure spirit and a bright feeling and make a refined person. If one can reach in the graceful mountain make a pleasure split and a bright feeling and make a refined person. If one can reach in the graceful mountain half day away, this kind of place must be a best living residential area to live. But this village was structured all in one place. And one of the ideas tangibly reflected in traditional Korean society's view of life and nature is the seclusion based on the Taoism. This kind of a dreamy thoughts make a dream to keep the paradise in our ancestors' mind. This kind of utopia is Chunghadonchun which is structured 5 aspects from the utopian gate near the Samgaesuewon to the village. These 5aspects is expressed by some Confucian thoughts as a small cosmos individually. On the third aspects which is the center among these aspects, the Suckchunjungsa which was made a seclusion place to devoting himself to his studies with refined tastes. The word of Jiju-am, Gangpung-dae, Jaewol-dae and Biryoung-pock are all expressed to cultivate one's moral character and to seek the truth by the Confucius'theory through the nature.

  • This study investigates the flow characteristics, such as velocity distributions, size and location of recirculation zone, longitudinal flow change rates, and bifurcation discharge ratio in the bifurcation channel by TELEMAC-2D, a 2D numerical model. The numerical model is validated by previous experimental results and the numerical results are in relatively good agreement with the experimental results, such as the water surface elevation and velocity distribution in the channels. As the inertial force and moment in the main channel decrease, the bifurcation discharge ratio increases, and the relative high velocity distribution becomes wider and the reverse velocity of the main stream decreases in the branch channel. As the bifurcation discharge ratio increases, the size of the recirculation zone in the branch channel decreases and it can be more clearly calculated by determining the point where the longitudinal froude number $Fr{\approx}0$ as well as drawing the distribution of the streamline distribution.

  • In Juam basin, the ratio of non-point pollution source among pollutant loading of basin was significantly high, since the utilization level of land was high. In addition, the most pollutants were not treated and flowed out. In this study, the correlation between non-point source pollutants from the forest area and increasing algae was investigated. 1. Chl-a concentration flowed out to runoff from forest area and stream water was low as $0.1{\sim}20.3{\mu}g/{\ell}$ and $0.1{\sim}9.3{\mu}g/{\ell}$, respectively, and chl-a concentration ($0.1{\sim}28.5{\mu}g/{\ell}$) of branch stream was higher $5{\sim}7$ times than that of runoff from forest area. 2. In correlation between runoff from forest area and Juam lake water, annual chl-a concentration of area front Juam dam was higher twice than forest area. 3. In runoff from forest area within Juam basin, flagellate, green, diatom and blue algae occupied $33.0{\sim}41.7%$, $22.2{\sim}30.8%$, $17.3{\sim}22.5%$ and $13.7{\sim}17.6%$, respectively. 4. In runoff from forest area, both green and diatom algae were maintained constantly irrespectively of season, and flagellate algae dominated since August. 5. In characteristics by forest tree types, four types algae were inhabited in mixed forest, and flagellate algae were higher in conifer and broadleaf forest than in other area. And green algae in herbaceous forest were higher than other area.

  • We surveyed on the infection status of zoonotic trematode metacercariae (ZTM) in freshwater fishes from Soyang-cheon (a branch stream of Mangyeong-gang) in Wanju-gun, Jeollabuk-do, the Republic of Korea. A total of 927 fishes were individually examined with the artificial digestion method during 2013-2015 (462 fish in 15 spp.) and 2018-2019 (465 fish in 25 spp.). Clonorchis sinensis metacercariae were detected in 207 (31.4%) out of 659 fishes in 14 positive fish species (PFS), and their mean intensity was 114 per fish infected (PFI). Metagonimus spp. metacercariae were found in 302 (37.4%) out of 808 fishes in 21 PFS, and their mean intensity was 12 PFI. Centrocestus armatus metacercariae were detected in 222 (59.0%) out of 376 fishes in 12 PFS, and their mean intensity was 383 PFI. Echinostoma spp. metacercariae were found in 139 (22.1%) out of 628 fishes in 10 PFS, and their mean intensity was 7 PFI. Clinostomum complanatum metacercariae were detected in 14 (6.5%) out of 214 fishes in 4 PFS, and their mean intensity was 2.4 PFI. Metorchis orientalis metacercariae were detected in 36 (13.5%) out of 267 fishes in 5 PFS, and their mean intensity was 4.3 PFI. Conclusively, the prevalence and infection intensity of ZTM is generally not so high in fishes from Soyang-cheon. However, those of C. sinensis metacercariae are more or less higher in 2 fish species, Pungtungia herzi and Sarcocheilichthys variegatus wakiyae.

  • In this paper, in order to eliminate Limnoperna fortunei inhabiting the water conduction pipeline, prechlorination at the intake station was employed to improve the degradation of water quality due to the high pH of raw water taken at the downstream of Paldang Dam, algal growth, etc.. With the prechlorination concentration of 1.0mg/L at the intake station, the pH in the water well at the treatment plant decreased by 0.4, and with 1.5mg/L, by 0.6. Also, it eliminated Chlorophyll-a by about 95%, and the population of algae by about 49%. Such disinfection by-products (DBPs) as Trihalomathanes (THMs), Haloacetic Acids (HAAs), and Chloral Hydrate (CH) were under the quality standard for potable water, showing no change by the prechlorination, while raising the prechlorination rate from 1.0 up to 1.5mg/L, the DBPs in the water well increased by 1.5 to 3.1 times. As a consequence of testing Kyungan Stream, a branch stream flowing into Lake Paldang, the prechlorination (0.57mg/L, 1.14mg/L, 1.71mg/L) had no effect of eliminating the taste and odor compounds and total organic carbon (TOC) which is the DBPs precursor. As for the efficiency of Geosmin elimination by the rates of prechlorination and powder activated carbonation (PAC), it was found that the higher the concentration of PAC was (30ppm>20ppm>10ppm), the higher the efficiency was; the higher the rate of prechlorination was, the lower the efficiency by PAC was. Therefore, when taste and odor occur from raw water, suspending prechlorination at the intake or lowering the rate was proved to be more effective in eliminating the taste and odor compounds by PAC.

  • Spawning behavior and early life history of the tuman river sculpin, Cottus hangiongensis were studied in the laboratory and in the field at Wangpi Stream, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea, from January to December, 2007. The spawning ground was in the lower Wangpi Stream, which is a shallow region about 40cm or less in depth. During the spawning period, from March to April, mature males made nest cavities under stone 10 which they led a gravid female. The male and female then turned upside down, and spawning and fertilization occurred onto the ceiling of the nest cavity. After spawning, the male chased the female from the nest and mated with several other females. Fertilized eggs were spherical in shape, demersal, adhesive, transparent and yellow in color, measuring 1.86 mm (1.79~1.93 mm) in diameter. A mean of 17(12~22) various-sized oil globules were counted in the yolk. Granular materials formed a mass in the yolk. Fertilized eggs hatched at 256 hrs, 10 minutes after the morula stage under water temperature of $15.0{\sim}18.0^{\circ}C$. Newly hatched larvae 9.34 mm (9.02~9.69 mm. n=10) in total length (TL) had a large yolk At 14 days after hatching, larvae 11.40 mm (11.07~11.72 mm, n=10) in TL transformed to the postlarval stage. At 41 days after hatching, postlarvae of 18.42 mm (17.31~18.62 mm, n=10) in TL had reached the juvenile stage. The result of this study indicate that Cottus hangiongensis has the spawning ground in the lower stream and the amphidromous life history which is the different from that of Cottus poecilopus.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze changes in the depositional landform in the channel of Cha-cheon, a branch stream of Nakdong river(main stream) since the artificial straight channel has been constructed in 1973. The results of analyses are as follow. First, the Cha-cheon has flooded over one time in a year, and flowed backward over three times annually, according to analyze the data of the Hyeonpoong Gauging Station of rainfall and water level during a decade(1993$\sim$2002). Second, the flood plain within the artificial straightened channel has a nearly plain profile between the small dike and last riffle(point A). Deposits thickness of flood plain reduce gradually toward upstream. Third, grain size distribution of the flood plain deposits(0$\sim$20cm) within the artificial straightened channel has a coarsening trend in downstream reach of C point. It implies that the backward flow of Nakdong river(the main stream of Cha-cheon) make effect on the depositional mechanism of lowest reach in Cha-cheon. Finally, the result of analyzing grain size distribution of the flood plain deposits(0$\sim$20cm) within the artificial straightened channel implies that the c-point is the boundary between the vertical deposition of suspended load due to the backward flow of Nakdong river and the deposition of bed load supplied from hillslope of Cha-cheon basin.

  • Gaesung city of North Korea is meaningful because of the development of Gaesung industrial complex as a peace-building project and economical cooperation works between South Korea and North Korea. This article presents the characteristics of natural landscape of Gaesung through geographical names. This research was studied by literature analysis of North Korea, depth interview of North Korean labour and refugees, and second times fieldwork. The main results of this study are as follows. Firstly, the mountain landscape of Geasung revealed on geographical names characterized mountainousness and round shape. Especially, the places where are enclosed by mountain and streams are foggy and rocky. Next the landscape of stream characterizes sandy, unstable, and tidal river. Thirdly the fauna and flora which are reflected on geographical names are hawk, snake, tiger, homed owl, snapping turtle, chestnut tree, pine tree, pear tree, zelkova tree, and willow etcetera. The environmental conditions of habitation of these are similar to the natural environment of Gaesung. Besides, the geographical names related to soil distributed in northern mountain area of Geasung. The place names implicated cliff located on the riverside. In addition to this, the geographical name of 'Bul' implicated plain distributed in the riverside of 'Seoam' which a branch stream of 'Sacheo'. And the place names related rock located in place enclosed by mountain, river, and village. In cnclusion, Gaesung is more important to us as the Gaesung industrial complex and tourism development. But the fundamental research on Gaesung is a few because Gaesung belongs to North Korea. Therefore, this research will be useful for the control and management of Gaesung in the future.

  • A total of twenty-five norfloxacin resistant Escherichia coli were isolated from Joongrang-chun stream, a branch of the Han River in Seoul, Korea from May to July in 2000 and their norfloxacin resistance mechanism was characterized for target site mutation, permeability, and efflux pump. Fourteen iso- lates contained the same three mutations, Ser83→Leu and Asp87→Asn in GyrA and Ser90→ lle in ParC. Six isolates had Ser83→Leu and Asp87→Tyr in GyrA and Ser87→lle in ParC while one isolate had Ser83→Leu and Va1103→Ala in GyrA and Ser80→lle in ParC. Two isolates had mutation(s) in GyrA without any mutation in ParC. Two isolates had Ser80→Arg in ParC instead of the commonly found Ser80→lle. Every norfloxacin resistant isolate had an efflux system but the correlation between the efflux activity and MIC was not observed. The amount of OmpF for norfloxacin permeability decreased in resistant isolates compared to the susceptible strains. When amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and pulse field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) were performed, these isolates showed no similarity to each other or clinical isolates.
