펌프용 소형 BLDC 모터의 원가절감을 고려한 회전자 최적화 설계 (Optimized Design of Rotor Considering Cost-Reduction of Small BLDC Motor for the Water Pump)

  • In the present study, a BLDC motor for a pump in which a neodymium PM is replaced with a Ferrite PM has been developed in preparation for the cost increase and to ensure the stability of the resource supply. One of the currently used motors for pumps is a BLDC motor having an interior PM wherein a rare-earth PM is adopted. However, a BLDC motor for a pump is designed to have large airgap because of the use of a waterproof insulator according to its structural characteristics, and therefore, a SPM structure is suitable. Hence, an SPM BLDC motor in which a Ferrite PM is used is designed. Nevertheless, the use of Ferrite instead of rare-earth materials causes a deterioration in the performance of the electric motor, such as a decrease in the BEMF and the maximum power of the motor and the irreversible demagnetization of the PM. In order to mitigate such disadvantages, an optimized design of the BLDC motor is developed by changing each design parameter and by improving the electromagnetism structure.

  • 본 논문에서는 BLDC 모터로 구동되는 오일 펌프 제어 시스템을 설계하고 구현하는 문제를 다룬다. 제안된 오일 펌프는 하이브리드 차량에 장착되어 엔진 클러치와 변속기에 충분한 양의 작동유를 공급하는 역할을 한다. BLCD 모터로 구동되는 제어기를 단순화하여 전원 전압을 PWM 방식으로 직접 제어하는 일반적인 방법을 사용함으로써 응답성 및 정확성을 향상시키는 것을 주목적으로 한다. 제안된 제어 기법은 오일 펌프 장치의 효율성과 신뢰성을 높인다. BLCD 모터의 회전과 오일 펌프 가동 실험을 실시하여 제안된 기법의 성능을 검증한다.

  • 본 연구에서는 자동차 송풍장치용 slotless Outer Rotor BLDC 모터를 설계하고 제작하여 기존의 모터들의 단점을 개선하였다. 제안된 모터는 Brush를 제거하여 회전 시 DC 모터의 기계적 마찰에 의한 소음을 해결하고, 구조적으로 Slotless Air-Gap 권선을 사용하여 BLDC 모터 슬롯에 의해 발생되는 코깅 토크를 개선하였다. 그리고 외부 회전자에 Magnet을 부착시키고 내부 회전자와 동시에 회전하기 때문에 자속의 변화가 생기지 않아 구조적으로 철손을 원천적으로 줄여 높은 효율을 가진다.

  • This paper investigates reduction of acoustic noise and cogging torque in a BLDC motor with larger stator slot open width. Using energy method, cogging torque is analytically determined with airgap MMF function and airgap permeance function and confirmed by FEM analysis. It shows that the cogging torque is firstly governed by NL GNL BNL with the fundamental period of NL, where NL is the least common multiple of the number of slots and the number of poles, GNL, airgap permeance function and BNL, airgap MMF function. It also shows that there exist several tooth width which minimizes the cogging torque, for the motors that smaller slot open width or stator teeth notching is not available. And it proposes a teeth pairing with two different tooth width which can effectively eliminate the cogging torque and thus the acoustic noise. Experimental results show that the proposed teeth pairing reduces the cogging torque by 85% and the acoustic noise by 3.1dB.

Structural Design for Vibration Reduction in Brushless DC Stator

  • Reducing the noise and vibration of the BLDC motors is very essential for some special applications. In this paper, a new structural design is introduced to increase the natural frequencies of the stator in BLDC motors as increasing the natural frequencies can reduce the severe effects of the structural resonances, including high levels of noise and vibration. The design is based on placing a single hole on definite regions at the stator cross sectional area (each region contains one tooth and its upper parts in the stator yoke) in an optimum way by which the natural frequencies at different modes are shifted to the higher values. The optimum diameter and locations for the holes are extracted by the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and the modal analyses in the iterative process are done by Finite Element Method (FEM). Moreover, the motor performance by the optimum stator structure is analyzed by FEM and compared with the prototype motor. Preventing the stator magnetic saturation and the motor cogging torque enhancement are the two constraints of the optimization problem. The optimal structural design method is applied experimentally and the validity of the design method is confirmed by the simulated and experimental results.

Novel PWM Method with Low Ripple Current for Position Control Applications of BLDC Motors

  • BLDC Motors are widely used in various speed control applications due to their ease of control and low cost. Generally, the unipolar PWM method is used for speed control applications. However, the unipolar PWM method has a current spike problem in the braking operation which can be a problem in speed reversal which generally happens in position control applications. However, the current spike problem can be solved by the conventional bipolar PWM method. Although the current spike problem can be solved, the conventional bipolar PWM method has the problem of a large current ripple. In this paper, a novel bipolar PWM method is proposed to solve this problem. The current ripple and the current spike problems are analyzed in this paper for the unipolar and bipolar PWM methods. At last, the merits of the proposed bipolar PWM method are proven by experiment.

HDD 스핀들 모터의 초기 구동 제어에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Start-up Control for HDD Spindle Motors)

  • A HDD adopts a sensorless brushless DC (BLDC) motor as a spindle motor. Because there is no direct sensor measuring rotor position. open loop commutations with inductive sensing are used to increase the rotor speed up to a certain speed where the zero crossings of the back electromotive force (EMF) voltage are measurable. Therefore, successful open loop commutations are necessary for the stable start-up control of the spindle motors. In this paper, the time scale and the number of the open loop commutations are employed for design parameters to guarantee robustness to torque constant variation and initial rotor position. The design results are verified by experiments on a very low current start-up of the spindle motor with various environment. The experimental results show that the design results can decrease the start-up failure rate considerably.

  • Cogging torque is often a principal source of vibration, noise and difficulty of control in permanent-magnet brushless DC motors. Cogging torque can be minimized by sinusoidal air-gap flux density waveform because it is produced by the interaction of the rotor magnetic flux and angular variation in the stator magnetic reluctance. Therefore, this paper will present a design method of magnetization system of bonded isotropic neodynium-iron-boron(Nd-Fe-B) magnets in ring type with sinusoidal air-gap flux density distribution and low manufacturing cost. An analytical technique of magnetization makes use of two-dimensional finite element method(2D FEM) and Preisach model that expresses the hysteresis phenomenon of magnetic materials in order for accurate calculation.

  • Brushless do motors have been replacing brush type motors in machine tool and robotics applications over the last number of years This Paper deals with the design and application of the slot-less permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The slot-less PMSM eliminates rotational cogging torque due to permanent magnet preferred positions decreases core loss and thus increases efficiency, provides excellent torque-to-volume and power-to-volume ratios, and has a linear current versus torque relation. The PMSM with slot-less stator is designed and manufactured, which will be used for high speed and high efficiency application such a medical instruments.

  • This paper presents the analysis method to predict the current waveform and instantaneous and average torque of permanent magnet brushless motors(BLDC). In this paper, the method to improve the torque characteristics of BLDC, especially phase advanced angle, is also presented. The validity of this method is verified by comparing to measured results.
