  • SMARTPHONE has become a big issue in South Korea and worldwide. In this work we will propose techniques that display web contents according to user preference and service provider' interest for small screen devices such as smartphones. A number of works and research have been conducted to generate suitable web contents for small screen devices. But such previous attempts have not failed to reflect the interest of users and service providers. Our proposed system simulates the Google Android Emulator, which is a free and well known open source.

  • Switch losses directly affect the efficiency of power conversion systems and those have big differences according to the power consumed by load systems and the structures of power conversion circuits. In this paper, analyses for switch losses in DC link converter are performed based on the circuit structures of the DC/DC converter in photovoltaic generation system whose output power is varied according to the amount of solar radiation, temperature and partial shade on the solar modules. Boost converter is adopted as a DC link converter topology of the photovoltaic generation system and the loss analyses for the switches used in the boost converters are performed according to the circuit structures. Analyses like the things performed in this paper will be a prerequisite to designing the photovoltaic generation system whose output power is changed according to the environmental variations.

  • Nowadays, crowdsourcing has become a popular concept and is widely used in many social, economical and technological areas. For consumer product design, crowdsourcing is implemented extensively with many cases. Although there has been a lot of research on the application of crowdsourcing for product design, the big picture of how factors influence the participartion of individuals from the crowd in a crowdsourcing project for product design has not yet been understood. This paper aims to investigate the relationships of crowd participation and influencing factors including: process, product, and reward. To do this, we conducted a survey on a crowd of engineering individuals and analyzed the collected data with data mining techniques. Main findings include the relationships of crowd participation versus process, product, and reward factors as well as regression models to predict crowd participation.

  • This paper introduces two platforms created by the development team at CORE studio, Thornton Tomasetti's global innovation studio. Collaborative platforms change the way that parties communicate and develop projects. Wikipedia is one of many great examples for a platform that supports collaborative development of a product - the world's largest encyclopedia. In the AEC industry, no such platform exists that can be used for collaborative development of a building project, and hence, information exchange between the parties involved, and modeling programs used in a project is slow and opaque. The platforms introduced in this paper allow for much greater transparency at all stages of the building design process, and hence improve the flow of information between parties involved in the process, both firm-internal and external. While traditionally, the use of a large number of different modeling and analysis platforms is hard to manage by a project team; this paper introduces methods that strengthen the design process by using a multitude of programs needed in the different building design phases.

  • Neural networks have been reborn as a Deep Learning thanks to big data, improved processor, and some modification of training methods. Neural networks used to initialize weights in a stupid way, and to choose wrong type activation functions of non-linearity. Weight initialization contributes as a significant factor on the final quality of a network as well as its convergence rate. This paper discusses different approaches to weight initialization. MNIST dataset is used for experiments for comparing their results to find out the best technique that can be employed to achieve higher accuracy in relatively lower duration.

  • Existing web applications and services have historically been implemented using JavaScript. However, new technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and Big Data are being developed as part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. With the definition of the HTML5 web standard, services (such as the technologies mentioned above) that were previously not available through the Web become available. These services, however, need to have the same performance as native applications, and implementing these services will require new technologies. Therefore, additional tools that can work on the Web with native performance are needed. In this paper, a system for branching processing was established using JavaScript and WebAssembly, a language that can operate on the Web. This system performs user requests in advance, and requests are branched in a language that produces faster results. Therefore, a service capable of quick response times can be implemented.

  • This paper examines the persistent properties of 12 sectoral relative prices between Korea and Japan obtained following the Classification of Individual Consumption according to Purpose (COICOP) over the period of 1985-2016. Applying a new econometric method developed by Pesaran which controls for the cross-section dependence in a panel, we are not able to reject the hypothesis that the sectoral real exchange rates contain a common stochastic trend. On the other hand, the well-known panel unit root tests such as the IPS and LLC tests widely used by previous studies strongly reject the unit root hypothesis. Since the error term of the regression for our panel exhibits significant cross-section dependence, these opposite results justify that the use of the new econometric method is appropriate.

  • Entropy is an important term in statistical mechanics that was originally defined in the second law of thermodynamics. In this paper, we consider the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE), maximum product spacings estimation (MPSE) and Bayesian estimation of the entropy of an inverse Weibull distribution (InW) under a generalized type I progressive hybrid censoring scheme (GePH). The MLE and MPSE of the entropy cannot be obtained in closed form; therefore, we propose using the Newton-Raphson algorithm to solve it. Further, the Bayesian estimators for the entropy of InW based on squared error loss function (SqL), precautionary loss function (PrL), general entropy loss function (GeL) and linex loss function (LiL) are derived. In addition, we derive the Lindley's approximate method (LiA) of the Bayesian estimates. Monte Carlo simulations are conducted to compare the results among MLE, MPSE, and Bayesian estimators. A real data set based on the GePH is also analyzed for illustrative purposes.

  • Since the modern computer architecture was suggested by Von Neumann in 1945, computer has become inevitable for our life. This brilliant growth of computer has been led by device miniaturization trend, so called Moore's law. Especially, the explosive growth of memory devices such as DRAM and Flash have played key role in huge enlarging utilization of computer. However, abrupt increase of data used for many applications in big data era provoke the excessive energy consumption of data center which results from the inefficiency of conventional memory-storage hierarchy. As a solution, the application of new memory devices has been brought up for innovative memory-storage hierarchy. In this paper, the current development status and prospect of new memory devices will be discussed.
