  • This study explores aesthetics and materials used in domestic and international hanger designs from 1850 to 2003. At the second half of the nineteenth century, most hangers were handmade and made of wood and metal. At the first half of the twentieth century, such diverse materials as paper, plastics, and leather began to use other than such typical materials as wood and metal at the previous decades. However, from the second half of the twentieth century the use of different types of plastics led to artistic abnormal shapes within typical triangular types. Moreover, this study also examines hangers by its functions: primary, portable, and multi-functional types.

  • Ten years ago most papermakers were convinced that a system needs to be voluminous and heavy for controllability and stability. In order to improve grade changing dynamics, the author of this paper began developing a compact papermachine wet end. The results have proven that compactness is beneficial even more broadly. Quoting Voith$^1$the trend is now the opposite - the systematic collecting and direct feeding of the individual water flows back into the system". In its gasless form this is actually covered by a POM Technology Patent.tent.

  • This paper discusses how the concept of "bilingualism" can be used to reflect changes within Bruneian society since the 1940's. It argues that within the context of a linguistically diverse population, the various indigenous groups of Brunei used to speak their own traditional languages, but eventually learned to speak the language of the politically dominant Malays. The Malay language became a necessary additional language, hence leading to a population which could speak their own languages, alongside the Malay language. But the rise of schools teaching in English in the 1970's began to sow seeds of a different kind of bilingualism, encouraged by language shift processes among ethnic minority groups.
