  • The main goal of this study is to develop MATLAB programming for an analysis of distortional deformations and stresses of the straight box girder. For this purpose, a distortional deformation theory is firstly summarized and then a BEF (Beam on Elastic Foundation) theory is presented using analogy of the corresponding variables. Finally, with governing equations of the beam-column element on elastic foundation, an exact element stiffness matrix of the beam element and nodal forces equivalent to concentrated and distributed loads are evaluated via a generalized linear eigenvalue problem. In order to verify the efficiency and accuracy of this method, distortional stresses of box girders with multiple diaphragms are presented and compared with results by FEA.

Finally, the governing equation of the beam-column element on elastic foundation is derived. An element stiffness matrix of the beam element is established via a generalized linear eigenvalue problem. In order to verify the efficiency and accuracy of the element using exact dynamic stiffness matrix, buckling loads for the continuous beam structures with elastic foundation and distortional deformations of box girders are calculated.

  • The aim of this study is focused on getting an almost exact solution which is the simplicity and exactness of an axisymmetrically loaded cylindrical shell. This method replaces the finite element method which is a very powerful tool for analysis of any kind of structure which has an arbitrary shape, but is still a numerical analysis. Instead, this study uses the method of distribution of end actions which is a kind of iteration technique to implement the leading matrix method. The distribution and carry-over factors of a cylinder are calculated by the theory of a differential equation of a beam on an elastic foundation. The results are satisfactory when this method is applied to a cylinder that is subjected to a concentrated load and hydrostatic pressure when compared with the BEF analogy separately.
