The Development and Implementation of Ward Monitoring Service Using Bluetooth Low Energy Scanners for Infectious Disease Response (감염병 대응 비콘 스캐너 기반의 병실 모니터링 서비스 개발)

  • This study attempted to develop a beacon scanner based ward monitoring service in order to respond to the new paradigm of medical environment which is trying to introduce ICT technology as medical service to track and manage the spread path of large infectious diseases such as MERS. The study also included beacon hardware development, firmware development for the beacon low-power bluetooth 4.0, and server and web-based dashboard UI development. Using these, we have developed a customized monitoring system that provides functions such as locating patients by location based service and monitoring based on web UI. It is possible to maximize the efficiency of offline hospital services and to value active infection control and patient safety by integrating online technology into the area where online technologies such as beacons are not properly integrated.

  • MSAS satellite is the geostationary satellite for realizing WADGPS that can get the position of moving object in a wide area receiving the correction signal created from a ground using satellite. In this study, we analyzed two different data. One is using the correction signal transmitted from MTSAT-2 satellite of MSAS and the other is receiving the data of DGPS using BEACON receiver. As we compared both data, we could get the conclusion that the position accuracy of both data is also can get up to the standard or the conventional real-time code DGPS. As a result, we can expect that if we use MTSAT-2 satellite and BEACON receiver together, we can apply them LBS part that require real-time data or the obtaining geospatial information that does not require high accuracy much regardless of topography.

Low-Latency Beacon Scheduling Algorithms for Vehicular Safety Communications (차량간 안전 통신에서 짧은 지연시간을 보장하는 비콘 스케줄링 알고리즘)

  • The safety applications based on the IEEE 802.11p, periodically transmit the safety-related information to all surrounding vehicles with high reliability and a strict timeline. However, due to the high vehicle mobility, dynamic network topology and limited network resource, the fixed beacon scheduling scheme excess delay and packet loss due to the channel contention and network congestion. With this motivation, we propose a novel beacon scheduling algorithm referred to as spatial-aware(SA) beacon scheduling based on the spatial context information, dynamically rescheduling the beaconing rate like a TDMA channel access scheme. The proposed SA beacon scheduling algorithm was evaluated using different highway traffic scenarios with both a realistic channel model and 802.11p model in our simulation. The simulation results showed that the performance of our proposed algorithm was better than the fixed scheduling in terms of throughput, channel access delay, and channel load. Also, our proposed algorithm is satisfy the requirements of vehicular safety application.

  • Recently, indoor location detection has become an important area in the IoT (Internet of Things) environment for various indoor location-based services. In this paper, our proposed method shows that a virtual region can be divided electromagnetically according to specific facilities or services in various IoT application areas called zones. The MLP (Multi-Layer Perceptron) method is applied to recognize the service zone at the current position. The MLP utilized an RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) signal of the BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) Beacon as input data and made decisions to affiliate the zone of the current region as output. In order to verify the proposed method, we constructed an experimental environment similar in size to an actual rail station using four of the beacon and two zones.

A Study on Localization System using 3D Triangulation Algorithm based on Dynamic Allocation of Beacon Node (비컨노드의 동적배치 기반 3차원 삼각측량 알고리즘을 적용한 위치인식 시스템에 대한 연구)

  • The three-dimensional triangulation algorithm that the beacon nodes can be allocated to dynamically in not the experimental region but the practical region is suggested, and the performance of the localization system adapting the suggested algorithm is analyzed. The suggested algorithm adapts the computation method of the three dimensional point that the surfaces of three spheres overlapped, while the traditional triangulation algorithm adapts the computation method of the two dimensional point that three circles are overlapped in order to compute the distance between beacon nodes and mobile node that means a radius. In addition to this, to analyze the performance of the localization system adapting the suggested algorithm, first of all, the allocation layout of beacon nodes is made, and the allocation layout is modeled by selection of ten random distance values between mobile node and beacon nodes for computer simulation of the practical model. Next, the two dimensional coordinator of mobile node that is calculated by the suggested algorithm and the traditional triangulation algorithm is compared with each other. The localization measuring performance about three dimensional coordinator(z axis) of the suggested algorithm is also obtained by comparing with that of the practical model.

  • In this paper, we propose a taxi safety support system using the beacon device to reduce the anxiety and increase the satisfaction of taxi passengers. At first, we design a USB-type low power beacon device that can be easily installed inside a taxi and propose a distance and estimation method using beacon signal strength. Mobile applications for passengers and drivers based on beacon signals are developed. The server operation program for situation recognition, position estimation, risk management and notification of the taxi passenger is also developed. An accident risk management method is proposed using the recognition of getting on and off of the taxi passenger. The proposed methods are verified for applicability and usefulness through practical experiments.

Theft Prevention Technology for Smart Stroller using Distance Measurement of Dual Beacon (듀얼 비콘의 거리측정을 활용한 스마트 유모차용 도난방지 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a theft prevention technology based on beacon and smart device for smart stroller. The smart stroller has two Bluetooth devices. One is for data transmission and the other is for distance measurement as beacon. Thus, smart device uses a Bluetooth for strength level setting, manual locking and data transmission of smart stroller. Furthermore, smart device can do automatic locking of smart stroller using Bluetooth beacon when the stroller go further away from smart device. At this time, we apply a distance measurement algorithm and theft prevention algorithm with improved beacon distance measurement technique. To show usefulness of the proposed technology, we make a smart stroller and developed a smart device application. We did two distance measurement experiments and a theft prevention experiment with the proposed technology and the result shows 91.3% accuracy for theft prevention. Therefore, the proposed technology would be more usefulness technology for smart stroller.

Design of Indoor Location-based IoT Service Platform

  • In this paper, among short-range wireless communication technologies such as Beacon, Bluetooth, UWB (Ultra-wideband), ZigBee, NFC (Near Field Communication), Z-Wave, 6LoWPAN (IPv6 over Low power WPAN), D2D (Device to Device), etc., proposed an IoT service platform based on a beacon that can provide indoor positioning. And, a beacon-linked web server was designed by blocking indiscriminate beacon spam signals and applying REST web service technology with flexibility and scalability. Data accessibility between different devices was verified by testing the success rate of data transmission, the success rate of blocking beacon push, the success rate of IoT interlocking processing, the accuracy of location positioning, and the success rate of REST web service-based data processing. Through the designed IoT service platform, various proposals and research on short-distance-based business models and service platforms will be conducted in the future.

  • Nowadays, various digital maps on a reduced scale were drawn in Korea including the topographic series of a nation. Though these digital maps are drawn and revised by using aerial photograph or satellite image, there are some problems that it is difficult to revise or renew the topography and natural feature immediately which changes frequently. As the countermeasures of these problems we use GPS accumbency method, which provides user with convenience and accumbency accuracy which is required to revise and renew digital maps. But acquiring correct position by using GPS only may cause not a few errors because of environmental effect of satellite signal errors that GPS obtains. Although accumulated errors which is the major problem of existing method was diminished owing to the position signal received from satellite which is about 20,183km above, the area that can not receives the signal is occur such as woods and high-rise buildings space. And because of the GDOP (Geometry Dilution of Precision) of GPS satellite and the periodically changing orbit of the satellite, the position calculating problems occur. For settlement of these problems and accurate position determination, DGPS (Differential GPS) is indispensably needed. So, in this study, by adapting Radio Beacon Receiver for marine position determination which is the most convenience method of DGPS methods, we elevated accuracy of modification and renewal of digital map and, having wide application in various measurements, proposed the rapid measurement method about widespread area. In this study, wewant to propose the work scheme of rapid modification and renewal of digital map by using Beacon GPS which is comparatively cheap of all the DGPS methods and which makes it possible to measure independently.

Signal Coverages of DGPS Beacon Stations in Korea (우리나라 DGPS 보정국의 위치보정신호의 이용범위)

  • For the purpose of comparison between the designed coverage and actual coverage of Korean DGPS (Differential Global Position System) beacon stations, we have received the ship‘s positions with states and IDs of their stations on the navigation route of Jeju-Tianjin by automatic selection mode of DGPS receiver and on them of Jeju-Inchun and Jeju-Vladibostok by manual mode. Also in case that some obstructions were on propagation routes from DGPS beacon stations to receiving positions, a restriction on available ranges of DGPS beacon signals was investigated. The results obtained are as follows : 1. The coverage of Korean DGPS beacon stations was designed 100NM (Nautical mails) at 40.0dB(over ${\mu}$V/m). But the actual coverages of them according to their stations and propagation routes were 0.3-3.6 times as wide as designed coverage. 2. In case that the propagation route of beacon signals from DGPS beacon stations was on the sea, the propagation distance of north direction from the stations was longer than south direction. 3. The coverages of Echongdo and Ulungdo stations were 366NM on the yellow sea and 342.3NM on the east sea of Korea respectively, and were widest than any other stations. 4. The coverage of Marado station on the south and yellow seas of Korea was very unstable because of the Halla mountain on the propagation route. Maximum receiving range to be measured by automatic selection mode of DGPS receiver was 145NM on the route of Jeju-Tianjin on June 22-July 1, 2002. Minimum receiving range to be not measured by manual selection mode was 28.7NM on the route of Jeju-Inchun on June 26-28, 2003
