  • The saccharogenic liquid (SFW) obtained by the enzymatic saccharification of food wastes was used as a medium for production of bacterial cellulose (BC). The enzymatic saccharification of food wastes was carried out by the cultivation supernatant of Trichoderma harziaum FJ1 culture. Acetobacter xylinum KJ1 was employed for the BC production culture. The physical properties, such as polymerization, crystallinity, Young's modulus, and tensile strength, of BCs produced by three culture methods: the static cultures using HS (Hestrin-Schramm) as a reference medium (A) or the SFW medium (B), the shaking culture (C) or the air circulation culture (D) using the SFW medium, were investigated. The degrees of polymerization of BCs produced under the different culture conditions (A-D) showed 11000, 9500, 8500, and 9200, respectively. Young's modulus was 4.15, 5.0, 4.0, and 4.6 GPa, respectively. Tensile strength was 124, 200, 80, and 184 MPa, respectively. All of the BC had a form of cellulose I representing pure cellulose. In the case of the shaking culture, the degree of crystallinity was 51.2%, the lowest degree. Under the other culturing conditions, the trend should remain in the range of 89.7-84%. Overall, the physical properties of BC produced from SFW were similar to those of BC from HS medium, a commercial complex medium, and BC production by the air circulation culture mode brought more favorable results in terms of the physical properties and its ease of scale-up. Therefore, it is expected that a new BC production method, like air circulation culture using SFW, would contribute greatly to BC-related manufacturing.

  • Brushless DC(BLDC) motor have been increasingly used in machine tools and robotics applications due to the reliability and the efficiency. In control of BLDC motor, it is important to construct the controller which is robust to parameter variations and external disturbances. Variable structure controller(VSC) has been known as a powerful tool in robust control of time varying systems. In practical systems, however, VSC has a high frequency chattering which deteriorates system performances. In this paper, a binary controller(BC) which takes the form of VSC and MRAC combined is presented to solve this problem. BC consists of the primary loop controller and the external loop controller to change the gain of primary loop controller smoothly. So it can generate the continuous control input and is insensitive to parameter variations in the given domain. To confirm the validity, various investigations of control characteristics for various design parameters in a position control system of BLDC motor are carried out. • In this paper, a low-power direct-conversion transmitter based on current-mode operation, which satisfies the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, is proposed and implemented in a $0.13{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The proposed transmitter consists of DACs, LPFs, variable gain I/Q up-conversion mixer, a divide-by-two circuit with LO buffer, and a drive amplifier. By combining DAC, LPF, and variable gain I/Q up-conversion mixer with a simple current mirror configuration, the transmitter's power consumption is reduced and its linearity is improved. The drive amplifier is a cascode amplifier with gain controls and the 2.4GHz I/Q differential LO signals are generated by a divide-by-two current-mode-logic (CML) circuit with an external 4.8GHz input signal. The implemented transmitter has 30dB of gain control range, 0dBm of maximum transmit output power, 33dBc of local oscillator leakage, and 40dBc of the transmit third harmonic component. The transmitter dissipates 10.2mW from a 1.2V supply and the die area of the transmitter is $1.76mm{\times}1.26mm$.

  • We fabricated PIN-Photodiodes with a single mode fiber for analog communications and analyzed characteristics of the devices. The fabricated PIN-Photodiode shows a bandwidth of 1.5 GHz, a dark current of 20 p4 a capacitance of 0.48 pF, and the responsivity of 0.9 V/W, a second order distortion of -72 dBc. In this paper, we developed a new optical Packaging technology that is aligning in real-time monitoring of both responsivity and IM2 characteristics. As a result responsivity has been improved by 0.03 V/W, and also U has been improved by $3\~5\;dBc$. On the other hand, failure ratio has been reduced by $3.5\%$.

  • In this paper, W-band Waveform Generator for compact radar has been designed and fabricated. DDS (Direct Digital Synthesizer) is applied to generate CW (Continuous Wave) and FMCW (Frequency Modulation Continuous Wave) waveform at high speed. We designed two LO (Local Oscillator) paths for functions of distance delay and distance tracking tests at the prpposed system without extra test equipment. Two mode selections are provided by switch. It is observed that fabricated waveform generator performs -91 dBc/Hz phase noise at offset 1 kHz and -63.2 dBc spurious. Proposed W-band Waveform Generator is expected to apply for W-band compact radar transceiver module.

  • In this paper, a 18 GHz oscillator is designed with the push-push method an fabricated by semi-MMIC process, in which the second harmonic is the main output signal with the suppressed fundamental mode. In semi-MMIC process, passive components with microstrip transmission line are implemented using MMIC process on semi-insulating GaAs substrate. Then, chip types of P-HEMT, resistors, and capacitors are connected through Au wire-bonding. Also, the ground plane is inserted around the circuit and connected each other with the back-side of substrate through Au wire-bonding instead of via-hole. The semi-MMIC push-push oscillator shows the output powder of -10.5 dBm, the fundamental frequency suppression of -17.3 dBc/Hz, and the phase noise of -97.9 dBc/Hz at the offset frequency of 100 kHz.

  • A robust all-fiber nonlinear amplifying loop-mirror-based mode-locked femtosecond laser is demonstrated. Power-dependent nonlinear phase shift in a Sagnac loop enables stable and power-efficient mode-locking working as an artificial saturable absorber. The pump power is adjusted to achieve the lowest intensity noise for stable long-term operation. The minimum pump power for mode-locking is 180 mW, and the optimal pump power is 300 mW. The lowest integrated root-mean-square relative intensity noise of a free-running mode-locked laser is 0.009% [integration bandwidth: 1 Hz-10 MHz]. The long-term repetition-rate instability of a free-running mode-locked laser is 10-7 over 1,000 s averaging time. The repetition-rate phase noise scaled at 10-GHz carrier is -122 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz Fourier frequency. The demonstrated method can be applied as a seed source in high-precision real-time mid-infrared molecular spectroscopy.

  • This paper presents a dual-mode amplifier which operates as amplifier or frequency multiplier according to the input frequency. It satisfies the 802.11a/b/g frequency band of wireless LAN standard. A conventional dual-band wireless LAN transmitter consists of the separating power amplifiers operating at each frequency band, but the proposed dual-mode amplifier operates as an amplifier for the 802.11b/g signal and as a frequency multiplier for the 802.11a signal according to each LAN bias condition. The amplifier mode shows the gain of 13dB, the PldB of 17dBm and second harmonic suppression of below -37dBc. And the frequency-doubler mode shows the gain of 3.3dB, the output power of 7.3dBm and third harmonic suppression of below -50dBr.

  • A dual loop optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) based on an acousto-optic modulator (AOM) for single mode operation with an acousto-optic delay line is demonstrated in this paper. When the OEO operates, the free spectral range is a function of the total loop length of the OEO, which is mainly dependent on the propagation time of the acoustic wave in the AOM. Due to the huge difference in the magnitude between the speed of light and the acoustic velocity in the AOM, the effective loop length converted to light-propagation length of the OEO increases to 3.8 km. With 150 MHz oscillation frequency, phase noise of -118 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz frequency offset, and -140 dBc/Hz at 200 kHz frequency offset, is achieved.
