  • The fiat fluorescent lamp(FFL) can be used to the LCD bat]flighting. In order to evaluate the discharge characteristics of FFL firing voltage, discharge current, luminance and CIE chromaticity with frequency were measured. The experimental results show that firing voltage decreased with increasing the frequency, discharge current increased with increasing the frequency. Luminance of FFL using Xe gas shown $2700\;cd/m^2$ in 700V rms, 80 kHz.

  • We observed Ultra-Long GRB 111209A using NASA's 3m InfraRed Telescope Facility (IRTF). The observation was started around 40 min later than T0 = 07:12:08 UT of Swift's BAT, lasted for 24 min. The spectrum was extracted using Spextool package. The NIR SEDs show power law distribution indicating afterglow emission from the GRB according to the fireball model with beta ~ 1.2. Also they do not show thermal emission component compared to the SED of "Christmas burst" GRB 101225A. Because there is no other NIR data with this observation epoch, this data can be compared only with TAROT-R band. It seems NIR data has the same flare which exists in R band as an optical flare.

  • The dyeing sludge is the major waste generated in Banwol & Sihwa Industrial Complex. The Purpose of this study is to develop BAT (Best available technique) for the treatment and recycling of dyeing sludge. The dyeing sludge was carbonized and the product was tested physical properties and chemical chracterizations and also analyzed chemical compositions. From the test results we expect that the products can be used as adsorbent for the removal of order in the poultry farm and cattle shed. The feasibility of other methods such as manufature of RDF and cement etc. were also studied.

  • Dan-chung had many great traditional patterns of Korea. By investigating its patterns, which comprise the integral part of the formative features, and analyzing the aesthetic characteristics and formative beauty, the foundation was set to use the patterns as the motives of art makeup works. A focus was made on the basic elements, compositions and symbolic meanings of Dan-chung patterns. The representative patterns that were used a lot in Dan-chung made the motives of the four art make-up designs, which tried to integrate the aesthetic senses of the Dan-chung patterns into the art makeup venues. The four patterns were each based on the phoenix, bat, ghost face, and crane. The major colors used were white, black, red, blue and yellow, which were also the cardinal Five Colors of Dan-chung. They were changed in terms of luminosity and coma and manipulated to make harmony with intermediate colors so that the designs would ooze out the Korean aesthetic senses.

  • An optical modulator with CPW(coplanar waveguide) electode on Ti:LiNbO$_{3}$ optical waveguide wasfabricated and characterized. The electrical-optical bandwidth measurement showed an optical response of -3dBat 10 GHzand S$_{11}$ lessthan -10dB upto 20GHz. The typeical specifications are : 5.6V of driving voltage, 4.2dB of insertion loss and 30dB of on/off extinction. The eye pattern proved that the optical meduator, fabricated in this work, has properties good enough for application.

  • We use a Markov chain model to analyze the Korean Baseball League. We derive the distributions of the number of runs scored and the number of batters that complete their turn at bat in a baseball game using the time inhomogeneous Markov chain. The model is tested with real data produced from the 2011 Korean Baseball League.

  • Between May and September 2014, a total of 226 serotine bats (Eptesicus serotinus) were captured and subsequently released at a site 50 km distant from the site of capture, in order to determine the homing ability of the bats and changes in the homing rate according to the season. The bats were captured from a nursery colony at a bridge in An-dong (Gyeongbuk, Korea), and then released at a similar site in Yeong-Ju (Gyeongbuk, Korea). We found that 115 of the 226 bats released (51%) returned to the capture site. However, there was a difference in the homing ability of the serotine bats depending on the season and reproductive status. We found that the homing rate was the highest in June during late pregnancy and the lowest in August after the lactation period.

  • One of the most recent methods of structural damage identification is using the difference between structures responses after and before damage occurrence. To do this one can formulate the damage detection problem as an inverse optimization problem where the extents of damage in each element are considered as the optimizations variables. To optimize the objective function, heuristic methods such as GA, PSO etc. are widely utilized. In this paper, inspired by animals such as bat, dolphin, oilbird, shrew etc. that use echolocation for finding food, a new and efficient method, called Echolocation Search Algorithm (ESA), is proposed to properly identify the site and extent of multiple damage cases in structural systems. Numerical results show that the proposed method can reliably determine the location and severity of multiple damage cases in structural systems.

  • The contact analyses of arbitrary shaped spatial bodies are important in the study of multi-body dynamics. This paper presents a method fur calculating contact force between bodies in space. At each integration time step, the proposed method finds potential contact points on bodies and then calculates the penetration, the velocity of penetration, and the contact force. A continuous analysis method is adopted to calculate the contact force. To get contact points accurately on their outlines, a new algorithm is developed. The proposed algorithm is tested and compared the results of DADS. As applications, the contact of two steel balls, spatial pendulums, and the problem of a ball and bat are demonstrated.
