Effects of Paper Bag Coated Calcium on the Calcium Concentration, Lenticel Development, and Quality in 'Chuhwangbae' Pear Fruits (칼슘이 코팅된 봉지 괘대가 '추황배' 과실의 칼슘함량, 과점 발달 및 과실품질에 미치는 영향)

  • In a pear fruit 'Chuhwangbae' was investigated the effect of the calcium-coated double paper bag on the physical properties of the paper bag, micro meteorological phenomena, and calcium contents in quality of fruit. The calcium-coated paper bag, compared with official paper bags, did not give any effect on light transmission ratio and tensile strength. The change of the inside relative humidity of the paper bag was a little compared with conventional paper bags, but there was no difference in temperature. The contents of the accumulated calcium of the pericarp was remarkably greater than conventional paper bags during the period of 65 days to 160 days after the full bloom, but the flesh remarkably increased at 160 days. The calcium content per concentration of calcium coating greatly increased in 12% of yellow double paper bags and 9, 12% of newspaper double paper bags in case of the pericarp, and in 3% of yellow double paper bags and 6, 9, 12% of newspaper double paper bags in case of the pericarp. As a result of treatment of a radioactive isotope, the amount of accumulated calcium in the pericarp continued until 60 hours after treatment, but there was no difference in the calcium amount between the flesh and no-treatment pericarp. As to the hardness of fruits at the time of harvest, there was no difference in the concentration in case of a yellow double bags. But newspaper double paper bags 6, 12% was significantly difference. Soluble solid remarkably increased in yellow double paper bags 6, 9% and yellow double paper bags 3, 6, 9%. Also, it did not effect on changes of the pericarp, fruit weight and the color of the pericarp.

Effects of the Mixing Ratio of Substrates and Cuttings on the Growth of Virus-free Sweetpotato Seedlings in Hydroponic Bag Culture (고구마 무병묘 자루재배시 배지의 혼합 비율 및 삽수의 종류가 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the growth characteristics of virus-free sweetpotato in hydroponic bag culture. The rooted one-node and upper-shoot cuttings of 'Yeonhwangmi' and 'Mannamiwere' transplanted into the plastic bag (0.5 mm of thickness, $W300{\times}L1,200{\times}H120mm$) culture system filled with commercial horticultural media (TKS-2, Flora Gard Co.) and cocopeat + perlite (3 : 7, 5 : 5, 7 : 3, (v/v). Nutrient solution of National Horticultural Research Station in Japan was separately irrigated $3times{\times}30minutes$ per day (10:00, 14:00 and 20:00 with timer control) by the drip irrigation. The growth of two varieties was not significantly different among four substrates in 15 days, but it was excellent in commercial horticultural media (TKS-2) and cocopeat 3 : perlite 7 (v/v) in 20 days. The growth in 'Yeonhwangmiwas' promoted than that in 'Mannami', and the upper-shoot cuttings of 'Yeonhwangmi' and 'Mannami' showed a significant vine elongation (over 10 and 2 cm, respectively) compared to the one-node cuttings. Fresh weight and dry weight in cocopeat 3 : perlite 7 (v/v) were significant increased than that in cocopeat 7 : perlite 3 (v/v). Therefore, the bag culture system filed with cocopeat 3 : perlite 7 (v/v) was successfully applied on propagation of virus-free sweetpotato seedling, and the result expected that the bag culture system could be commercialized without high financial costs for farmers.

CHIP promotes the degradation of mutant SOD1 by reducing its interaction with VCP and S6/S6' subunits of 26S proteasome

  • Previously we showed that CHIP, a co-chaperone of Hsp70 and E3 ubiquitin ligase, can promote the degradation of mutant SOD1 linked to familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (fALS) via a mechanism not involving SOD1 ubiquitylation. Here we present evidence that CHIP functions in the interaction of mutant SOD1 with 26S proteasomes. Bag-1, a coupling factor between molecular chaperones and the proteasomes, formed a complex with SOD1 in an hsp70-dependent manner but had no direct effect on the degradation of mutant SOD1. Instead, Bag-1 stimulated interaction between CHIP and the proteasome-associated protein VCP (p97), which do not associate normally. Over-expressed CHIP interfered with the association between mutant SOD1 and VCP. Conversely, the binding of CHIP to mutant SOD1 was inhibited by VCP, implying that the chaperone complex and proteolytic machinery are competing for the common substrates. Finally we observed that mutant SOD1 strongly associated with the 19S complex of proteasomes and CHIP over-expression specifically reduced the interaction between S6/S6' ATPase subunits and mutant SOD1. These results suggest that CHIP, together with ubiquitin-binding proteins such as Bag-1 and VCP, promotes the degradation of mutant SOD1 by facilitating its translocation from ATPase subunits of 19S complex to the 20S core particle.

A Study on the Development of Dust Collection System for Hull Repair (선체 표면 공사시 발생하는 분진 수거 장치 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The main purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of hybrid collection system combined with centrifugal force of cyclone and filtration of bag filter in one unit system. The experiment and numerical simulation are executed for the analysis of collection efficiency and pressure drop characteristics of hybrid system in comparison with those of a general fabric bag filter with the various experimental parameters such as inlet velocity(filtration velocity), dust concentration and dust type, etc.. In present system, dust particles tangentially coming into the system body are controlled by the centrifugal force effect, and the next collection is made out by the filtration mechanism in the fabric filter media. Therefore, the effective first collection causes the decrease of dust loading on the fabric filter, and it presents quite a lower pressure drop of fabric filter than that of a general fabric filter. At the inlet velocity, $21{\sim}27m/sec$ and inlet concentration(fly ash) $300mg/m^3$, pressure drops through the filter media of hybrid system are shown lower as $10{\sim}22mmH_2O$ comparing to those($17{\sim}33mmH_2O$) of a general fabric bag filter.

Changes in Fatty Acid Composition of Glycolipid and Phospholipid of Sesame Seed Lipid during Storage (저장중(貯藏中) 참깨의 당지질(糖脂質) 및 인지질(燐脂質)의 지방산(脂肪酸) 조성변화(組成變化))

  • The change in fatty acid compositions of the glycolipid and phospholipid of sesame seed was analyzed during the storage for 4, 9, and 15 months at four different storage conditions, that is, storage under light with linen bag(LA), storage under light with polyethylene bag(LS), storage in dark with linen bag(DA), and storage in dark with polyethylene bag(DS). In the fatty acid composition of glycolipid, palmitic and stearic acid decreased during the storage but the linoleic acid increased significantly, particularly, between 4 to 9 months of storage. The content of palmitic and stearic acid in phospholipid decreased until 9 months, then increased until 15 months of storage, but reverse tendency was, observed in the content of oleic and linoleic acid. The ratio of unsaturated to saturated fatty acids in glycolipid increased during the storage of 15 months in all the storage conditions. The ratio of unsaturated to saturated fatty acids of phospholipid in DA and LA was slightly higher than that in DS and LS conditions during the storage for 15 months.

Capacitive sensor for the detection of residual quantity of intravenous drip solution in a plastic intravenous bag

  • Intravenous(IV) drip therapy is extensively used for all kinds of treatments. It works by delivering medicine directly into the vein. When the medicine has been fully dispensed, a dangerous situation occurs since air in the IV drip bag could enter the patient's vein, which is hazardous to the patient’s safety. In this paper, using capacitive sensors to detect the residual quantity of a plastic IV drip pack is proposed. A simulation model of this technology was shown by a finite elements analysis(FEA) program to find out its feasibility and analyze the proper geometrical dimension of a capacitive sensor. According to the FEA simulation, 3 kinds of capacitive sensors were attached to the bottom surface of the plastic IV drip bag to detect the residual quantity in the experiment. Experimental data showed an agreement with the FEA simulation model estimation and confirmed that the sensor works.

Effects of Air Compressibility on the Hydrodynamic Forces of a Bag (백의 유체역학적 힘과 공기의 압축성 효과)

  • The hydrodynamic problem when the pressurized bag submerges partially into water and oscillates was formulated by Lee(1992), and the solution method was given. In his formulation, however, the compressibility of air was neglected and the pressure inside the bag was assumed to be constant. In this paper, the formulation was done including the air compressibility and the wall to block fling around phenomenon. The compression process was assumed to be a isothermal process for a static problem, isentropic process for a dynamic problem. And the stability was analyzed for the static problem. Through the various numerical calculations, the forces and the shape of the bag were compared with those of a rigid body case, constant pressure case, and variable pressure case.

Air quality monitoring and evaluation of bag filter performance for removal of fine particulates in roadway tunnels (도로터널 내 공기질 측정과 Bag Filter를 이용한 미세먼지 제거 성능평가)

  • Air quality was monitored in four roadway tunnels located near Seoul metropolitan area from 7:00AM to 9:00AM. PM10 concentrations range $111{\sim}268{\mu}g/m^3$, which are 2~5 times higher than annual standard $50{\mu}g/m^3$, and PM2.5 concentrations range $35{\sim}65{\mu}g/m^3$, which are 1.5~2.5 times higher than annual standard $25{\mu}g/m^3$. Benzene concentrations range 300~500 ppb, which are 200~300 times higher than 1.5 ppb which is air quality standard. Four-month long term air quality monitoring and test results in one of long tunnels show that PM10 range $30{\sim}400{\mu}g/m^3$ and over 97% of them can be removed by bag filter, effectively. Finally, benzene concentrations range 250~350 ppb.

Development of the Automatic Hauling Operation System by Three boats for Anchovy Boat Seine (기선권현망어업의 3척식 자동화 양망시스템 개발)

  • This study was conducted in order to improve the automatic fishing operation system for anchovy boat seine by comparison with the fishing gear geometry and efficiency using the labor saving nets and the combined type net with midwater trawl. Field experiments were carried out to observe the geometry of nets and improve the fishing operation system by catcher boats. The vertical net opening of fore wing net, square, fore bag net and after bag net of the combined type net were varied in the range of 9.9~12.9. 16.2~28.2, 6.8~12.1 and 9.5~15.2m respectively, when the towing speed was 1.0m/sec and the distance between boats were 100m, 200m, 300m. The vertical net opening of the combined type nets was gradually decreased as function of with increasing the distance between catcher boats. Labor saving net which was maintained the net opening and towing depth stable was more suitable for the automatic hauling operation system by improvement of bag net rather than the combined type nets which was impossible in swallow depth and near to anchovy school. 3 boats hauling operation system of the labor saving net was carried out by crane with power block in 2 catcher boats for improvement of hauling operation and pushing equipment of anchovy cooking system in the processing boat for maintain more anchovy in dry frame. From the results of field experiments, 3 boats hauling operation system with power block and improved cooking system was very 3 boats hauling operation system with power block and improved cooking system was very useful and more practical as hauling time 20~35min and No. of fishermen 12~13 in comparison with the traditional system such as hauling time 30~50 min and No. of fishmen 28~38.

Temporal Variability of Reduced Sulfur Compounds (RSC) Collected in Tedlar Bag: Simulation of Sample Stability in the Emission Sources (배출원에서의 Tedlar-bag 시료채집법을 이용한 황화합물의 경시적 농도 변화에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, a series of experiments were carried out to measure temporal stability of reduced sulfur compounds (RSCs) in Tedlar bag samples as a function of elapsed storage time. To this end, temporal variability of 4 RSC standard gases ($H_2S$, $CH_3SH$, DMS, DMDS) was measured up to 29 days. For the purpose of comparison, RSC samples were stored in both individual and mixed state. In the case of mixed standard, samples were also examined to allow comparison between light and dark condition. Then results of $CH_3SH$ data were the most stable with the least change in its concentrations through the end of exps (29 days). When compared with previous studies, the extent of stability appeared to be influenced by the initial concentration levels of samples. When the patterns were compared between individual and mixture samples, differences were not significant in the case of $H_2S$ and DMS. The effects of light conditions on temporal stability were seen to be fairly sensitive on most RSC other than $H_2S$. The results of our study confirm that the stability of RSC storage is affected by their involvement in photochemical reactions.
