  • The NORAD type Two Line Element (TLE) was obtained from the osculating orbital elements by an iterative approximation procedure. The mathematical model was presented and computer program was developed for the conversion. The osculating orbital elements of the KOMPSAT-1 were converted into the NORAD TLE. Then the effect of the SGP4 atmospheric drag coefficient ($B^*$) was analyzed by comparison of the orbit propagation results with different $B^*$ values.

  • The fluorescence excitation (FE) spectrum of the S1-S0 (1B2-1A1) transition of dimethyldiazirine cooled in supersonic jet expansions has been obtained. Dispersed fluorescence (DF) spectra have also been taken for some prominent features of the FE spectrum. Vibrational analyses of the FE and DF spectra with the help of an ab initio molecular orbital calculation lead to some new vibrational assignments and refined fundamental frequencies.

  • This study aimed to find out the effect of vitamins on respiratory-related viral infections, including coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), through the literature reviews. From January 2000 to June 2021, the studies (cohort studies, cross-sectional studies, case-control studies, randomized control trials) related to vitamins (vitamin A, D, E, C, B6, folate, and B12) and COVID-19/severe acute respiratory syndrome/Middle East respiratory syndrome/cold/influenza were selected from the PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane libraries and analyzed. The relationship between vitamins and virus-related respiratory diseases was identified. Through the review, 39 studies were selected on vitamin D, one study on vitamin E, 11 studies on vitamin C, and 3 studies on folate. Regarding COVID-19, 18 studies on vitamin D, 4 studies on vitamin C, and 2 studies on folate showed significant effects of the intake of these nutrients in preventing COVID-19. Regarding colds and influenza, 3 studies on vitamin D, 1 study on vitamin E, 3 studies on vitamin C, and 1 study on folate demonstrated that the intake of these nutrients significantly prevents these diseases. Therefore, this review suggested the intake of vitamins D, E, C, and folate is important for preventing respiratory diseases related to viruses, such as COVID-19, colds, and influenza. The relationship between these nutrients and virus-related respiratory diseases should be continuously monitored in the future.

  • The effects of the heat treatment temperature ($600^{\circ}C-1050^{\circ}C$) on the formation of $MgB_2$ and the superconducting properties have been examined. The self-synthesized $MgB_4$ and commercial Mg powders were used as raw materials for the formation of $MgB_2$. The superconducting critical temperatures ($T_cs$) of $MgB_2$ bulk superconductors prepared at $600^{\circ}C-850^{\circ}C$ were as high as 37-38 K regardless of the heat treatment temperature. However, because $MgB_4$ is more stable than $MgB_2$ at above $850^{\circ}C$, no superconducting signals were detected in the susceptibility-temperature curves of the samples prepared above $850^{\circ}C$. As for the critical current density ($J_c$), the sample heat-treated at a low temperature ($600^{\circ}C$) for a prolonged period (40 h) showed a Jc higher than those prepared at $650^{\circ}C-850^{\circ}C$ for a short period (1 h). The FWHM (full width at half maximum) result showed that the grain size of $MgB_2$ of the $600^{\circ}C$ sample was smaller than that of the other samples. The high $J_c$ of the $600^{\circ}C$sample is attributed to the presence of large numbers of grain boundaries, which can act as flux pinning centers of $MgB_2$.

  • Soil bacteria were screened for the ability to control cucumber anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum orbiculare through induced systemic resistance(ISR). Sixty-four bacterial strains having in vitro antifungal activity were used for selecting ISR-inducing strains in cucumber. Cucumber seeds(cv. Baeknokdadagi) were sown in potting mixtures incorporated with the soil bacteria, at a rate of ca. $10^8$ cells per gram of the mixture. Two week-old plants were then transplanted into the steam-sterilized soil. Three leaf-stage plants were inoculated with a conidial suspension($5{\times}10^5$ conidia/ml) of C. orbiculare. Diseased leaf area(%) and number of lesions per $cm^2$ leaf were evaluated on third leaves of the plants, $5{\sim}6$ days after inoculation. Among 64 strains tested, nine strains, GC-B19, GC-B35, GK-B18, MM-B22, PK-B14, RC-B41, RC-B64, RC-B65, and RC-B77 significantly(P=0.05) reduced anthracnose disease compared to the untreated control. In contrast, some bacterial strains promoted susceptibility of cucumber to the disease. From the repeated experiments using the nine bacterial strains, GC-B19, MM-B22, PK-B14, and RC-B65 significantly(P=0.05) reduced both diseased leaf area(%) and number of lesions per $cm^2$ leaf in at lease one experiment. These strains with control efficacy of $37{\sim}80%$ were determined to be effective ISR-inducing strains.

  • In this paper, we proposed a novel compact microstrip lowpass filter with an ultra-wide stopband and a sharp cutoff frequency response. To improve the cutoff response of the conventional filter, the coupling effect between two open stubs is used. The slot on the ground with conventional shunt open stubs plays an important role of increasing the stopband at a high frequency. The combination of these structures gives the filter the characteristics of an ultra-wide stopband with a prominent cutoff sharpness. The fabricated microstrip lowpass filter with the size of 19.2 mm $\times$ 14.9 mm has -3 dB cutoff frequency at 1.1 GHz and -20 dB stopband from 1.5 GHz to over 30 GHz. The insertion loss is less than -0.15 dB in the passband.

  • Experimental results from nucleate pool boiling heat transfer with various finned tubes in CFC11, HCF123 and HCFC141b are reported. One plain tube and four low fin tubes of various fin densities were tested in an attempt to find out the optimum fin density in the heat flux range of 10-60 kW/m$^{[-992]}$ at near atmospheric pressure. The results indicated that CFC11 showed the highest heat transfer coefficients. Its alternatives, HCFC123 and HCFC141b, showed 3-5% lower heat transfer coefficients than those of CFC11 at the same heat flux. As the fin density increases, so does the heat transfer surface area. Measured heat transfer coefficients, however, do not necessarily always increase as the fin density increases. This unique phenomenon seems to be caused by the coalescence of the bubblers that prevent the cool liquid from entering into the fin valleys. For all the refrigerants tested, the optimum fin density yielding the highest performance was 28 fins per inch confirming the previous results by other researchers.
