  • A circularly polarized $12\times12$ array with application in the satellite communications is designed at 10 GHz. The radiator is an aperture-coupled ring patch, which is suitable of large arrays. The element spacing of the array is chosen to be $0.7\lambda_0$to maintain the main beam in the broadside direction. The array is a sequential array constructed on a series-parallel feed network to obtain high gain and low axial ratio. Measurement results for the array, acquired by experiments in the compact range of POSTECH, showed a directivity of 27.88 dB, a high gain of 25.55 dB, an efficiency of 60%, an axial ratio of 1.74 dB, and a side-lobe level of -13 dB. The bandwidth of the array was 43% when the VSWR was 2, and the bandwidth of the axial ratio was 16%.

  • In this pater, a CP-DRA(Circularly Polarized Dielectric Resonator Antenna) using cross-slot-feed is studied to enhance the gain and axial ratio bandwidth. First, a single layer CP-DRA is studied as a reference for comparison. Then a new type of multilayer CP-DRA is proposed to enhance the gain and axial ratio bandwidth. In consideration of the antenna gain enhancement, the spacing between the elements of the multilayer CP-DRA is examined through analysis of the radiation performance of a 2$\times$2 planar amy of DRAs with a spacing of 0.7$\lambda_0$ and 1.2$\lambda_0$ using CST Microwave Studio. The measured result shows that the gain and bandwidth of the multilayer structure is approximately twice that of the single layer one. In the case of the array antenna in which the spacing between multilayer CP-DRA element is 1.2$\lambda_0$, a grating lobe is reduced, in contrast to what we can expect from a conventional antenna array. The gain is 13.4dBi and axial ratio bandwidth is 0.8GHz.

  • This paper describes a design for a spiral antenna with a conical wall to obtain the high gain. The gain and the axial ratio of the spiral antenna were improved by a new design that included a conical wall and an optimized Archimedean slit on the ground plane in a conventional antenna with a circular cavity wall and a 4.5-turn slit. A gain improvement of 9.5 dBi higher and a good axial ratio of 1.9 dB lower were measured by the added conical wall and the newly designed slit from the current distribution control on the ground plane, respectively. The measured return loss, gain and axial ratio of the proposed antenna showed a good agreement with the simulated results. The proposed antenna will be applied to a non-linear junction detector system.

  • In this paper, circular polarized microstrip antenna with a conducted hollow cylinder-typed via around the coaxial probe is proposed to enhance the bandwidth of an RFID portable reader microstrip antenna. An antenna of thickness of 6.4 mm and size of $84{\times}84\;mm$ is manufactured with FR4 substrate and its 10 dB return loss bandwidth is measured to be 92 MHz, which is about three times large than the same size's microstrip antenna without hollow cylindrical via. The measured antenna gain and the axial ratio at each are $0.01{\sim}1.825\;dB$ and $2.3{\sim}8.2\;dB$ within 10 dB return loss bandwidth, respectively.

  • In this paper, dual-polarized antenna for UHF RFID reader has been described. Feeding network and antenna structure have been designed, such that both port isolation between transmitting and receiving port and cross-polarization be maximized, and overall antenna size be minimized as well. In addition, sequentially rotated feeding scheme has been adopted to secure axial ratio bandwidth in the circular polarization. Test results show 2.35 dBi antenna gain in 900 to 928 MHz frequency range and 150 MHz axial ratio bandwidth, respectively. And, the proposed antenna has a port isolation of -40 to -38 dB and a cross-polarization of -40 to -30 dB.

  • In this paper, circular-polarized dipole antenna with a novel structure is designed, simulated and fabricated for PCS or IMT-2000 base station at an arbitrary test frequency(1.575 GHz). Its radiation pattern is analyzed by means of physical optics(PO). The designed antenna is made up of a horizontal and a vertical dipole elements at a height of λ/4 above an reflector. One of λ/4 length vertical dipole element is located at a height of λ/8 above an reflector. In this case, circularly polarized radiation pattern is obtained by making impedance difference due to adjusting the length of each element. The characteristic of antenna measured from this study is that return loss is 18.4 dB, -10 dB bandwidth is 360 MHz(22.8%), 2 dB axial ratio bandwidth is 30 MHz, -3 dB beamwidth is 76$^{\circ}$, 2 dB axial ratio beamwidth is 58$^{\circ}$, axial ratio is 1.7 dB at 1.575 GHz. Radiation pattern is in well agreement with the result of PO.

  • A new type of circularly polarized(CP) antenna that is characterized by having both low-profile and greater axial-ratio bandwidth(ARBW) beyond existing antennas is introduced through analysis of artificial magnetic conductor(AMC) polarizer, and experimentally demonstrated. Although it is made use of a linear-polarized dipole antenna with close proximity to ground plane, it is backed by AMC polarizer so as to efficiently radiate with circularly changed polarization whose ARBW is determined by the texture geometry, whereas existing antennas exhibit CP surface-current on radiators, which limit ARBW. The mechanism of the polarization conversion is theoretically analyzed for ARBW, and the experimental properties including the impedance matching, CP radiation pattern, axial-ratio pattern, ARBW, and two-port isolation are discussed.

  • In this paper, a design for the 900MHz bandwidth RFID reader antenna with circular polarization is proposed and experimentally investigated. The 900MHz bandwidth RFID reader antenna is proposed as a simple radiator with loading capacitor to generate LHCP(Left Hand Circular Polarization). Also, the design and fabrication of antenna has the returnloss of -32.28dB at the center frequency of 1010MHz and Bandwidth of 12.5% at 905Hz~1030MHz. Proposed LHCP antenna of maximum gain is 6dBi and satisfy axial ratio based on 2. From the measured result, axial ratios based on 2 are observed at the operating frequencies. The proposed antenna is suitable for RFID applications in wireless communications.

  • In this paper, the circularly polarized $4{\times}4$ array antenna is proposed for the X-band. A single antenna consists of square patch and unequal cross-aperture coupled feeding. The RHCP(Right Handed Circularly Polarization) is generated by unequal cross-aperture coupled feeding. By reducing space among elements of way antenna from 0.8 ${\lambda}_0$ to 0.45 ${\lambda}_0$, the mounting area of array antenna is miniaturized. The $2{\times}2$ array antenna is designed using sequential rotation feeding network. The good level of gain, axial ratio, and impedance bandwidth are achieved. The $4{\times}4$ array antenna is extended by ${\lambda}/4$ transformer and T-junction power divider. The simulated maximum radiation gain is 15.09 dBi at 10 GHz. The simulated 3 dB Axial Ratio bandwidth is from 9.05 to 10.4 GHz(13.5%). Also the measured impedance bandwidth($VSWR{\leq}2$) of manufactured $4{\times}4$ array antenna is from 8.45 to 11.84 GHz(33.9%). The measured maximum radiation gain is 11.10 dBi at 10 GHz. The measured 3 dB Axial Ratio bandwidth is from 9.42 to 10.47 GHz(10.5%).
