Developments of Solid-State Gyroscopy during last decades are impressive and were based on thin-walled shell resonators like HRG or CRG made from fused quartz or leuko-sapphire. However, a number of design choices for inertial-grade gyroscopes, which can be used for high-g applications and for mass- or middle-scale production, is still very limited. So, considerations of fundamental physical effects in solids that can be used for development of a miniature, completely solid-state, and lower-cost sensor look urgent. There is a variety of different types of bulk acoustic (elastic) waves (BAW) in anisotropic solids. Shear waves with different variants of their polarization have to be studied especially carefully, because shear sounds in glasses and crystals are sensitive to a turn of the solid as a whole, and, so, they can be used for development of gyroscopic sensors. For an isotropic medium (for a glass or a fine polycrystalline body), classic Lame's theorem (so-called, a general solution of Elasticity Theory or Green-Lame's representation) has been modified for enough general case: an elastic medium rotated about an arbitrary set of axes. Travelling, standing, and mixed shear waves propagating in an infinite isotopic medium (or between a pair of parallel reflecting surfaces) have been considered too. An analogy with classic Foucault's pendulum has been underlined for the effect of a turn of a polarizational plane (i.e., an integration effect for an input angular rate) due to a medium's turn about the axis of the wave propagation. These cases demonstrate a whole-angle regime of gyroscopic operation. Single-crystals are anisotropic media, and, therefore, to reflect influence of the crystal's rotation, classic Christoffel-Green's tensors have been modified. Cases of acoustic axes corresponding to equal velocities for a pair of the pure-transverse (shear) waves have of an evident applied interest. For such a special direction in a crystal, different polarizations of waves are possible, and the gyroscopic effect of "polarizational precession" can be observed like for a glass. Naturally, formation of a wave pattern in a massive elastic body is much more complex due to reflections from its boundaries. Some of these complexities can be eliminated. However, a non-homogeneity has a fundamental nature for any amorphous medium due to its thermodynamically-unstable micro-structure, having fluctuations of the rapidly-frozen liquid. For single-crystalline structures, blockness (walls of dislocations) plays a similar role. Physical nature and kinematic particularities of several typical "drifts" in polarizational BAW gyros (P-BAW) have been considered briefly too. They include irregular precessions ("polarizational beats") due to: non-homogeneity of mass density and elastic moduli, dissymmetry of intrinsic losses, and an angular mismatch between propagation and acoustic axes.
New motor development requires high-speed load testing using dynamo equipment to calculate the efficiency of the motor. Abnormal noise and vibration may occur in the test equipment rotating at high speed due to misalignment of the connecting shaft or looseness of the fixation, which may lead to safety accidents. In this study, three single-axis vibration sensors for X, Y, and Z axes were attached on the surface of the test motor to measure the vibration value of vibration. Analog data collected from these sensors was used in classification models for anomaly detection. Since the classification accuracy was around only 93%, commonly used hyperparameter optimization techniques such as Grid search, Random search, and Bayesian Optimization were applied to increase accuracy. In addition, Response Surface Method based on Design of Experiment was also used for hyperparameter optimization. However, it was found that there were limits to improving accuracy with these methods. The reason is that the sampling data from an analog signal does not reflect the patterns hidden in the signal. Therefore, in order to find pattern information of the sampling data, we obtained descriptive statistics such as mean, variance, skewness, kurtosis, and percentiles of the analog data, and applied them to the classification models. Classification models using descriptive statistics showed excellent performance improvement. The developed model can be used as a monitoring system that detects abnormal conditions of the motor test.
A 2-axis gimbal system is one of main disturbance sources affecting image jitter response of a satellite. The gimbal system comprises azimuth stage and elevation stage, and these pointing mechanism can be rotated by stepping motors about its azimuth and elevation axes simultaneously. Because of the complex and coupled dynamic motion of the gimbal system, its moment of inertia and structural modes can be changed according to the system configuration, and thus the gimbal system generates complicated and non-linear disturbance characteristics. In order to improve the jitter response of a spacecraft, it is an indispensable process to reduce the micro-vibration disturbance level of the antenna system. In the present research, a 2-axis gimbal system was manufactured and then its micro-vibration test was performed in terms of two types of stepping motors(2-phase and 5-phase). The test results show that the disturbance level of the gimbal system can be reduced by replacing the 2-phase stepping motor with the 5-phase one, and the average disturbance attenuation ratio is 56 % in peak level and 48 % in standard deviation level. The experimental results confirm that it is an efficient jitter reduction method to adopt a high-phase stepping motor.
Due to the complexity of mathematical expressions, the literature concerning the free vibration analysis of plates carrying multiple three-degree-of-freedom (dof) spring-mass systems is rare. In this paper, the three degrees of freedom (dof's) for a spring-mass system refer to the translational motion of its lumped mass in the vertical ($\bar{z}$) direction and the two pitching motions of its lumped mass about the two horizontal ($\bar{x}$ and $\bar{y}$) axes. The basic concept of this paper is to replace each three-dof spring-mass system by a set of equivalent springs, so that the free vibration characteristics of a rectangular plate carrying any number of three-dof spring-mass systems can be obtained from those of the same plate supported by the same number of sets of equivalent springs. Since the three dof's of the lumped mass for each three-dof spring-mass system are eliminated to yield a set of equivalent springs, the total dof of the entire vibrating system is not affected by the total number of the spring-mass systems attached to the rectangular plate. However, this is not true in the conventional finite element method (FEM), where the total dof of the entire vibrating system increases three if one more three-dof spring-mass system is attached to the rectangular plate. Hence, the computer storage memory required by using the presented equivalent spring method (ESM) is less than that required by the conventional FEM, and the more the total number of the three-dof spring-mass systems attached to the plate, the more the advantage of the ESM. In addition, since manufacturing a spring with the specified stiffness is much easier than making a three-dof spring-mass system with the specified spring constants and mass magnitude, the presented theory of replacing a three-dof spring-mass system by a set of equivalent springs will be also significant from this viewpoint.
As interest in eco-friendly and fuel-efficient electric vehicles has increased globally, there has also been a growing interest in the efficiency, vibration, and noise of motors for electric vehicles Electric vehicles generally have significantly lower driving ranges per charge compared to the maximum driving range per fueling of internal combustion engine vehicles. Additionally, there are issues with various vibrations and noise generated by the motor that can cause discomfort for passengers. Therefore, research is necessary to reduce losses, vibration, and noise of the motor to improve the driving range of electric vehicles. IPMSM with a purchased design can obtain additional reluctance torque by utilizing the difference in inductance between the d and q axes. However, due to this reluctance torque, torque ripple occurs larger than other motors. The increase in torque ripple also increases noise and vibration. Since the reluctance torque, which is the main cause of torque ripple, is determined by the shape of the motor components, torque ripple can be reduced through shape optimization. In this paper, a rotor shape for reducing torque ripple and core loss that causes vibration, noise, and efficiency to decrease of IPMSM for electric vehicles was proposed. Optimization design was carried out by changing the shape of the q-axis path of the rotor to reduce the difference in inductance of the d and q-axis of the rotor. Finally, in order to verify the validity of the design variables derived through the optimal design, the original model and the improved model were compared through the FEM. Compared to the original model, the improved model's torque verifying ripple was reduced by about 62% and core loss was reduced by about 29%, the superiority of the improved model.
Notion sickness is well known to be caused by long time exposure to the very low frequency motion in the multiple axes of human body Since the vestibular system for the perception of low frequency motion is located in the head, accurate measurement of 6 degree of freedom head motion is of great importance. In this study, the measurement system consisting of a safety helmet and 9 translational accelerometers was constructed for the estimation of 3 translational and 3 rotational motions of human head. Since estimation errors of 3 rotational components can be significantly magnified even by small offset of the sensitivity axis from the geometric center of an accelerometer, accurate measurement of sensitivity axis must be preceded. The method for accurate estimation of the offset was proposed, and the effect of offset on the estimation of angular acceleration was investigated.
This study is a basic study on the seismic reinforcement method of anchors of fixed parts in order to reduce the effect of seismic motion that affects the facilities in the event of an earthquake. By applying the test method of ICC ES AC 156, a seismic simulation experiment was performed on the vibration table with three axes simultaneously using the number of connecting bolts between cabinets and channels as a parameter. In addition, the reliability of the experiment was verified using numerical analysis, and the part about the dynamic characteristics that could not be performed according to the experimental limit was investigated through numerical analysis. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the natural frequency of the main body was increased due to the increase in the number of connecting bolts between the cabinet-channel. Accordingly, it was judged that the rigidity of the lower part of the cabinet was increased due to seismic reinforcement. It was analyzed that the impact delivered to the body was effectively reduced. In the future, if the reinforcement of the connection parts mentioned in this study is added to the existing seismic reinforcement of the electrical cabinets, it is expected that the damage to the electrical cabinets of the power plant equipment caused by an earthquake will be effectively reduced.
Too see the effects of finite record on the estimation of WVD in practice, a window which has time varying length is examined. Its length increases linearly with time in the first half of the record, and decreases from the center of the record. The bias error due to this window decreases inversely proportionally to the window length as time increases in the first half. In the second half, the bias error increases and the resolution decreases as time increases. The bias error due to the smoothing of WVD, which is obtained by two-dimensional convolution of the true WVD and the smoothing window, which has fixed lengths along time and frequency axes, is derived for arbitrary smoothing window function. In the case of using a Gaussian window as a smoothing window, the bias error is found to be expressed as an infinite summation of differential operators. It is demonstrated that the derived formula is well applicable to the continuous WVD, but when WVD has some discontinuities, it shows the trend of the error. This is a consequence of the assumption of the derivation, that is the continuity of WVD. For windows other than Gaussian window, the derived equation is shown to be well applicable for the prediction of the bias error.
