  • Two main sources of data, meteorological data and land surface characteristics, are essential to effectively run a distributed rainfall-runoff model. The specification and averaging of the land surface characteristics in a suitable way is crucial to obtaining accurate runoff output. Recent advances in remote sensing techniques are often being used to derive better representations of these land surface characteristics. Due to the mismatch in scale between digital land cover maps and numerical grid sizes, issues related to upscaling or downscaling occur regularly. A specific method is typically selected to average and represent the land surface characteristics. This paper examines the amount of flooding by applying the FLO-2D routing model, where vegetation heterogeneity is manipulated using the Manning's roughness coefficient. Three different upscaling methods, arithmetic, dominant, and aggregation, were tested. To investigate further, the rainfall-runoff model with FLO-2D was facilitated in Yongdam catchment and heavy rainfall events during wet season were selected. The results show aggregation method provides better results, in terms of the amount of peak flow and the relative time taken to achieve it. These rwsults suggest that the aggregation method, which is a reasonably realistic description of area-averaged vegetation nature and characteristics, is more likely to occur in reality.

  • Surface texturing is a promising route to reduce the friction forces between two surfaces in sliding contact. To this end, the fabrication of micro dimples is one of the most widely used surface texturing methods. According to published results, textured surfaces with elliptical micro dimples offer the best friction performance. Therefore, we fabricated elliptical micro dimples on carbon steel (SM45C) by using dual frequency vibration assisted machining. High and low frequencies of 16.3 kHz and 230 Hz were applied to the 3D resonant elliptical vibrator. The 3D resonant elliptical vibrator with a triangular cubic boron nitride insert was assembled on a computer numerically controlled turning lathe. Oval micro dimples of various profiles were manufactured on carbon steel. In terms of the profile of the elliptical micro dimples, the experimental results indicated that the average micro dimple width and depth were 112 ㎛ and 7.7 ㎛. These dimensions are closely related to the cutting conditions and can be easily controlled.

  • The paper presents the surface-modified NACA 2412 airfoil performance with variable cavity characteristics such as size, shape and orientation, by numerically investigated with the pre-validation study. The study attempts to improve the airfoil aerodynamic performance at 30 m/s with a variable angle of attack (AOA) ranging from 0° to 20° under Reynolds number (Re) 4.4×105. Through passive surface control techniques, a boundary layer control strategy has been enhanced to improve flow performance. An intense background survey has been carried out over the modifier orientation, shape, and numbers to differentiate the sub-critical and post-critical flow regimes. The wall-bounded flows along with its governing equations are investigated using Reynolds Average Navier Strokes (RANS) solver coupled with one-equational transport Spalart Allmaras model. It was observed that the aerodynamic efficiency of cavity airfoil had been improved by enhancing maximum lift to drag ratio ((l/d) max) with delayed flow separation by keeping the flow attached beyond 0.25C even at a higher angle of attack. Detailed investigation on the cavity distribution pattern reveals that cavity depth and width are essential in degrading the early flow separation characteristics. In this study, overall general performance comparison, all the cavity airfoil models have delayed stalling compared to the original airfoil.

  • This paper conducted a study on the application of ceramic materials for bridge bearing that can complement the durability of PTFE, a conventional bridge bearing friction material, and exhibit low coefficient of friction and friction behavior without lubricant. The ceramic material was zirconia (ZrO2), and the friction behavior was evaluated according to the roughness coefficient. The roughness coefficient was divided into 0.8 and 0.027, and the average coefficient of friction was calculated to be 0.16 under 15 MPa surface pressure. Afterward, ceramic was made into friction material and applied to the bridge bearing, and performance comparison with PTFE bridge bearing was conducted through compression test and friction test. In the compression test, the ceramic and PTFE bridge bearing showed ideal compression behavior depending on the load. No fractures or defects were observed in the ceramic bridg bearing, but lubricant loss was observed in the PTFE bridge bearing. The average coefficient of friction of the ceramic bridge bearing analyzed through friction behavior was 0.16. The inherent material properties of the physical and chemical properties of ceramics, the excellent mechanical properties derived from the performance evaluation, and the coefficient of friction of 0.16 suggest that it can be considered as a friction material.

  • The roughness of the road is an important factor directly connected to the ride comfort, and is an evaluation item for functional evaluation and pavement quality management of the road. In this study, data on the road surface were acquired using the latest 3D geospatial information construction technology of ground LiDAR, drone photogrammetry, and drone LiDAR, and the accuracy and roughness of each method were analyzed. As a result of the accuracy evaluation, the average accuracy of terrestrial LiDAR were 0.039m, 0.042m, 0.039m RMSE in X, Y, Z direction, and drone photogrammetry and drone LiDAR represent 0.072~0.076m, 0.060~0.068m RMSE, respectively. In addition, for the roughness analysis, the longitudinal and lateral slopes of the target section were extracted from the 3D geospatial information constructed by each method, and the design values were compared. As a result of roughness analysis, the ground LiDAR showed the same slope as the design value, and the drone photogrammetry and drone LiDAR showed a slight difference from the design value. Research is needed to improve the accuracy of drone photogrammetry and drone LiDAR in measurement fields such as road roughness analysis. If the usability through improved accuracy can be presented in the future, the time required for acquisition can be greatly reduced by utilizing drone photogrammetry and drone LiDAR, so it will be possible to improve related work efficiency.

  • We have studied the electrical and optical of organic light-emitting diodes depending on hole size of crucible boat using BCP materials. The thickness of TPD, $Alq_3$ and BCP was manufactured 40 nm, 60 nm and 5 nm under a base pressure of $5\times10^{-6}$ Torr using at thermal evaporation, respectively. In order to investigate the optimal surface roughness of BCP, the BCP was thermally evaporated to be 0.8 nun, 1.0 mm, 1.2 mm and 1.5 mm as a hole size of crucible boat, respectively. As the experimental results, we found that the luminous efficiency and the external quantum efficiency of the device is superior to others when hole size of crucible boat using BCP is 1.2 mm. Also, compared to the ones from the devices having the hole size of crucible boat is 1.0 mm and 1.5mm layer, the external quantum efficiency were improved by 2.5 and 2.4 times.

  • In this study, the changes in hair quality before and after Magic straight perm have been evaluated through a hair damage measurement method. For this, a healthy high school student's (age18 years) wavy hair was selected and permed on the left and right sides. Then, the changes caused by physical methods which were applied during the fl at iron-based Magic straight perm were evaluated based on the hair damage measurement method before and after the Magic straight perm. According to the protein release test after the Magic straight perm, 1.26% in average and 0.14% was observed in Cool Magic straight perm sample. In a field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) test, saw teeth-shaped partial desquamation of cuticle cells and impurities were observed in the warm-treated hair sample. In atomic force microscope (AFM), line-profile is a method to represent roughness data on hair. According to analysis on 3-dimensional (3D) images, the hair with Cool Magic straight perm was lower than the hair with Warm Magic perm in terms of the color change of 3D images. In addition, vertical changes were observed in the hair with Cool Magic perm. As a result, irregular surface roughness was observed. This study proposed a method to minimize hair damage by cooling down the heat with the cool hair straightener as soon as the Warm Magic was finished.

  • In the device structure of ITO/tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum ($Alq_3$)/Al device, we investigated the efficiency improvement of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) depending on the hole-size of crucible boat. The device was manufactured using a thermal evaporation under the base pressure of $5{\times}10^{-6}\;Torr$. The $Alq_3$ organics were evaporated to be 100 nm thick at a deposition rate of $1.5\AA/s$, and in order to investigate the optimal surface roughness of $Alq_3$, the $Alq_3$ was thermally evaporated to be 0.8 mm, 1.0 mm, and 1.5 mm as a hole-size of the boat, respectively. We found that luminance and external quantum efficiency are superior when the hole-size of the boat is 1.0 mm. The external quantum efficiency of the device made with the hole-size of 1.0 mm boat were improved by a factor of ten compared to the devices made with the hole-size of non boat.

  • In this paper, the effects of the adhesive thickness and adherend roughness on the static and fatigue strengths of the adhesively bonded circular single lap joints has been investigated by an experimental method. The stacking sequence effect of the composite adherend on the static and fatigue strength and the fracture patterns of the adhesive failure were also observed. Since the circular single lap joint fails catastrophically beyond the static strength of fatigue limit, the tubular polygonal adhesively bonded joints such as triangular, tetragonal, pentagonal, hexagonal as well as elliptical joints were manufactured in order to give partial mechanical characteristics to the adhesively bonded tubular joints. These joints were tested both in static and fatigue modes. From the experimental investigations, it was found that the fatigue strength of the circular adhesively bonded joints was much dependent on the arithmetical average surface roughness of the adherends and the polygonal adhesively bonded joints had better fatigue strength characteristics than the circular adhesively bonded joints.

  • Statement of problem: Proper finishing and polishing enhance both the esthetics and the longevity of restored teeth. Blade finishing technique would be suited for smoothing and finishing. Evaluation of this technique are necessary. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the blade finishing and polishing procedures on the surface profile and roughness of ormocer-based composite resin and nanohybrid composite resin. Material and methods: The material included a ormocer-based composite resin ($Admira^{(R)}$ & $Admira^{(R)}$ Flow); a nanohybrid composite resin ($Grandio^{(R)}$ & $Grandio^{(R)}$ Flow). One hundred forty specimens of each group were prepared using a mylar strip and randomly divied into blade finishing and rubber polishing groups (n=10). The average surface roughness (Ra) in micrometers was measured and the surface profile was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) (Magnification ${\times}$ 200). The data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney Test at 0.05 significance level. Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that the mylar strip produced the smoothest surface on all materials and among the finishing-polishing methods was not significanct difference (P>0.05). Ormocer-based flowable composite resin performedthe lowest variability in initial surface roughness among the tested materials.
