  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the creative science problem solving (CSPS) process amongst scientifically-gifted students and average students through the qualitative think-aloud research method, and to compare the differences in their CSP, scientific knowledge, scientific process skills, creative thinking, and finally, the affective domain used in their CSPS. For the purposes of this study, two scientifically-gifted 6th grade students and one average student were selected. The results show that one gifted student with good creative thinking skills exhibited better performance in CSPS than the other gifted student, who had the highest level of scientific knowledge. In the case of the average student, in spite of her high level of factual knowledge, she had difficulty in proceeding in CSPS due to her shallow scientific knowledge along with her low level of understanding of the given problem. This study highlights the importance of considering the factors which influence successful CSPS and which can play an important role in the education of scientifically-gifted children. These factors were identified as scientific knowledge, understanding of the scientific process, creative thinking, the affective domain, and science problem solving skills.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate student nurses' knowledge and attitude related to the elderly. Method: The data were collected from 519 student nurses studying in university by means of a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation analysis by SPSS version 10. Results: The average score of the respondents' knowledge of the elderly was 12.02(${\pm}2.77$) out of 25. The average score of the respondents' attitude toward the elderly was 80.09(${\pm}11.69$) out of 140. There was a statistically significant difference in the respondents knowledge of the elderly depending on their degree of preference for giving nursing care to the elderly (F=7.534, p=.001). There was a statistically significant difference in the respondents attitude toward the elderly depending on their degree of preference for giving nursing care to the elderly (F=23.167, p=.000), possession of living grandparents (F=6.174, p=.002), and degree of interaction with elderly (t=5.661, p=.000). Student nurses' knowledge and attitude related to the elderly were significantly correlated. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop a program for continuous teaching and education that will help increase student nurses' knowledge of the elderly and thereby positively change their attitude toward the elderly.

  • Purpose - This paper analyzes the student determinants of college non-completion and estimates the effects of each determinant on college non-completion. Design/methodology/approach - We use student panel data from a large Korean university from 2011 to 2021. Our results are from estimation of fixed-effects logit model. Findings - The results show that grade point average, participation in extracurricular activities, the number of counseling sessions with teachers, and financial aid are the main determinants of college non-completion. Academic probation, which is defined as any person who has a cumulative grade point average below a one point seven five, increases the non-completion rate by 2.6 percentage points and an one-point rise in extracurricular activities index reduces the rate by 0.1 percentage points. The effects of each determinant are heterogeneous across student sub-groups which are separated by gender, nationality, and academic discipline. Research implications or Originality - Tailored support programs for academically discouraged students that incorporate student characteristics and backgrounds are necessary to increase college completion rates and degree attainment.

  • This study aims to compare student self-, teacher-, and objective assessments of elementary science-gifted students' scientific creativity. A science-gifted program on the topic of Hydraulic Machine was implemented to 40 fifth-graders in the Science-Gifted Education Center of an education office in Seoul, Korea for four weeks. The products of the students' activities were assessed by three types of 'Student Self-Assesment', 'Teacher-Assesment', and 'Objective Assessment using Formula'. Based on two essential components of creativity, the scientific creativity is divided into two parts of originality and usefulness. Ideas that satisfy both components can be counted as scientifically creative. The main results of this study are as follows: First, the scores of each week and the average of the overall four-week scores on scientific creativity were significantly correlated. Student self-assessment (r=.687), teacher-assessment (r=.715), and objective assessment (r=.724) appeared consistently over instructional periods. Second, the average scores of student self-, objective, and teacher-assessments were 73.15, 35.72, and 26.60, respectively. The result of student self-assessment on scientific creativity tended to be higher than those of formula and teacher. Third, among the three types of assessment on scientific creativity, a strong correlation appeared between teacher- and objective assessment (r=.974), but neither between student self- and objective (r=.161) nor between student self- and teacher- (r=.213). Fourth, the scores on originality component had a positive correlation between teacher- and objective assessment (r=.713). The scores of student self- and teacher-assessments had a significant correlation too (r=.315), but not between student self- and objective assessment (r=.279). Fifth, the scores on usefulness component did not have a significant correlation between student self- and teacher-assessment (r=.155). Sixth, there was no significant difference on scientific creativity between student self- and objective assessment [${\chi}^2$(1, n=40)=1.667, p<.197]. Not between student self- and teacher-assessment either [${\chi}^2$(1, n=40)=1.616, p<.204]. On the contrary, there was a significant difference between teacher- and objective assessment [${\chi}^2$(1, n=40)=32.593, p<.000]. Seventh, the students were categorized into four groups according to the levels of their scores by student self- and teacher-assessment. The result showed that factors influencing student self-assessment are inherent in the personality traits of gifted individuals, such as self-esteem and perfectionism. The findings suggested that there are challenges for the educators to make efforts to construct consistent assessment methods for scientific creativity.

Objective : This study investigated the relation of a physical health status which itself recognizes and an exercise performance situation out for an elementary school students. Methods : This cross-sectional study examined health and exercise performance status of 1,032 elementary school children. To examine children's a physical injury experience and injury occurrence characteristic and a personal computer utility condition, a body alignment status of the student which parents recognize and the relation of a fatigue and concentration level was an investigation with other factors. Results: An average age of the children was the 10.95 yr and an average weight was the 39.02 kg and an average height was the 145.17cm. The student to be experiencing currently an pain occurrence was 192(19.07%). It was most high to the grade 6(23.33%) compared with different grade(p<.01). Physical pain occurrence rate did not exist by gender(p>.05). There is most an pain occurrence region the ankle(38.0%). They had a 27.19% an physical injury experience of the students. A injury rate was revealed that were high as were the high grade(grade 6, 36.72%)(p<.01). A reason of the injury rate was high in a collision at the body(19.84%), falling down(18.68%) sequence at a traffic accident(22.96%)(p<.05). There were the significant relation to the school year the reason of the injury (p<.05). Currently there was the student to be taking special exercises a 57.97%. This that they have the relation with exercise with physical pain students to recognize 23.8%. The significant relation did not exist in the physical exercise execution and pain occurrence on the body(p>.05).

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze patterns of space use and housing preferences to be used in the housing plan for students. Data was collected through questionnaire surveys from local university students living apart from their family. We collected 272 samples and analyzed them using SPSSwin program. The results are as follows; 1) The average hours of staying at the housing for student are 5 hours and 30 minutes(except sleeping time). Most of the time was used for ‘hobby’ and ‘study\ulcorner computer works’. The most of the students had ‘a meal per day’ at their housing. 2) The most preferred housing type by the students is ‘studio apartment’ and the next preferred is ‘apartment’. The highly demanded facility is ‘laundry’ and the next comes ‘kitchen’. 3) Those who spend more time in their housing than average show higher demand in ‘kitchen’ and ‘balcony’. Those who spend less time in their housing show higher demand in ‘storage’.

  • The goal of this paper is to suggest an algorithm to get the number of student on the elementary, meddle and high-school for the forecasting of the numbers of student by the moving average method using a proportional expression. Comparing with the results of Korean education statistical system 2005, 2006, and 2007, the results of this paper are better than those of the Korean education statistical system.
