  • The objective of this study it to evaluate the microbial safety in rapid sand filters adapted in most drinking water treatment plants. The potential pathogens to cause water quality problems Are presumed to be Giardia and Gryptosporidium. They look like particles in view of their size. It has been reported that if the number of particles (larger than 2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in water) is less than 100 per mL and its turbidity is below 0.1 NTU, it is considered as a safe water in terms of pathogens. In order to achieve such a good water quality. filter-aids (chemicals) were added to the inlet-channel of filter and their effectiveness was evaluated on the basis of water quality factors such as turbidity and particle counting. This study was conducted in she three steps of experiment: jar test. pilot plant test and real water treatment plant test (P plant in seoul). The experiment reult of the P water treatment showed that cationic polyamine was the most effective in the removal of particles and turbidity at the does of 0.25 mg/L. The turbidity without filer-aids showed in the range of 0.12 ~0.17 NTU during filtration and 0.14 NTU on the average. However. with addition of polyamine, the turbidity represented below(or less than) 0.1 NTU after 20 min in the start of filtration and kept 0.08 NTU on the average. On the other hand, as for number of particles, while no filter-aids led to the range of 111 ~270 per mL and 190 on the average, addition of polydmine led to 113 per mL on talc average, and kept below100 per mL after 20 min in the start of filtration.

  • The harmonic components of grid voltage result in oscillations of the calculated phase obtained via phase synchronization. This affects the security and stability of grid-connected converters. Moving average filter, delayed signal cancellation and their related harmonic elimination algorithms are major methods for such issues. However, all of the existing methods have their limitations in dealing with multiple harmonics issues. Furthermore, few studies have focused on a comparison and evaluation of these algorithms to achieve optimal algorithm selections in specific applications. In this paper, these algorithms are quantitatively analyzed based on the derived mathematical models. Moreover, an enhanced moving average filter and enhanced delayed signal cancellation algorithms, which are applicable for eliminating a group of selective harmonics with only one calculation block, are proposed. On this basis, both a comprehensive comparison and a quantitative evaluation of all of the aforementioned algorithms are made from several aspects, including response speed, required data storage size, sensitivity to sampling frequency, and elimination of random noise and harmonics. With the conclusions derived in this paper, better overall performance in terms of harmonic elimination can be achieved. In addition, experimental results under different conditions demonstrate the validity of this study.

  • In this paper we analyze the convergence behavior of the recursive least rank (RLR) L-filter. The RLR L-filter is an order statistics filter, filter coefficients of which are the weights according to the order of magnitude of inputs. And RLR L-filter is a non-linear adaptive filter, that uses RLR algorithm for coefficient updating. The RLR algorithm is a non-linear adaptive algorithm based on rank estimates in Robust statistics. The mean and mean-squared convergence behavior of the RLR L-filter is examined with variable step-sizes. The RLR L-filter adapts the median filter type to the heavy-tailed distribution function of impulse noise, and adapts the average filter type to Gaussian noises.

  • The study examined the relationship between the compressed breast thickness and Average Glandular Dose (AGD) among 1,969 outpatients who went through breast X-ray in a university hospital for 10 months from July 1st, 2007 to April 30th, 2008. Then it analyzed the result acquired from 3,900 cases of Cranio-Caudal (CC) view, especially, when the breasts were compressed (13-15daN). The following is the conclusion driven from the relationship analysis. 1. The subjects aged in 40s and 50s were 2,679 out of 3,900 cases and this figure was 68.69% in all. 2. In terms of distribution depending on focus/filter, 41.0% was Mo/Mo, 34.8% was Mo/Rh, and 24.2% was Rh/Rh. 3. In terms of compressed breast thickness depending on focus/filter, the average thickness was 26.91 mm at Mo/Mo, 38.84 mm at Mo/Rh, and 48.80 mm at Rh/Rh. The average thickness of the entire cases was shown to be 36.27 mm. 4. AGD depending on focus/filter was 1.27 mGy at Mo/Mo, 1.55 mGy at Mo/Rh, and 1.42 mGy at Rh/Rh. The average glandular dose of the entire cases was shown to be 1.43 mGy. 5. The relationship of AGD depending on compressed breast thickness at Mo/Mo was y=0.0318x + 0.470 while it was y=0.0206x + 0.709 at Mo/Rh and y=0.0248x + 0.335 at Mo/Rh. It was highly influenced by the compressed breast thickness, however, more variation was detected at Mo/Mo depending on breast thickness.

  • In this letter, we propose a new prediction block filter that can reduce errors between the original and prediction blocks. The proposed filter adaptively adjusts filter coefficients by using the previously reconstructed adjacent blocks and their prediction blocks. Then, the filter is selectively applied to the current prediction block according to the rate-distortion optimization. Moreover, since the same filter coefficients can be derived in the decoder, they are not encoded into the bit-stream. The proposed method achieves a 4.65% bitrate saving on average compared with H.264/AVC.

  • The sigma filter is a nonlinear filter of modifying average filter to develop edge-preserving characteristics. However, this filter is yet weak to the impulsive noise such as BSC noise. Therefore it has not been used so highly in the image restoration area. In this paper, We propose an adaptive image restoration algorithm using the local statistic and the characteristic of human eyes in order to compensate its drawback and to improve its performance. The performance of the proposed algorithm and the vonventional ones are compared for images degraded by BSC noise. The proposed algorithm shows better performance than the median filter and yields 5 dB performance improvement over the convertional K-sigma filter on SNR gain.

  • This paper presents an analysis of the short-range radar noise adjusting the angle of the radar reflector for the handicapped aids and suggests a complementary filter that combines a moving average filter with a heuristic algorithm to remove the radar noise. It also shows the effectiveness of the suggested filter by comparing the experiments results between the Kalman filter and the suggested filter.

  • In this paper, two pre-filtering techniques are presented for accurately estimating the impact location of a loose part. The reason why a pre-filterng technique Is necessary in a Loose Part Monitoring System is that the effects of background noise on the signal to noise ratio (SNR) can be reduced considerably resulting in improved estimation accuracy. The first method is to take d moving average operation in the time domain. The second one is to adopt band-pass filters designed in the frequency domain such as a Butterworth filter, Chebyshev filter I & II and an Elliptic Filter. To show the effectiveness, the impact test data (signals) from the YGN3 power plant are first preprocessed and then used to estimate the loose pan impact position. Resultantly. we observed that SNR is much improved and the average estimation error is below 7.5%.

  • In modern society, as many data are used for research or commercial purposes, the value of data is gradually increasing. In related fields, research is being actively conducted to collect valuable data, but it is difficult to collect proper data because the value of collection is determined according to the performance of existing sensors. To solve this problem, a method to effectively reduce noise has been proposed, but there is a point in which performance is degraded due to damage caused by noise. In this paper, a device capable of collecting time series data was designed to correct such data noise, and a correction technique was performed by giving an error value based on the representatively collected ultrafine dust data, and then comparing before and after Compare performance. For the correction method, Kalman, LPF, Savitzky-Golay, and Moving Average filter were used. Savitzky-Golay filter and Moving Average Filter showed excellent correction rate as an experiment. Through this, the performance of the sensor can be supplemented and it is expected that data can be effectively collected.
