대역폭 할당을 통한 Foundation Fieldbus 통신망 설계 (Network Design of Foundation Fieldbus using a Bandwidth Allocation Scheme)

  • The data link layer of Foundation Fieldbus is operated on the basis of scheduling and token-passing disciplines. This paper presents a network design method of Foundation Fieldbus using a bandwidth allocation scheme. Fieldbus traffic consists of periodic data and sporadically generated time-critical and time-available data. The bandwidth allocation scheme schedules the transmission of periodic data. Time-critical and time-available data are transmitted via a token-passing service. The validity of this bandwidth allocation scheme is determined using an experimental model of a network system. The results obtained from the experimental model show that the proposed scheme restricts the delay of both periodic and time-critical data to a pre-specified bound. The proposed bandwidth allocation scheme also fully utilizes the bandwidth resource of the network system.

  • ATM ABR service controls network traffic using feedback information on the network congestion situation in order to guarantee the demanded service qualities and the available cell rates. In this paper we apply the control method using queue length prediction to the formation of feedback information for more efficient ABR traffic control. If backward node receive the longer delayed feedback information on the impending congestion, the switch can be already congested from the uncontrolled arriving traffic and the fluctuation of queue length can be inefficiently high in the continuing time intervals. The feedback control method proposed in this paper predicts the queue length in the switch using the slope of queue length prediction function and queue length changes in time-series. The predicted congestion information is backward to the node. NLMS and neural network are used as the predictive control functions, and they are compared from performance on the queue length prediction. Simulation results show the efficiency of the proposed method compared to the feedback control method without the prediction. Therefore, we conclude that the efficient congestion and stability of the queue length controls are possible using the prediction scheme that can resolve the problems caused from the longer delays of the feedback information.

  • 광 네트워크 기술의 발달로 인해 오늘날 대부분의 네트워크는 수십 Gb/s를 지원한다. UDT(UDP-based Data Transfer protocol)는 대역폭과 지연시간이 큰 네트워크 환경에서 대용량 데이터 전송을 위한 프로토콜이다. 그러나 UDT는 고정된 sync-interval(0.01초) 간격으로 주기적인 rate control을 실행한다. 네트워크 트래픽 상태의 변화가 심한 환경에서는 sync-interval 동안 가용 대역폭을 충분히 활용하지 못하는 문제점이 발생한다. 본 논문은 sync-interval 구간에서 네트워크 트래픽 상태에 적응적인 rate control 기법을 제안한다. 네트워크 트래픽 상태는 RTT 변화를 바탕으로 판단한다. 제안 기법은 네트워크 상태를 4개의 구간으로 설정하여 패킷 sending period를 조절함으로써 rate control을 수행한다. 시뮬레이션 결과를 통하여 기존 UDT에 비해 throughput 과 안정성이 향상되었음을 보였다.

패킷 CDMA 망에서 음성/데이타 통합 서비스를 위한 MAC 프로토콜 (A MAC Protocol for the Integrated Voice/Data Services in Packet CDMA Network)

  • 본 논문에서는 음성과 데이타를 통합 서비스하기 위한 패킷 CDMA 망에서 확산코드 감지기법과 예약 기법을 적용한 MAC 프로토콜을 제안하고, 이에 대한 성능을 분석했다. 지연에 민감한 음성트래픽에 더 높은 우선순위를 부여하여 음성 트래픽인 경우에는 발음구간 동안 예약되지 않은 임의의 확산코드를 예약하여 서비스된다. 반면, 데이타 트래픽은 매 패킷이 발생할 때마다 음성 단말기가 사용하지 않는 임의의 확산코드를 선택하여 패킷을 전송한다. 성능분석의 결과, 본 논문에서 제안한 기법은 음성과 데이타 패킷간의 충돌이 전혀 발생하지 않기 때문에 수용 가능한 최대 음성 단말기 수를 증가시킬 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 반면, 데이타 트래픽인 경우에는 음성 트래픽보다 낮은 우선순위로 인하여 음성 트래픽의 부하에 상당히 민감한 성능을 나타냈지만, 채널의 수를 증가시킴에 따라 비교적 안정적인 성능을 얻을 수 있었다.

  • 무선 메쉬 네트워크(Wireless Mesh Network; WMN)는 넓은 지역에 저렴한 비용으로 인프라 구축을 통해 무선 인터넷 서비스를 제공할 수 있는 기술로 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 하지만 무선 메쉬 네트워크에서는 무선 통신환경의 특성인 높은 오류율, 불안정한 채널 특성, 제한적인 대역폭 등의 문제를 가지고 있다. 이러한 문제점을 최소화하기 위해 다양한 라우팅 기술들이 연구되고 있다. 기존 라우팅 기술들의 경로 설정 기술은 채널 품질이 우수한 노드에 트래픽이 집중되거나 특정 노드에 부하가 집중되어 네트워크 성능이 저하되는 문제가 야기되었다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 실제 전송 가능한 대역폭 정보와 링크 당 부하 정보를 고려한 새로운 라우팅 메트릭을 제안하고, 이를 기존 링크 품질 기반 라우팅 알고리즘에 적용하여 성능 평가를 위한 모의실험을 수행하였다. 성능평가 결과 기존의 라우팅 메트릭을 사용할 때 보다 전송 지연, 전송률 패킷 손실 등의 성능 향상이 가능함을 확인할 수 있었다.

광통신망 구축의 효과적인 설계 및 MAC고려 요소 (The Efficiency Design & MAC Function of the Composition Optical Network)

  • The paper describes SR3 (Synchronous Round Robin with Reservations), a collision-free medium access control protocol for all-optical slotted packet networks based on WDM multi-channel ring topologies where nodes are equipped with one fixed-wavelength receiver and one wavelength-tunable transmitter SR3 is derived from the SRR and MMR protocols previously proposed by the same authors for the same class of all-optical networks. SRR and MMR already achieve an efficient exploitation of the available bandwidth, while guaranteeing a throughput-fair access to each node. SR3, In addition, allows nodes to reserve slots. thereby achieving a stronger control on access delays; it is thus well suited to meet tight delay requirements, as it is the case for multimedia applications. Simulation results show that SR3 provides very good performance to guaranteed qualify traffic, but also brings signigicant performance improvements for best-effort traffic. Energy effciency is an important issue for optical network since they must rely on their batteries. We present a novel MAC protocol that achieves a good energy efficiency of optical interface of the network and provides support for diverse traffic types and QoS. The scheduler of the base station is responsible to provide the required QoS to connections on the optical link and to minimise the amount of energy spend by the High speed Network. The main principles of the MaC protocol are to avoid unsuccessful actions, minimise the number of transitions , and synchronise the mobile and the base-station. We will show that considerable amounts of energy can be saved using these principles.

Intelligent Massive Traffic Handling Scheme in 5G Bottleneck Backhaul Networks

  • With the widespread deployment of the fifth-generation (5G) communication networks, various real-time applications are rapidly increasing and generating massive traffic on backhaul network environments. In this scenario, network congestion will occur when the communication and computation resources exceed the maximum available capacity, which severely degrades the network performance. To alleviate this problem, this paper proposed an intelligent resource allocation (IRA) to integrate with the extant resource adjustment (ERA) approach mainly based on the convergence of support vector machine (SVM) algorithm, software-defined networking (SDN), and mobile edge computing (MEC) paradigms. The proposed scheme acquires predictable schedules to adapt the downlink (DL) transmission towards off-peak hour intervals as a predominant priority. Accordingly, the peak hour bandwidth resources for serving real-time uplink (UL) transmission enlarge its capacity for a variety of mission-critical applications. Furthermore, to advance and boost gateway computation resources, MEC servers are implemented and integrated with the proposed scheme in this study. In the conclusive simulation results, the performance evaluation analyzes and compares the proposed scheme with the conventional approach over a variety of QoS metrics including network delay, jitter, packet drop ratio, packet delivery ratio, and throughput.

  • End-to-end congestion control mechanism have been critical to the robustness and stability of the Internet. Most of today's Internet traffic is TCP, and we expect this to remain so in the future. TCP/IP is the intermediate transport layer candidate for today's applications. TCP uses an adaptive window-based flow control. The congestion avoidance and control algorithms deployed by TCP aims at using the available network bandwidth.   • Distributed control system architecture is adopted for I&C systems of Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor, where the geographically distributed control systems are connected to centralized servers & display stations via switched Ethernet networks. TCP/IP communication plays a significant role in the successful operations of this architecture. The communication tasks at control nodes are taken care by TCP/IP offload modules; local area switched network is realized using layer-2/3 switches, which are finally connected to network interfaces of centralized servers & display stations. Safety, security, reliability, and fault tolerance of control systems used for safety-related applications of nuclear power plants is ensured by indigenous design and qualification as per guidelines laid down by regulatory authorities. In the case of commercially available components, appropriate suitability analysis is required for getting the operation clearances from regulatory authorities. This paper details the proposed approach for the suitability analysis of TCP/IP communication nodes, including control systems at the field, network switches, and servers/display stations. Development of test platform using commercially available tools and diagnostics software engineered for control nodes/display stations are described. Each TCP link behavior with impaired packets and multiple traffic loads is described, followed by benchmarking of the network switch's routing characteristics and security features.
