In-House Developed Surface-Guided Repositioning and Monitoring System to Complement In-Room Patient Positioning System for Spine Radiosurgery

  • Purpose: This study aimed to develop a surface-guided radiosurgery system customized for a neurosurgery clinic that could be used as an auxiliary system for improving the accuracy, monitoring the movements of patients while performing hypofractionated radiosurgery, and minimizing the geometric misses. Methods: RGB-D cameras were installed in the treatment room and a monitoring system was constructed to perform a three-dimensional (3D) scan of the body surface of the patient and to express it as a point cloud. This could be used to confirm the exact position of the body of the patient and monitor their movements during radiosurgery. The image from the system was matched with the computed tomography (CT) image, and the positional accuracy was compared and analyzed in relation to the existing system to evaluate the accuracy of the setup. Results: The user interface was configured to register the patient and display the setup image to position the setup location by matching the 3D points on the body of the patient with the CT image. The error rate for the position difference was within 1-mm distance (min, -0.21 mm; max, 0.63 mm). Compared with the existing system, the differences were found to be as follows: x=0.08 mm, y=0.13 mm, and z=0.26 mm. Conclusions: We developed a surface-guided repositioning and monitoring system that can be customized and applied in a radiation surgery environment with an existing linear accelerator. It was confirmed that this system could be easily applied for accurate patient repositioning and inter-treatment motion monitoring.

속도-응력 변분식을 이용한 3차원 SEM 탄성파 수치 모사에 대한 ADE-PML경계조건의 적용 (Application of ADE-PML Boundary Condition to SEM using Variational Formulation of Velocity-Stress 3D Wave Equation)

  • 탄성파 수치 모형 계산에 있어서 다양한 방법들이 개발되어 적용되었다. 최근에는 특히 탄성파 수치 모형 계산에 있어 혁신적인 방법인 SEM (Spectral Element Method)가 개발되어 사용되어 왔다. 이 방법은 지형을 자유롭게 표현하는데 있어 유연한 유한요소법의 장점에 정확성을 높인 방법이다. 일반적으로 Weak Formulation 형태의 파동방정식에 육면체 요소와 Gauss-Lobatto-Legendre 적분법을 적용한 방법이 널리 사용된다. 일반적인 SEM에서는 PML (Perfectly Matched Layer)경계조건을 적용하기 어려워 속도-응력 변분식으로 파동방정식을 변경하였다. CFS-PML (Complex frequency Shifted PML)경계조건을 ADE (Auxiliary Differential Equation)방정식으로 변경하여 속도-응력 파동방정식에 적용함으로써 분리할 필요가 없는 PML을 적용한 SEM 수치 모형 계산 알고리듬을 구현하였다. 1차원 수치모형과 3차원 수치모형 실험을 통하여 SEM에 적용한 비분리 CFS-PML이 유한경계에서 인공적으로 반사되는 반사파를 효과적으로 제거하는 것을 확인하였다.

  • IR CAT Scan 개발을 위한 기하학적 역 열전도 문제의 해를 경계요소법 및 정규화 과정을 사용하여 구하였다. 이 문제에서는 잉여기술된 온도조건이 적외선 스캐닝에 의해 표면에 주어지며, 이 조건은 다른 조건과 함께 미지경계의 위치를 계산하는데 사용되었다. 문제의 해를 구하기 위해 보조문제가 도입되었고, 이 보조문제의 영역에 대한 가상적인 내부경계를 정의함으로써 공동(cavity)이 영역 내부에 위치하게 되며, 포텐셜 문제의 해를 구하여 그 위치를 결정하였다 이 문제의 해를 구하기 위해 경계요소법이 정규화과정과 함께 사용되었으며, 수치해석을 통하여 역 해법에 대한 정규화 효과를 분석하였다.

연구로 2호기 동위원소생산시설 해체활동 평가 (Evaluation on the Dismantling Activities of the KRR-2 Radioisotope Production Facilities)

  • 연구로 1,2호기 해체 사업이 본격적으로 착수하게 됨에 따라 2001년 8월부터 2002년 12월까지 연구로 2호기 부속시설인 동위원소 생산시설을 제염 및 해체하였다. 이 시설은 동위원소 생산용 콘크리트 핫셀, 납 핫셀 및 실험실로 구성되어 있다. 제염ㆍ해체의 대상물은 흄후드, 실험대, 씽크 및 오염된 내부 시설물이다. 안전한 해체 활동을 위해서 각종 지침서 및 절차서가 수립되었다. 해체 활동을 위해 총 20,933 man-hour의 인력이 소요되었고, 드릴링 머신 등 여러 장비가 투입되었다. 실험실에서의 최대 오염도는 유리성 오염도가 $\beta$ : 9.24 Bq/$\textrm{cm}^2$이였고, 고착성 오염도는 350,000 cpm이였다. 해체폐기물은 콘크리트류, 목재류 및 철재류 등으로 총 62.146 Ton이고, 작업자들의 피폭량은 0.33 mam-mSv로 나타났다.

  • The precision stage using a novel contact-free planar actuator based on magnetic farces, magnetized force and Lorentz farce, is suggested. In the promising magnetic structure, the mover is driven directly without any transmission mechanism, and doesn't need any auxiliary driver for its posture calibration. Then it is estimated that the proposed operating principle is very suitable for work requiring high accuracy and cleanness, or general-purpose nano-stage. In this paper, we discuss a driving principle of the planar system including the magnetic force generation mechanism, a framework for the force model, governing characteristics of the levitated plate, and a planar motion control of the constructed prototype. And experimental results are given to verify the derived theoretical model and a feasibility of the system.

대형 차량용 유압식 리타더의 유동 특성에 관한 수치해석적 연구 (Numerical Analysis Study on the Fluid Flow Characteristics of Hydraulic Retarder for Heavy Vehicles)

  • This study examined the fluid flow characteristics of a hydraulic retarder adapted as an auxiliary brake for heavy vehicles. The commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software STAR-CCM+ was used to investigate the torque performance and flow characteristics of the hydraulic retarder. The numerical results showed that the pressure distribution was higher near the inner wall surface of the rotor and stator. The pressure of the working fluid increased in the radial direction of the rotor and stator. The variation in the fluid velocity intensity showed a similar trend to that of the fluid pressure, but the maximum velocity appeared near the outer wall surface of the rotor and stator interface. The numerical results showed that increasing the revolution speed of the retarder greatly increased the rate of torque generation.

스퍼 유성감속기 기반 선박용 터닝기어의 설계 변경 (Design Modification of Marine Turning Gear Based on Spur Planetary Gear)

  • A marine turning gear controls the position of the piston-crank mechanism by rotating the flywheel of the marine engine at a low speed, which is the main auxiliary machine that enables the disassembly and maintenance of the engine. In this study, the safety factor for surface durability and tooth bending strength was improved by the design modification of the marine turning gear based on the spur planetary gear. Angular velocity, torque, and efficiency of the turning gear were measured using a reliability evaluation tester, and a multibody dynamics model for analysis corresponding to the test results was developed. Finally, it was confirmed that the design improvements improved the tooth surface damage of the sun gear in the 3rd reduction stage.

여름철 환경에서 팬이 있는 조끼의 인체 착용 효과 (Analysis of the Effects of Vests with Fan in Summer Environments)

  • This study analyzed the effect of wearing a vest with an attached electric fan. Korean men in their 20s were given test "fan vests" equipped with fans on the chest, stomach, upper back, or lower back to wear. Participants wore them in a climate chamber set to replicate a summer environment (30±3℃, 75±1%RH, 0.2 m/sec). Subjective sensations and surface temperatures were measured. The attached fan on the front of the vest lowered the temperature of the vest and the skin surface where the fan was positioned, regardless of whether the wearer engaged in exercise. However, a fan attached to the lower back of the vest was effective in lowering the lower back of the vest as well as the upper back, back of the arm, and back of the neck. In addition, subjective evaluations indicated that a vest with fans attached to the stomach and lower back provided a cool sensation. However, it was confirmed that the design of an auxiliary tool capable of dispersing the weight is necessary since the weight of the fans can interfere with the comfort of wearing the vest.

HIGH COOLING WATER TEMPERATURE EFFECTS ON DESIGN AND OPERATIONAL SAFETY OF NPPS IN THE GULF REGION

  • The Arabian Gulf region has one of the highest ocean temperatures, reaching above 35 degrees and ambient temperatures over 50 degrees in the summer. Two nuclear power plants (NPP) are being introduced in the region for the first time, one at Bushehr (1,000 MWe PWR plant from Russia), and a much larger one at Barakah (4X1,400 MWe PWR from Korea). Both plants take seawater from the Gulf for condenser cooling, having to modify the secondary/tertiary side cooling systems design by increasing the heat transfer surface area from the country of origin. This paper analyses the secondary side of a typical PWR plant operating under the Rankine cycle with a simplified thermal-hydraulic model. Parametric study of ocean cooling temperatures is conducted to estimate thermal efficiency variations and its associated design changes for the secondary side. Operational safety is reviewed to deliver rated power output with acceptable safety margins in line with technical specifications, mainly in the auxiliary systems together with the cooling water temperature. Impact on the Gulf seawater as the ultimate heat sink is considered negligible, affecting only the adjacent water near the NPP site, when compared to the solar radiation on the sea surface.

HVAC 상실사고시 울진원전 3/4 호기의 보조급수펌프 격실 온동상승 평가 (Heat-up Calculation for the Auxiliary Feed Water Pump Room at Ulchin Units 3 and 4 for Loss of HVAC Accidents)

  • 난방, 환기 및 공기조절(HVAC) 기능이 상실된 사고의 경우, 보조급수를 위한 모터-구동 펌프격실의 온도상승을 전산유체역학 분석을 통해 평가하였다. 닫힌 펌프격실의 과도 계산결과, 8 시간 동안 공간-평균된 공기온도는 $60^{\circ}C$ 정도의 상승이 예상된다. 외기 온도 및 외부 온도는 이전 계산결과로부터 초기 $35^{\circ}C$에서 시작하여 서서히 증가한다고 가정하였다. 격실 문이 사고발생 후 약 2, 4, 그리고 6시간 경과 시점에서 열릴 경우, 체적-평균 격실 내가 온도는 약 $4^{\circ}C$의 즉각적인 하강이 나타나며 이후 서서히 온도가 상승하는 장기 거동을 보인다. 전산유체역학을 적용한 현재의 상세 해석결과는 이전의 집중(lumped) 모델을 사용한 보수적인 계산결과에 비해 낮은 격실온도 상승률을 예측한다.
