  • Autonomous driving is no longer atechnology of the future since the development of autonomous vehicles has now been realized, and many technologies have already been developed for the convenience of drivers. For example, autonomous vehicles are one of the most important drive assistant systems. Among these many drive assistant systems, Cruise Control Systems are now a typical technology. This system constantly maintains a vehicle's speed and distance from a vehicle in front by using Radar or LiDAR sensors in real time. Cruise Control Systems do not only serve their original role, but also fulfill another role as a 'Driving Safety' measure as they can detect a situation that a driver did not predict and can intervene by assuming a vehicle's longitude control. However, these systems have the limitation of only focusing on driver safety. Therefore, in this paper, an Intelligent Cruise Control System that utilizes the path planning method and GIS is proposed to overcome some existing limitations.

  • Driver acceptance of autonomous driving is very important. The autonomous driving longitudinal controller, which is one of the factors affecting acceptability, consists of a high-level controller and a low-level controller. The host controller decides the cruise control and the space control according to the situation and creates the required target speed. The sub-controller performs control by creating an acceleration signal to follow the target speed. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to improve the inter-vehicle distance fluctuations that occur in the cruise control and space control switching problems in the host controller. The proposed method is to add an approach algorithm to the cruise control at the time of switching from cruise control to space control so that it is switched to space control at the correct switching distance. Through this, the error was improved from 12m error to 4m, and actual vehicle verification was performed.

  • Cruise control is a technology for automatically maintaining a steady speed of vehicle as set by the driver via controlling throttle valve and brake of vehicle. In this paper we investigate cruise controller design method with consideration for distance to vehicle ahead. We employ linear time varying (LTV) model to describe longitudinal vehicle dynamic motion. With this LTV system we approximately model the nonlinear dynamics of vehicle speed by frequent update of the system parameters. In addition we reformulate the LTV system by transforming distance to leading vehicle into variation of system parameters of the model. Note that in conventional control problem formulation this distance is considered as disturbance which should be rejected. Consequently a controller can be designed by pole placement at each instance of parameter update, based on the linear model with the present system parameters. The validity of this design method is examined by simulation study.

  • This paper contains studies which are Cruise speed control which is made by PID algorithm and automated steering system for avoiding the obstacle coming from the front which is using Fuzzy algorithm. This mobile car uses DC motor whose speed is detected by encoder. Ultrasonic Waves Sensor established in the front detects the obstacle and the curve. And the sensor established in the side detects the distance of the space of the road. If the sensor detects the obstacle or the curve, the car is controlled by using Fuzzy algorithm. The Fuzzy algorithm calculates the speed and steering angle by using the value which is obtained from sensor.

  • Recent development in science and technology has enabled vehicles to be equipped with advanced autonomous functions. ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) are examples of such advanced autonomous systems added. Advanced systems have several operational modes and it has been observed that drivers could be unaware of the mode they are in during vehicle operation, which can be a contributing factor of traffic accidents. In this study, possible mode confusions in a simulated environment when vehicles are equipped with an adaptive cruise control system were investigated. The mental model of the system was designed and verified using the formal analysis method. Then, the user interface was designed on the basis of those of the current cruise control systems. A set of human-in-loop experiments was conducted to observe possible mode confusions and redesign the user interface to reduce them. In conclusion, the clarity and transparency of the user interface was proved to be as important as the correctness and compactness of the mental model when reducing mode confusions.

  • In recent years, much attention has been paid to the development of intelligent vehicles that integrate automotive technology into the information technology, with the aim of improving user friendliness and stability. The representative function is a autonomous driving and a cruise control. In designing such vehicles, it is critical to address the real-time issues (i.e., real-time vehicle control and timely response). However, previous research excluded the real-time scheduling. We develop a model car with unmanned cruise control, design the real-time scheduler using cyclic executive to easily adapt the model car, and provide some insight into potential solutions based on various experiments.

  • In Advanced Vehicle Control System(AVCS), Autonomous Intelligent Cruise Control(AICC) is generally understood to be a system that can be achieved in the near future without the demanding infrastructure components and technoloties. AICC is an automatic vehicle following system with no human engagement in the longitudinal vehicle direction. This paper presents a fuzzy control algorithm to develop the AICC system. The control performance was studied information of vehicles using computer simulations. The most improtant aspects of the work reported here are the adoption of the fuzzy adaptive control law, and the use of filtering concept to reduce the slinky effects that may appear in a formation of vehicles equipped with AICC systems. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the fuzzy adaptive AICC system and its beneficial effects on traffic flow.
