A Study on Quality Assurance of Suppliers in the Automotive Industry (자동차산업에 있어서 부품업체 품질보증에 관한 고찰)

  • In this paper, the trend of quality management system that suppliers in the automotive industry are adopting, the classification system of suppliers and car manufacturers requirements for quality are described. Due to the complexity of the requirements for quality, the introduction of an active quality management system which can meet all conditions is a difficult task. Thus, to cope with this difficulty, this paper shows the optimal requirements that suppliers have to consider when they are introducing quality management system and the discriminated strategies to assure parts quality by supplier model.

  • In or automotive engineering education is introduced. Main objective of the system is teaching disassemble/assemble procedure of automatic transmission of a vehicle to students, who study automotive engineering. System includes vehicle transmission, set of tools and mechanical facilities, two video cameras, computer with developed software, HMD glasses and two LCD screens. Developed software gives instructions on assembling and disassembling processes of real vehicle transmission with the help of augmenting virtual reality objects on the video stream. Overlaying of 3D instructions on the technological workspace can be used as an interactive educational material. In disassembling process, mechanical parts which should be disassembled are augmented on video stream from video cameras. Same is done for assembling process. Animation and other visual effects are applied for better indication of the current assembling/disassembling instruction. During learning and training, student can see what parts of vehicle transmission and in which order should be assembled or disassembled. Required tools and technological operations are displayed to a student with the help of augmented reality, as well. As a result, the system guides a student step-by-step through an assembly/disassembly sequence. During educational process a student has an opportunity to return back to any previous instruction if it is necessary. Developed augmented reality system makes educational process more interesting and intuitive. Using of augmented reality system for engineering education in automotive technology makes learning process easier and financially more effective.

Numerical Evaluation of Hemming Defects Found on Automotive Door Panels (유한요소해석에 의한 자동차 도어패널의 헤밍 결함 평가)

  • Hemming is used to connect two sheet metal components by folding the edge of an outer panel around an inner panel to create a smooth edge. The minimization of hemming defects is critical to the final quality of automobile products because hemming is one of the last operations during fabrication. Designing the hemmed part is not easy and is influenced by the geometry of the bent part. Therefore, the main problem for automotive parts is dimensional accuracy since formed products often deviate geometrically due to large springback. Few numerical approaches using 3-dimensional finite element model have been applied to hemming due to the small element size which is needed to properly capture the bending behavior of the sheet around small die corner and the comparatively big size of automotive opening parts, such as doors, hoods and deck lids. The current study concentrates on the 3-dimensional numerical simulation of hemming for an automotive door. The relationship between the design parameters of the hemming operation and the height difference defect is shown. Quality improvement of the automotive door can be increased through the study of model parameters.

  • Automotive seat recliner has the function to control the angle at the back of chair and has the relation close to the safety of seat. Therefore each of parts constituting the recliner is important and the recliner housing to protect these parts from various dynamic loads is also important. In this study, the recliner housing with t=3mm which is made of high tension steel plate(SPFC 980) is applied to actual automotive seat. The deformation is investigated through the durability tester. Deformation and equivalent stress are also analyzed by simulation analysis under the same condition with experiment. After recliners with thicknesses of 1mm and 2mm are modeled by bases of experimental and analysis values, deformation and equivalent stress are investigated through structural analysis.

  • A-pillar is closely related to safety for the purpose of protecting the bodies of passengers by mitigating the impact that may be caused by the vehicle being overturned while driving. Therefore, the A-pillar should protect these parts from a variety of dynamic loads. This study result is thought to contribute for the strength and durability of A-pillar by designing two types of parts before making this product and analyzing the product which thickness is adjusted for the light weight of vehicle. If this study result is practically applied to the parts of A-pillar in a car, it is considered that the damage can be protected by the durability verification of design. By utilizing the data of analysis and design on the strength and durability of automotive A-pillar in this study, the esthetic sense can be given by being grafted onto the real automotive part.

  • Automotive manufacturers lay their eyes on the new manufacturing technologies because of the strengthened competition. Among them, a simultaneous forming is one of the innovative forming technologies to be able to reduce production time and cost. Several parts can be simultaneous manufactured by process, while the conventional stamping demands the same number of die sets with the number of parts. In this study, the automotive front side member was manufactured by the simultaneous forming. The position and the size of initial blank were determined by forming analysis and try-outs, and the blank movement during the forming was controlled by introducing the pilot pin.

  • Automatic measurement system is required since cycle time and cost of production are increased by various factors in manual systems. This paper presents a machine vision based prototype measurement system for the automotive axisymmetric shape parts which are generally measured by a manual system that is required the tolerance of the part is very small on each machined surface. This measurement system adopts a method in which optical lens is transferred along the profile of the part to minimize measurement cycle time. The main interest of this paper is a development of an optimum measurement algorithm to the outside diameter of the parts that can be applied to various combinations of hardware. The operating system used to implement the whole system is Window XP and corresponding environment.

  • This paper studied performance characteristics of hybrid automotive to replace existing fossil fuel vehicles. Specially, about power split type HEV that is T-HEV's drive system when a vehicle drives at steady speed, monitored both output of each engine, motor and generator and battery SOC (state of charge) and analyzed performance characteristic of power transmission system and electricity power parts. This study shows those that acquired and analyzed information from signals between HCU and each controller of actual T- vehicle. From this study, it is confirmed that each conditions of EV and HEV drive can be a improvement with respect to the fuel efficiency of vehicles.

  • The CEO leadership and employee's concerning and participation to quality management innovation activity is critical factor for improving the business performance. This empirical study is aims to find that whether the quality management activity is significant or not in the automotive parts suppliers. To perform this research, we distributed 250 sheets totally, and withdraw 194 sheets. We analysed 169 sheets that we could use for this research using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. We had the results that CEO leadership is significantly positive effects on the employees's participation to quality management. And the result of process improvement have positively effective and significant effects on the product improvement result and business performance of firms.

  • TPOs based on polypropylene has been dominating materials in hard automotive parts such as in bumper fascia, instrumental panel and door trim panel owing to their variety of advantages compared to engineering plastics and steels for years. Recently as environmental regulations related to recycle have been strengthened, the use of TPOs in soft automotive parts such as instrument panel skin and door trim skin is being required much more.. Therefore, in this study, we' d like to give an overview of soft TPOs and introduce soft TPO materials requirement and preferable materials composition by vacuum thermoforming and powder slush molding, respectively.
