자동차 헤드라이트용 고압방전등 안정기 시스템의 새로운 점등방식 (Novel Ignition Method for Automotive HID lamp Ballast System)

  • This paper presents novel ignition method for automotive 35W metal halide discharge lamp electronic ballast. At this study, the novel method of ignition is developed to reduce costs and size of the ballast. By use of the novel method, the voltage needed in ignition is decreased, which result in use of the lower voltage rating power devices compared with conventional method and product compactness was achieved by deleting a circuit generating negative voltage needed in ignition at an conventional circuit. In terms of luminosity, color rendering, light efficiency(lm/W) and lifespan, the metal halide lamp is superior to, but unlike halogen lamp, it have more complicated transient characteristics to reach its steady state than the conventional halogen lamp. Therefore, in this paper, the electronic ballast was designed such that the metal halide lamp could be optimized for the automotive, by applying a method of microcontroller-based digital control. The results of the proposed system is verified through various experiment results.

  • This paper presents a high-frequency electronic ballast for HID lamps. A new fixed frequency dimming method with low EMI features is developed in this research. The proposed electronic ballast has the advantages of high power density, simple circuit and low EMI features. The circuit operating principle and design procedures are described in detail. A laboratory prototype was built and tested. The simulation and experimental waveforms verify the feasibility of the proposed scheme.

평면 변압기를 이용한 자동차용 고압방전등 안정기 시스템 (Automotive HID Ballast System Using Planar Transformer)

  • 본 논문에서는 새로운 제어방식과 평면 변압기(planar transformer)를 이용한 자동차용 35W급 메탈헬라이드 램프용 고효율 전자식 안정기의 제어시스템을 제안하였다. 본 논문에서는 밝기, 연색성, 광효율, 수명 등에서 기존의 할로겐 램프에 비해 우수한 특성을 가지고 있지만 복잡한 과도특성을 가지고 있는 메탈헬라이드 램프를 자동차에 적용하기 위해 마이크로컨트롤러에 의한 디지털 제어방식을 전자식 안정기에 적용하여 램프 요구조건 및 주변 환경에 최적으로 적용할 수 있도록 전자식 안정기를 설계하였다. 또한, 자동차의 밧데리 입력전압에 따라 안정기 컨버터(Flyback Converter)의 스위칭 주파수를 가변하여 안정기의 효율증대를 도모하였고, 컨버터의 고주파 스위칭 변압기를 평면 형태로 설계하여, 기존의 고주파 변압기에 비해 손실, 무게 등의 절감과 전체적인 크기를 축소하여, 밧데리라는 한정된 에너지와 한정된 공간을 갖는 자동차에서 효율적인 전력제어를 실현하였다. 개발된 안정기에 대한 동작특성을 실험을 통해 확인하였다.

  • This paper presents design and analysis of an HID lamp ballast for a fast turn on characteristics and stable operation. It produces a high open circuit voltage for the ignition and it is controlled to supply effectively the power required to shorten the warm-up period after the breakdown. The lamp modeling by empirical data is presented. It is very effective in the designing of the control loop in the steady-state operating region. A stable operation of the lamp power regulation in the steady state is achieved, which is crucial for the long life time and constant light output. Stability analysis of the system is performed and the results are verified through various simulation results and the hardware experiments.

  • This paper presents an adaptive control scheme of a ballast for HID lamp for an automotive headlight. A flyback converter is used for the voltage step-up and for the control. A full bridge inverter is used as a ballast topology. The proposed control method is an adaptive output power control with a charge control. The developed ballast satisfies the requirement of a fast warm up characteristics and operating stability for an automotive application.
