Site Selection using Port and Industry Clusters (제조산업의 항만클러스터 입지선정 모형에 관한 연구 - 수도권을 중심으로 -)

  • This paper aims to clarify if clustering effects among industries exist and if port-industry clustering effects exist. A knock-down approach was used in a survey and 16 industries were categorized. We defined which industry is more competitive in industry clusters and port-industry clusters. Another survey to experts was carried out to identify which industry is more appropriate to one of the three ports in Sudokwon (Seoul Metropolitan Areas): Incheon port, Pyungtaik port and Dangjin port. Five manufacturing industries are selected considering port-industry clustering relationships in this area and Analytic Hierarch Process was used for a pairwise comparison. Locational, social and economic factors are selected for 1st level. A result shows that Incheon port is more competitive in petroleum manufacturing, primary metal manufacturing and rubber and plastic manufacturing and Pyeontaik port is more competitive in metal assembly manufacturing and automobile and trailer manufacturing. However, sensitivity analysis shows a turnover of ranking in some industries. As there exist slight differences among three ports, cooperation is necessary when the government and Port Authorities make plans.

The Origin-Destination analysis of KORUS trade volume using spatial information (공간정보를 활용한 한-미 교역액의 기종점 분석)

  • The Government of Korea has always focused on developing and maintaining a surplus on the balance of payments as a successful trade policy. The focus should now be on spatial information hiding, revealing patterns in trade activities that enable viewing trade in a more sophisticated manner. This study utilizes trade statistical data such as the United States-South Korea imports and exports from 2003 to 2015 officially released by the two countries. It allows us to analyze and extract the spatial information pertaining to the origin, transit, and destination. First, in the case of export data to the United States, the origin of the trade goods has expanded and decentralized from the metropolitan area. With regard to transit, in 2003, most of the exported goods were shipped by ocean vessels and arrived at the ports on the western coast of the United States. However, trade patterns have changed over the 12-year period and now more of that trade has moved to the southern ports of the United States. In terms of destination, California and Texas were importing goods from South Korea. With the development of the automotive industry in Georgia and Alabama, these two states also imported huge volumes of automobile parts. Second, in case of import data, most imported goods from the United States originated from California and Texas. In this case, 40% of goods were shipped by air freight and arrived at the Incheon-Seoul International Airport; most ocean freight was handled at the Port of Busan. The purpose of this study is to decompose the spatial information from the trade statistics data between Korea and the United States and to depict visualized bilateral trade structure by origin, transit, and destination.

A Study on the Detection of the Rain Using Open-Ended Coaxial Cavity Resonator (한쪽 면이 열린 동축 공동 공진기를 이용한 빗물 감지에 관한 연구)

  • This paper is a study of a rain sensor using an open-ended coaxial cavity resonator which senses the amount of rain drops linearly. It shows that it will be used as a sensor to sense the amount of rain dropped on the windshield of an automobile based on the principle of varied resonant frequency and the loss according to the amount and characteristics of an dielectric lied on the open side of a resonator. The input and output ports are built in the both sides of the resonator and the input and output coupling probes are formed like 'ㄱ' shape. The response of rain drops were simulated by the radius of inner conductor of 2 mm, 5 mm, and 10 mm respectively and it showed that the raindrop was sensed most linearly and sensitively when the radius of inner conductor is 5 mm, We have measured that the resonant frequency have varied from 3.55 GHz to 3 GHz and the Q value have varied from 42.38 to 24.3 according to the variation of rain drop amount on the fabricated resonator. Therefore, it shows that the designed resonator can be applied as a rain sensor that measures the amount of rain drops linearly by using the resonant frequency as a measurement parameter.
