  • In this paper, we present measurement method of the amount of used piped water and the communications environment for automatic piped water meter reading. The existing piped water meter reading which is carried out by the human in person by monitoring the amount of use and recording make the problem of an error of the figure and being short of staffed to carry out piped water meter reading. To solve the existing problem in this paper, the amount of used piped water is converted into data type by Photo Interrupt Sensor, and IEEE 802.15.4 Protocol is used to confirm the measurement in remote place.

  • This paper is a study on development of a new structured AMR/AMI(automatic meter reading/advance metering infrastructure) system. The developed system has a faster reading and is cheaper and easier to install compared to the existing AMR/AMI system. The system can be applied to AMR/AMI for five kinds of meters, electricity, gas, water, hot-water and calorie meter, which are used in most Korean households. Test results show that the developed system is both economical and reliable both in theoretical and practical applications. The resuts also show that the developed system is more suitable than existing system for AMR/AMI applications.

  • This research developed a remote communication system for automatic water meter reading and charge calculation from the field of a house or apartment complexes within the same district. Developed system was applied to perform measurements of the pulse-sensing technology, the minimum power consumption, temperature compensation, short-range wireless communications technology, the handset and wireless communication capabilities of the DB management embedded software to efficiently control. Through this reading-related tasks that are required in a temporal, material and human resources can be minimized.

  • Inspection of an Electrical Meter is an action of measuring power usage to charge electricity rates and Electricity AMR(Automatic Meter Reading) is a system to automatize the action. AMR has been highlighted because it can reduce metering cost by substituting an automatic system for personnel and strengthen customer service. In this paper, we proposed and developed a smart card based AMR framework SCEMS as an alternative to other current AMR Models. This proposed SCEMS uses a java card based multi-application smart card and supports customer service such as various meter rates according to electricity consumption pattern data per household and transaction data that are accumulated in a smart card. This research can be a solution to the problems such as diversity, heterogeneity, and complexity that environmental changes will cause soon to the power supply industry.

  • A study on Automatic Meter Reading and Load Control System used to Distribution Line Carrer has started since 1986, and the field trial system for AMR and LCS was installed to KEPCO on June, 1988. Development of an Integrated Meter Reading Home Concentrate Device (통합 원격검침 지시장치 개발)

  • This paper highlights the home concentrate device(HCD) that integrates the data reading and display of the six types of meters (water, hot water, heating, cooling, gas and electricity) used in Korean residential areas. Unlike the conventional system which utilizes single MCU, the developed system uses two MCUs for one MCU to gather the meter readings and for the other MCU to communicate to the server computer. Hard ware design, communication protocols, LCD design and program structures are discussed and the test results are shown in this paper. With the implementation of integrated meter reading, the developed system can increase the popularity of automatic meter reading(AMR) with its better scalability, pricing, installation fee, maintenance and faster response.

Performance of Equalizer Schemes in Power Line Communication Systems for Automatic Metering Reading (자동 원격검침을 위한 전력선 통신 시스템에서의 등화 기법 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose and analyze the equalizer schemes, zero-forcing (ZF) and minimum mean square error (MMSE) in power line communication (PLC) system for automatic meter reading (AMR). For efficient implementation of AMR system with PLC, effects of impulsive noise and multipath channel should be mitigated. To overcome these effects, the above equalizer schemes are employed. System performance is evaluated in term of bit error rate. From simulation results, it is confirmed that the equalizer can significantly improve bit error rate (BER) performance in PLC system, and MMSE equalizer provides better performance than ZF scheme. The results of this paper can be applied to AMR system as well as various smart grid services using PLC.

  • Recently many efforts on the development of automatic processing system for delivery sequence sorting have been performed in ETRI, which requires the use of postal 4 state bar code system to encode delivery points. This paper addresses the issue on the reduction of reading error in postal 4 state raster beam based bar code reader by adjusting measured values of bar code width to its average value over each interval. The test results show that the above method reduces the average reading error rate approximately by 90-100%.
