An automatic visual classification system is introduced which provides for measuring the length and diameter of coilform cores and dividing them into 5 different classes in terms of how far their length be from the desired length. This task is fully automated by controlling two STEP motors and by using image processing techniques. The classification procedure is broken into three logical parts. Fist, cores in the form of randomly stacked bundle are lined up one by one so as to be well captured by a cameras. The second part involves capturing core image. Then, it enters the measuring process. Finally, this machine would retain all tire information relating to the length. According to the final result, cores are sent to the corresponding bin. This considerably simplifies the selecting task and facilitates a greatly improved reliability in precision. The average classifying capability about 2 pieces per second.
Development of automated document management system specified for scanned invoice images suffers from rigorous accuracy requirements for extraction of monetary data, which necessiate automatic validation on the extracted values for a generative invoice table model. Use of certain internal constraints such as "amount = unit price times quantity" is typical implementation. In this paper, we propose a noble invoice information extraction model with improved auto-validation method by utilizing table header detection and column classification.

Henry System which is a traditional fingerprint classification model is difficult to apply to a modem Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). To tackle this problem, this study is to apply algorithm for an An Ensemble Fingerprint Classroom System using changes of gradient of ridge in order to improve precise joining speed of a large volume of database. The existing classification system, Henry System, is useful in a captured fingerprint image of core point and delta point using paper and ink. However, the Henry System is unapplicable in modem Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) because of problems such as size of input sensor and way of input. This study is to suggest an Ensemble Fingerprint Classroom System which can classify 5 basic patterns of Henry System in uncaptured delta image using changes of gradient of ridge. The proposed fingerprint classification technique will make an improvement of precise joining speed by reducing data volume.
Digital image processing is a process to analyze a large volume of information on digital images. In this study, Artemia hatching rate was measured by automatically classifying and counting cysts and larvae based on color imaging data from cyst hatching experiments using an image processing technique. The Artemia hatching rate estimation consists of a series of processes; a step to convert the scanned image data to a binary image data, a process to detect objects and to extract their shape information in the converted image data, an analysis step to choose an optimal discriminant function, and a step to recognize and classify the objects using the function. The function to classify Artemia cysts and larvae is optimally estimated based on the classification performance using the areas and the plan-form factors of the detected objects. The hatching rate using the image data obtained under the different experimental conditions was estimated in the range of 34-48%. It was shown that the maximum difference is about 19.7% and the average root-mean squared difference is about 10.9% as the difference between the results using an automatic counting (this study) and a manual counting were compared. This technique can be applied to biological specimen analysis using similar imaging information.
Automatic facial expression recognition has many potential applications in different areas of human computer interaction. However, they are not yet fully realized due to the lack of an effective facial feature descriptor. In this paper, we present a new appearance-based feature descriptor, the local directional pattern (LDP), to represent facial geometry and analyze its performance in expression recognition. An LDP feature is obtained by computing the edge response values in 8 directions at each pixel and encoding them into an 8 bit binary number using the relative strength of these edge responses. The LDP descriptor, a distribution of LDP codes within an image or image patch, is used to describe each expression image. The effectiveness of dimensionality reduction techniques, such as principal component analysis and AdaBoost, is also analyzed in terms of computational cost saving and classification accuracy. Two well-known machine learning methods, template matching and support vector machine, are used for classification using the Cohn-Kanade and Japanese female facial expression databases. Better classification accuracy shows the superiority of LDP descriptor against other appearance-based feature descriptors.
Beijing-Arizona-Taipei-Connecticut (BATC) survey is a long term project to map the spectral energy distribution of various objects using 15 intermediate band filters and aims to cover about 450 sq degrees of northern sky. The SED information, combined with image structure information, is used to classify objects into several stellar and galaxy categories as well as QSO candidates. In this paper, we present a preliminary setup of robust data reduction procedure recently developed at NCU and also briefly discuss general classification scheme: redshift estimate, and automatic detection of variable objects.
Classification methods based on dual energy X-ray absorptiometry, ultrasonic waves, and quantitative computed tomography have been proposed. Also, a classification method based on machine learning with bone mineral density and structural indicators extracted from the CT images has been proposed. We propose a method which enhances the performance of existing classification method based on bone mineral density and structural indicators by extending structural indicators and using principal component analysis. Experimental result shows that the proposed method in this paper improves the correctness of osteoporosis classification 2.8% with extended structural indicators only and 4.8% with both extended structural indicators and principal component analysis. In addition, this paper proposes a method of automatic phantom analysis needed to convert the CT values to BMD values. While existing method requires manual operation to mark the bone region within the phantom, the proposed method detects the bone region automatically by detecting circles in the CT image. The proposed method and the existing method gave the same conversion formula for converting CT value to bone mineral density.

There have been many studies on red tide due to increasing damage from red tide on fishing and aquaculture industry. However, internal study of automatic red tide image classification is not enough. Recognition of red tide algae is difficult because they do not have matching center features for recognizing algae image object. Previously studies used a few type of red tide algae for image classification. In this paper, we proposed the red tide image recognition method using semantic features of NMF and roundness of image objects.

Breast cancer is among the cancers that may be healed as the disease diagnosed at early times before it is distributed through all the areas of the body. The Automatic Analysis of Diagnostic Tests (AAT) is an automated assistance for physicians that can deliver reliable findings to analyze the critically endangered diseases. Deep learning, a family of machine learning methods, has grown at an astonishing pace in recent years. It is used to search and render diagnoses in fields from banking to medicine to machine learning. We attempt to create a deep learning algorithm that can reliably diagnose the breast cancer in the mammogram. We want the algorithm to identify it as cancer, or this image is not cancer, allowing use of a full testing dataset of either strong clinical annotations in training data or the cancer status only, in which a few images of either cancers or noncancer were annotated. Even with this technique, the photographs would be annotated with the condition; an optional portion of the annotated image will then act as the mark. The final stage of the suggested system doesn't need any based labels to be accessible during model training. Furthermore, the results of the review process suggest that deep learning approaches have surpassed the extent of the level of state-of-of-the-the-the-art in tumor identification, feature extraction, and classification. in these three ways, the paper explains why learning algorithms were applied: train the network from scratch, transplanting certain deep learning concepts and constraints into a network, and (another way) reducing the amount of parameters in the trained nets, are two functions that help expand the scope of the networks. Researchers in economically developing countries have applied deep learning imaging devices to cancer detection; on the other hand, cancer chances have gone through the roof in Africa. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is a sort of deep learning that can aid you with a variety of other activities, such as speech recognition, image recognition, and classification. To accomplish this goal in this article, we will use CNN to categorize and identify breast cancer photographs from the available databases from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Sound-based machine fault diagnosis is the automatic detection of abnormal sound in the acoustic emission signals of the machines. Conventional methods of using mathematical models were difficult to diagnose machine failure due to the complexity of the industry machinery system and the existence of nonlinear factors such as noises. Therefore, we want to solve the problem of machine fault diagnosis as a deep learning-based image classification problem. In the paper, we propose a CNN-based automatic machine fault diagnosis method using Spectrogram images. The proposed method uses STFT to effectively extract feature vectors from frequencies generated by machine defects, and the feature vectors detected by STFT were converted into spectrogram images and classified by CNN by machine status. The results show that the proposed method can be effectively used not only to detect defects but also to various automatic diagnosis system based on sound.
