This study examined the effects of perceptual differences of safety leadership between managers and workers on workers' safety attitudes and behavior in two construction sites. In addition, the mediating role of safety attitude between safety leadership and safety behavior across discrepancy level of safety leadership. This study was conducted on two first-tier construction companies within the 100th place in 2019. Two companies were similar in size(100 - 150 billion won) and process from the basement frame finishing stage to start of the ground structure of apartment. In A Site, 40 managers and 73 workers, 42 managers and 77 workers in B site participated the survey on managers' safety leadership, and workers' safety attitude and behavior. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the safety leadership scores assessed by the manager and workers at site B. However, the safety leadership scores assessed by the managers were significantly higher than that by the workers at site A. The workers' safety attitudes and behaviors at site B were higher than those of workers at site A. Moreover, Site B was significantly higher in the effects of safety leadership on safety behavior than Site A. At site B, safety leadership had a significant influence on safety behavior even after controlling the safety attitude of workers. At site A, safety leadership had no significant effect on safety behavior after controlling safety attitude. These findings suggest that there is managers' self-serving bias on safety leadership in site A and that this bias of leadership can negatively affect workers' safety attitude and behaviors. In addition, it can be seen that if the self-serving bias on safety leadership occurs, the manager's safety leadership has less influence on workers' safety behavior.
The purpose of this study was to estimate the industrial worker's knowledge, attitude, and practice about occupational health and to provide the basic data for the development of industrial health services. The study was undertaken from January 15 to January 30, 1993. 549 industrial workers at the Industrial Complex located in Chonbuk Province were participated in this study. The results were as follows; 1. The Knowledge, Attitude and Practice leveles of Workers about Occupational Health. The levels were measured by five point scale. The mean score of knowledge was 2. 59 point out of 4. The mean score of attitude was 2.37 point out of 4. The mean score of practice was 2. 38 point out of 4. 2. The analysis of their knowledge" attitude, and practice about general characteristics. 1) There was significant difference among different age groups. $(P{\leqq}0.0001)$ -. The group of age 25-29 was the highest value in knowledge and attitude. -. The group of age over 50 was highest value in practice. 2) There was significant difference between sexual groups in all items. -. Male workers were higher than Female workers in all items. (P=0.0000) 3) There was significant difference according to the marital status in all items. -. Married workers were higher than Single workers in all items. (P = 0.0000) 4) There was significant difference among different groups of educational level in attitude and practice. (P<0.05) The value was positivly correlated to their educational level. 5) There was significant difference among the groups of job-part in knowledge and practice. (P=0.000, P=0.031) -. Office workers were higher than Production workers in all items. 6) There was significant difference among different group of job experience in knowledge and attitude. (P=0.0000. P=0.0387) The value was positively correlated to the years length of job experience. 7) There was significant difference among the groups of different monthly income in all items. (P=0.000) The value was positively correlated to their monthly income.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the affecting factors on male salary workers' level of retirement planning. The focus was on the causal effects on salary workers' attitude toward retirement and their level of retirement planning. The major findings were as follows.: First, the salary worker's attitude toward retirement was neutral, neither positive nor negative, and they estimated their level of retirement planning relatively high. Second, the major factors affecting on attitude toward retirement were salary workers' age, their current economic status, and future perspectives for the post-retirement life. Third, the major affecting factors on level of retirement planning were salary workers' age, health status, and level of self-esteem, household net asset, savings and investment for elderly life, and attitude toward retirement. forth, the causal effects on the level of retirement planning was verified, and attitude toward retirement had direct effect as well as indirect effect on the level of retirement planning. From the findings, it can be concluded that the salary workers' attitude toward retirement played a important role in the process of retirement planning.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of interpersonal attitude (I+, I-, U+, U-) on communication competence in care workers for frail elderly. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional survey. The data were collected from 153 care workers for frail elderly using a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 20.0 program. Results: The interpersonal attitude style of subjects was I+U+, and the score of communication competence was 3.53. There were significant differences in interpersonal attitude (I+, I-), and communication competence depending on age, education level, experience of personality type test (yes). Factors influencing on communication competence in care workers were interpersonal attitude (I+, I-, U+) and experience of personality type test with $R^2$ value of 48.5% (F=23.47 p<.001). The most influencing factor was I+ (${\beta}$=.36), followed by I- (${\beta}$=-.22), U+ (${\beta}$=.20), and experience of personality type test (yes) (${\beta}$=.16). Conclusion: It is needed to maintain the interpersonal attitude style (I+U+) of care workers. Continuing education program is needed for increasing communication competence especially for those fifties and over, and experienced care workers. Giving an opportunity for personality test is helpful to increase communication competence in care workers.
The purpose of this study was to examine the workers' attitudes toward textile industry. Also the attitude was investigated how to be correlated to job stress symptoms and job performance. The data were obtained from questionnaire completed by 529 workers employed in textile or clothing companies. The SPSS package was used for data analysis which included t-test, ANOVA, mean, correlation, and factor analysis. The results showed that workers' attitudes toward textile industry were neither positive nor negative. The attitudes revealed to be divided into two components-cognition, affect/behavioral intention. Cognitive attitude was observed to be more positive than affective/behavioral intention attitude. The attitude differed according to personal characteristics such as sex, educational status, position, period of one's service, types of industry and job specifications. The attitude were correlated with job stress symptoms and job performance. The more positive the workers' attitudes were, the lesser job stress symptoms and the higher job performance were. As the two components of the attitudes are in the same way, the attitude toward textile industry exhibited to have higher correlation with job stress symptoms and job performance.
The purpose of this study is to measure the social worker's knowledge about facts on aging and attitude toward the elderly between Korea and Japan. and to find out the variables that may influence their attitude. Four hundred and sixty two social workers working in nursing homes were given the questionnaire containing the Kyung San Facts on Aging Quiz to measure the level of knowledge about aging and Yoon (1988)'s scale to find the direction of attitude toward the elderly. The results of this study are analyzed as follows: (1) The Korean social worker's level of knowledge about aging was 63.0%, which was lower than Japanese social worker's level (67.6%). (2) Using 5 points scale. mean of the Korean social worker's attitude toward the elderly was 2.2 (44.8%), which was significantly different from the Japanese social worker's attitude 3.2 (63.4%). (3) Using multiple regression analysis, the social worker's level of knowledge about aging was the most significant predictor to explain the social worker's attitude toward the elderly. The other variables that are also statistically significant predictors of the social workers' attitude were country, personal experience with the elderly. and voluntary experience for the elderly. Especially the significant predictors to explain the Korean social workers' attitude were their levels of knowledge about aging. age, and classification of social worker license. On the other hand. the significant predictors to explain the Japanese social workers' attitude were their levels of knowledge about aging and periods of activity, Based on the research results, implications for practice and education methods for making social workers' attitude toward the elderly more positive are also suggested.
This study was planned to investigate employer's attitude about health management of workers in coal mine industry. The sample size was 38.3% (178 coal mine industries) of total 463 coal mine industries. The mailing survey was used to collecting data of coal mine industry and manager of coal mine industry. Distribution of attitude about health management of workers in coal mine industry, specifically necessity and availability of some items of health management and some apparatus of working environment, was skewed to positive attitude. While recognition of susceptability of coal workers' pneumoconiosis was low, that of seriousness of incidence of coal workers' pneumoconiosis was high.
This study was to investigate knowledge, attitude and the preventive behaviour of noise of workers exposed to harmful noise and to provide primary data for noise-exposed workers' hearing conservation and the prevention of noise induced hearing loss. Method: The subjects were 104 workers who participated voluntarily in the questionnaire. The instrument used in this study was knowledge, attitude and practice on noise-induced hearing loss tool by Rhee & Yi (1996). The data were collected from August to September, 2002 with a self-administered questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS 10.0 win program for finding frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and ANOVA. Results: The average age of workers was 35.9 and the current average year of working at the noise place was $5{\sim}$10 years. In the group of previous noise-exposed workers, they showed significant difference in preventive behaviors (t=4.087, p=.048). In the group of current noise-exposed workers, they showed significant difference in recognition and attitude of noise(F=4.707, p=.004). Also, the duration of wearing ear protection equipment(t=2.383, p=.019), the feeling of wearing ear protection equipment(F=3.602, p=.031) and comfortable sense of wearing ear protection (F=3.919, p=.023) was significant in the preventive behaviour of noise. Conclusion: Considering the results above, we can recognize that there are close relations among the knowledge, attitude and the preventive behaviour of noise. Therefore, it is necessary to develop education - programs for noise-exposed workers' better understanding of noise and preventive behaviors
The purpose of this study was to identify the education effect about AIDS related knowledge & attitude in industrial workers. This study examined the workers' knowledge and attitude at two times. (before education, 3days after education) This study 298 admitted workers on 3 work place who participated in health education by video material. Data were gathered from 1994. 12. 12 to 1994. 12. 22. The results were as follow: 1. The level of knowledge about AIDS; The correct answer mean score of knowledge before education was 13.7 out of 28. The correct answer mean score of knowledge after education was 17.6 out of 28. 2. The education effect about AIDS related knowledge according to 28 questions; Almost of questions were significantly increased correct answer rate about AIDS related knowledge except 2 questions. 3. The education effect about AIDS related knowledge according to workers' general characteristics: The significant general characteristics of health education effect that impact on the knowledge score were women, the teenth, the twentieth, unmarrige state, lower senior high school graduated, sexual experience had or not, over five occupational career, education time, health education experience had or not. 4. The education effect of AIDS related attitude: Significant change of attitude related AIDS were found 7 out of 9 questions.
The purpose of this study was to examine the evaluations and attitudes of workers in low temperature storages of discount stores toward their uniforms by carrying out a field study and a survey. The effects of evaluation attributes on their attitudes were also investigated. In this study, the reference of the evaluation of uniforms was based on the concepts of serviceability, which implies the fitness for purpose of products and consists of durability, care, comfort and aesthetic appearance. Of 400 questionnaires, 253 of them were used for data analysis. The data were analyzed by descriptives, t-test, factor analysis, reliability test and regression analysis with SPSS 12.0. As a result, it showed that workers have set low values on easy care, physiological comfort, aesthetic appearance and durability among the evaluation attributes. In attitudes toward the uniforms, emotional attitude was negative whereas behavioral attitude positive. It appeared that the evaluation attributes had influence on the attitude toward the uniforms and esthetic appearance among the attributes had the biggest effects on the workers' attitude. In conclusion, it was found that the discount store uniforms should be improved in the aspects of easy care and physiological comfort, and focused on the esthetic appearance for workers' positive attitudes to their uniforms.
