  • This paper applies a compensated low pass filter (LPF) to current measurements for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. The noise limits the bandwidth of current controllers and has more adverse influences on control performances under the light load condition because of the low signal-to-noise ratio. In order to eliminate the noise sensitivity, this paper proposes a digital LPF with a compensator of gain attenuation and phase delay which are unacceptable in current information for PMSM drives. Characteristics of the proposed LPF are analyzed in comparison with the general LPFs. The compensated LPF is basically designed by the orthogonal property of the measured currents in the ${\alpha}{\beta}$ stationary reference frame. In addition, an implementation issue of the proposed method is discussed. Experimental results using the proposed method show improvements of the current control performance from two perspectives, rapid step responses and reductions of harmonic distortion.

  • The present work addresses an experimental study on sound attenuation characteristics of silencer by live firing test. When a gun fires, there exists excessive noise which propagates as a form of blast wave. As muzzle energy of the weapon systems increases, the level of impulsive noise also increases. It is well known that the impulsive noise from a gun gives a serious damage to human bodies and structures. The adverse effects of impulsive sound also cause both social and military problems. So it is very important to study the characteristics of the impulsive sound attenuation. The live firing test is performed to evaluate the effect of four different silencers. The test result is compared with the case of bare muzzle which is not installed the silencer. The frequency characteristics are also analyzed to investigate the diminution of sound pressure level. The results of this study will be helpful to the designing silencer for large caliber weapon systems.

  • This paper is a study on frequency analysis and electronic noise reduction of energy storage system (ESS). We acquired 4 necessary data for about 2 minutes and 4 seconds using a sampling frequency of 10,000 Hz in ESS. Fast Fourier transform (FFT) was used for electronic noise analysis from the acquired data. As a result, it was confirmed that DC component, fundamental wave, second and higher harmonic component exist. For the attenuation of harmonics, low-pass filter (LPF) was applied. We confirmed that an attenuation of approximately 59.3% appears from the second harmonic. The presence of many harmonic components in the data of the ESS was expected to occur due to the insufficiency of optimization among the modules inside the ESS. Therefore, we propose that a national certification system for ESS should be introduced to settle down the issue properly.

  • In this paper, we suggested that a RF-front module of down-converter that represents the lowest noise figure to receive high quality video signals because the attenuation occurs in the atmosphere over 20GHz. By budget analysis of CDR, SFDR and CIP3 of RF-FEM, we also analyzed the parameters and linearity that presents high dynamic range. The total gain of designed Ka-band down-converter is 61.8dBand noise figure is 1.05dB, so gain and noise figures show excellent properties. In the future, the designed RF-FEM will be applied to the Ka-band satellite down-converter for UHD-class video transmission.

  • The sources of wayside noise for the high -speed train are the aerodynamic noise, rolling noise and power unit noise. We should know the major source to control noise radiated from train. In this paper, we present the test results on the wayside noise and the vibration of the rail/sleeper during the passing of Korean Train Express (KTX). It turns out that the major noise sources for KTX are the rolling noise and power unit noise at 300 km/h. Generally, the noise attenuation with distance is independent of train speed. However, the test results show that in the near field the noise levels decrease by about 5~6 ㏈(A) per doubling of distance at speed in the range of 50~120 km/h and about 3~4 ㏈(A)/d.d at 300 km/h.

  • The vertical attenuation of structureborne noise in a ship structure is studied by means of the wave guide theory. When modeling a ship structure as an acoustic wave guide system the cross mode is derived from the assumption about the boundary of the system, i.e. the constraint due to transverse frames. In this paper, the constraint is relaxed so that the displacement at the boundaries could take place. The numerical result shows better agreement with the measured one than that of the previous assumption of fixed boundary condition in the low frequency region. The effect of local changes of mass and damping factors on the attenuation losses are also investigated numerically.

  • The effects of noise attenuation among bare land, grassland, dominated broad-leaved (Quercus acutissima Carruth) and dominated coniferous forest (Pignus rigid Mill.) were studied For this study, the field experiment was carried out at playground, orchard grass, and school forest in Yeungnam University, Kyongsan. Sound levels of 500, 630, 800, 1,000, 1,250, 1,600, 2,000, 2,500 and 3,150 Hz, respectively, were projected into the vegetation, and the transmitted levels of sound were recorded at the distances of 1, 5, 10, 20, 30 and 50m, respectively, from the sound source. Both dominated coniferous forest (Pignus riged Mill.) and broad-leaved forest (Quercus acutissima Carruth ) are the more effective than grassland in the rates of attenuation. It is expected that dominated coniferous forest will be the more effective to attenuate sound love교 than dominated broad-leaved forest. In the low frequencies such as 500 and 630 Hz, grassland showed the more effective to attenuate sound levels than forests, while in the high frequency such as 3,150 Hz, the forests are the more effective to attenuate sound levels than grassland The present results suggested that it is the more effective to establish the tree belt for a sound barrier, with dominated coniferous tree species in the upper layer and herbaceous vegetation in the lower layer.

  • It is needed to assess the impact of the road traffic noise for city planning. In Korea, the current noise impact assessment h3s not yet considered the impacts of the multiple reflection, the deflection and the ground attenuation caused by buildings and other obstacles. A noise map is useful tool to solve this problems. But before everything else, suitability of noise map must be assessed for variety of geometry conditions. In this study, we assessed suitability of road traffic noise map by compared measured noise levels with predicted noise levels from each road traffic noise map for Site A, B and C.

  • Using the 2-D and 3-D Hoffman brain phantom, 3-D Jaszczak phantom and Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography, the effects of data acquisition parameter, attenuation, noise, scatter and reconstruction algorithm on image quantitation as well as image quality were studied. For the data acquisition parameters, the images were acquired by changing the increment angle of rotation and the radius. The less increment angle of rotation resulted in superior image quality. Smaller radius from the center of rotation gave better image quality, since the resolution degraded as increasing the distance from detector to object increased. Using the flood data in Jaszczak phantom, the optimal attenuation coefficients were derived as 0.12cm$\^$-1/ for all collimators. Consequently, the all images were corrected for attenuation using the derived attenuation coefficients. It showed concave line profile without attenuation correction and flat line profile with attenuation correction in flood data obtained with jaszczak phantom. And the attenuation correction improved both image qulity and image quantitation. To study the effects of noise, the images were acquired for 1min, 2min, 5min, 10min, and 20min. The 20min image showed much better noise characteristics than 1min image indicating that increasing the counting time reduces the noise characteristics which follow the Poisson distribution. The images were also acquired using dual-energy windows, one for main photopeak and another one for scatter peak. The images were then compared with and without scatter correction. Scatter correction improved image quality so that the cold sphere and bar pattern in Jaszczak phantom were clearly visualized. Scatter correction was also applied to 3-D Hoffman brain phantom and resulted in better image quality. In conclusion, the SPECT images were significantly affected by the factors of data acquisition parameter, attenuation, noise, scatter, and reconstruction algorithm and these factors must be optimized or corrected to obtain the useful SPECT data in clinical applications.

  • HVAC systems are used to maintain comfort conditions in occupied spaces. Like rolling noise and aerodynamic noise, noise from the HVAC system of train increases interior noise level. For an appropriate interior noise level, it is necessary not to find noise sources and their propagation paths. Noise emission from the sources and propagation through the propagation paths should be regulated in order to reduce their effect to the interior noise level. In general, the main noise source in the HVAC system is blower which operates at high static pressure. This noise propagates through ducts which are directly connected to the residential area. Since the blower noise can be reduced only to some degree, it is necessary for the propagation paths to have enough noise attenuation. Acoustic properties of ducts are usually found by experimental methods but it is rather difficult and expensive to set up such test equipments. In this thesis, the design and the noise characteristics of TGV-K HVAC system are studied. Finite element method in accordance with experimental method is used to study the acoustic properties of TGV-K duct system.
