  • The effect of $ZrO_2$-coating on the electrochemical properties of the cathode material $LiNi_{0.8}Co_{0.2}O_2$ was investigated using EPMA, TEM, and EIS. In particular, we facused on the distribution of the $ZrO_2$ on the particle surface to study the relation between electrochemical properties of the coated cathode and the distribution of the coating materials in the particle. Based on the results from the composition analysis and electrochemical tests, it was found that the coating layer consisted of nano-sized $ZrO_2$ particles attached non-uniformly on the particle surface and the $ZrO_2$ layer significantly improved the electrochemical properties of the cathode by suppressing the impedance growth at the interface between the electrodes and the electrolyte.

  • The characteristics of elastic waves emanating from crack initiation in 2024 and 5052 aluminum alloys subject to static and fatigue loading are investigated through laboratory experiments. The objective of the study is to determine difference in the properties of the signals generated from static and fatigue tests and also to examine if the sources of the waves could be identified from the temporal and spectral characteristics of the acoustic emission (AE) waveforms. The signals are recoded using non-resonant, flat, broadband transducers attached to the surface of the alloy specimens. The time dependence and power spectra of the signals recorded during the tests were examined and classified according to their special features. Three distinct types of signals were observed. The waveforms and their power spectra were found to be dependent on the material and the type of fracture associated with the signals. Analysis of the waveforms indicated that some signals could be attributed to plastic deformation associated with static tests. The potential application of the approach in health monitoring of aging aircraft structures using a network of surface mounted broadband sensors is discussed.

  • As part of the government's fishery resource creation policy, fishing ground creation projects have been undertaken in Korea's major seashore fishing spots since the 1970s, where artificial reefs constructed using new materials that make up for the weakness of concrete reefs have been used. In this study, the stability of these artificial reefs when acted upon by external forces, their ability to attract and gather fish, and their economic feasibility were examined. For this purpose, an experimental artificial steel reef was constructed and was installed in an area of the sea. Then the corrosion of the experimental material attached to it was investigated. The efficiency of the artificial steel reef was then verified by examining its functionality, removal, and burying, as well as the speed of insertion of living things into its structure and its ability to attract and gather fish.

  • In this paper, a high-quality low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) solenoid inductor using a solder ball and an air cavity on a silicon wafer for three-dimensional (3-D) system-in-package (SiP) is proposed. The LTCC multi-layer solenoid inductor is attached using Ag paste and solder ball on a silicon wafer with the air cavity structure. The air cavity is formed on a silicon wafer through an anisotropic wet-etching technology and is able to isolate the LTCC dielectric loss which is equivalent to a low k material effect. The electrical coupling between the metal layer and the LTCC dielectric layer is decreased by adopting the air cavity. The LTCC solenoid inductor using the solder ball and the air cavity on silicon wafer has an improved Q factor and self-resonant frequency (SRF) by reducing the LTCC dielectric resistance and parasitic capacitance. Also, 3-D device stacking technologies provide an effective path to the miniaturization of electronic systems.

  • In this Paper, we suggest the precision stage using a novel non-contact planar actuator that utilizes an interaction between an array type of air-core solenoids and permanent magnets. The former with axes arranged in the mutually orthogonal direction is fixed on the stator and the latter with the same polar direction is attached below the stage. The promising magnetic structure has little uncertainty such as hysteresis loss caused by ferromagnetic material, then it is simple to quantify the magnetic phenomenon. And all the magnetic forces are transmitted through narrow air-gap between the coil and the permanent magnet, therefore the structure can be highly compacted. Furthermore, the stage or plate can be perfectly isolated from the stator without any wire connection, leading to diminish the generating possibility of wear particles due to mechanical contact. Then. it is estimated that the proposed operating principle is very suitable for work requiring high accuracy and cleanness. or general-purpose nano stage. The main issues rebated to the plate driving are discussed here.

  • The spatter and porosity could be occurred during $CO_2$ CW laser welding of Primer-coated Steel for Shipbuilding. This study has suggested an alternative idea by examining of weld-defect formation mechanism. The primer-coated plate has caused the spatter, humping bead and porosity and these are main part of the welding defect, attributed to the powerful vaporizing pressure of primer attached on the base metal. The zinc of primer has a boiling point that is the lower temperature than melting point of steel. Zinc va}X)f will build up at the interface between the two sheets and this tends to deteriorate the quality of the weld by ejecting weld material from lap position or leaving porosity. Therefore introducing a small gap clearance in the lap position, the zinc vapor could escape through it and sound weld beads can be acquired. In conclusion, we suggested the occurred and prevented mechanism of weld defects with searching the factor.

  • A fundamental structural design consideration for a vehicle system is the overall vibration characteristics in bending and torsion. Vibration characteristics of such vehicle system are mainly influenced by the static and dynamic stiffness of the vehicle body structure and also by the material and physical properties of the components attached to the vehicle body structure. In this paper, modeling techniques for the vehicle components are presented and the flexibility and mass effects of the components for the vibration characteristics of the vehicle are investigated. The $1^{st}$ torsional frequency is increased by attaching windshields to the B.I.W. (body-in-white), but the $1^{st}$ bending frequency is decreased by the mass effect. And also, the natural frequencies of the vehicle are large decreased by attaching bumpers, seats, doors, trunk-lid etc. But, suspension system rarely affects the natural frequencies of the vehicle. The study shows thai the dynamic characteristics of the vehicle system can be effectively predicted in the initial design stage.

  • Tin and Tinoxide nanoparticles were prepared by arc-discharge nanopowder process. The negative electrode were fabricated using Tin and Tinoxide nanopower. The microstructure and electrochemistry properties were investigated and compared between Tin and Tinoxide. The oxidation film has microstructure of core/shell type and the shell which was attached around Tin nanoparticle consisted of amorphous $SnO_2$. The shape of Tinoxide nanoparticles was formed with irregular shape in comparison with Tin particle. Initial discharge capcity of Tinoxide electrode possesed about 1000mAh/g, which is about 320mAh/g higher than Tin electrode. Irreversible capacity of Tin electrode is much higher than Tinoxide. The cycle performance of Tinoxide electrode was indicated that is batter than Tin. The Tin negative electrode lost most of capacity after 4 cycle but Tinoxide electrode still retained the capacity. The Tinoxide does show some promise as Li-ion battery anode due to their large reversible capacity at low potentials.

  • While the demand for robots in the manufacturing industry has dramatically increased, the industrial robots' functionality is mainly determined by the effector attached to the end of their arms. They need a flexible gripping system that can act as a human hand and easily grasp a variety of objects, which requires resilient sensors. This study clarifies the electrical output characteristics of elastic tactile sensors according to contact terminals because the output characteristics of the tactile sensors vary greatly, depending on the contact material and the method of contact with the conductive wire. Our research considers the Three Roll Mill and Paste Mixer as the dispersion medium, and a nickel- and gold-plated brass electrode as the contact terminal.

  • This paper deals with the analysis of the natural frequencies, mode shapes of an axially loaded beam system carrying ends consisting of non-concentrated tip masses and three spring-two mass sub-systems. The influence of system design and sub-system parameters on the combined system characteristics is the major part of this investigation. The effect of material properties, rotary inertia and shear deformation of the beam system is included. The end masses are elastically supported against rotation and translation at an offset point from the point of attachment. Sub-systems are attached to center of gravity eccentric points out of the beam span. The boundary conditions of the ordinary differential equation governing the lateral deflections and slope due to bending of the beam system including developed shear force frequency dependent terms, due to the sub.system suspension, have been formulated. Exact formulae for the modal frequencies and the modal shapes have been derived. Based on these formulae, detailed parametric studies are carried out. The geometrical and mechanical parameters of the system under study have been presented in non-dimensional analysis. The applied mathematical model is presented to cover wide range of mechanical, naval and structural engineering applications.
