In this study, the effect of microwave which can increase temperature rapidly on polyester alkaline dyeing was investigated. The final K/S values of polyester fabrics dyed by microwave lower than those of atmospheric dyeing because of the evaporation loss of dyeing solution. If the dyeing time makes longer as much as that in atmospheric dyeing, the K/S values of polyester fabrics dyed under microwave were similar to those of atmospheric dyeing. The K/S values of polyester fabrics dyed in pH 9.5 were higher than those in pH 5.5 in case of aliphatic carriers. The K/S values of organic reagent pretreated polyester fabrics dyed by use of aromatic carriers were not higher than those of non-treated polyester fabrics. But the K/S values of polyester fabrics dyed by use of aliphatic carriers were higher than those of non-treated polyester fabrics. The tensile strength were decreased with increasing of dyebath pH because the polyester fabrics were easily decomposed by high alkali.

The objective of this study is to examine the effect of frost damage immediately after placement on compressive strength of concrete. Obviously frost damage produced under low curing temperature at early ages causes the loss of compressive strength of concrete. In order to find the degrees of the loss of compressive strength, compressive strength tests was peformed at 7 and 28-day ages on concrete specimen with various curing temperature history. The results from the tests showed that the loss of compressive strength relative to concrete cured under isothermal temperature at $20^{\circ}C$ was generally from 20 to 50% for 7-day ages and below 20% for 28 day ages. Considering the serious loss of compressive strength over 50% for some cases, careful attention may be needed to placing of concrete under low atmospheric temperature.
This study calculated wind speed at the height of 10 m using a disaster prediction model(Florida Public Hurricane Loss Model, FPHLM) that was developed and used in the United States. Using its distributions, a usable information of surface wind was produced for the purpose of disaster prevention when the typhoon attack. The advanced research version of the WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting) was used in this study, and two domains focusing on South Korea were determined through two-way nesting. A horizontal time series and vertical profile analysis were carried out to examine whether the model provided a resonable simulation, and the meteorological factors, including potential temperature, generally showed the similar distribution with observational data. We determined through comparison of observations that data taken at 700 hPa and used as input data to calculate wind speed at the height of 10 m for the actual terrain was suitable for the simulation. Using these results, the wind speed at the height of 10 m for the actual terrain was calculated and its distributions were shown. Thus, a stronger wind occurred in coastal areas compared to inland areas showing that coastal areas are more vulnerable to strong winds.
In this work, sample loss of reduced sulfur compounds (RSC) was investigated with respect to bag sampling techniques. For comparison purpose, calibration slopes were obtained by analyzing standards prepared by 'within syringe dilution' (WSD) method against those made either by 'Tedlar bag dilution' (TBD) or by 'polyester aluminum bag dilution' (PBD) method. The results indicated that the recovery rate of TBD showed the mean values of about 87%, while those of PBD about 77%. Despite the fact that sample loss is inevitable, precise sampling of reduced sulfur compounds may still be possible, if one acknowledges and be prepared for such loss rates of bag sampling methods.
We studied the sea level variations at Kerguelen island in the South Indian Ocean with ARGOS data and meteorological data during about 1 year(May 1993~April 1994) through using filter, spectral analysis, coherency and phase, and found characteristics for the two oceanic signal levels(detided oceanic signal level, h$_{detided}$ and seasonal oceanic level, h$_{corr.ib}$). The forms of atmospheric pressure variations are good agreed to between ARGOS data and meteorological data in the observed periods. This Kerguelen area shows the inflow of an air temperature(gain of a radiant heat) into the sea water and the stagnation of high atmospheric pressure bands in summer, and the outflow of a sea water temperature(loss of sensible and latent heat) toward the atmosphere and the stagnation of low atmospheric pressure bands in winter. The seasonal difference of sea level between summer and winter is about 1.6cm. Both the detided oceanic signal level(h$_{detided}$) variation and the inverted barometer level(h$_{ib}$) variation have a strong correlation for T>1day period bands. The characteristics of h$_{detided}$ variation are not decided by the influence of any meteorological distributions (atmospheric pressure), but the influence of other factors(bottom water temperature) for T>2days periods bands. h$_{corr.ib}$ plays a very important role of sea level variation in the observed periods (especially T>about 180days period bands).

A multi-functional indoor smog chamber was designed and evaluated to investigate photochemical or water vapor reaction mechanisms of air pollutants. Various smog chamber experiments could be conducted using ambient air or purified air in this smog chamber. The smog chamber consisted of a housing, a Teflon bag, blacklights, injection ports, sampling ports, and utility facilities. The characteristics of light source, the wall losses of air pollutants, and the quality of purified air were experimentally investigated. The maximum NO$_2$ photolysis rate was 1.10 min$^{-1}$ . In a 2.5-m$^3$ Teflon bag, the wall losses of ambient $O_3$, NO, and NO$_2$ were 1.2~2.4$\times$10$^{-3}$ min$^{-1}$ , 0.7~2.0$\times$10$^{-3}$ min$^{-1}$ , and 0.4~2.0$\times$10$^{-3}$ min$^{-1}$ , respectively. The wall loss of ambient particles ranging 0.05 to 0.2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ was 1.8~5.4$\times$10$^{-3}$ min$^{-1}$ , which was slightly higher than those of ambient gaseous species. The purified air supply system provided high quality of air with NO$_{x}$ < 1 ppb, and total hydrocarbons < 5 ppb.b.
In this study, the ionic composition of volcanogenically derived particles and their temporal and spatial distributions have been investigated to evaluate the impact of the volcanic eruption on the local ecosystem and residents. To this end, an intensive field study was conducted to measure the size-segregated particulate matters at the east part of Sakurajima in Japan. Fractionated sampling of particles into > $PM_{10}$, $PM_{10-2.5}$, and $PM_{2.5}$ was made by a multi nozzle cascade impactor (MCI). The concentration of various ions present in the size-resolved particles was determined by Ion chromatography. The time dependent 3-dimensional Volcanic Ash Forecast Transport And Dispersion (VAFTAD) model developed by the NOAA Air Resources Laboratory (ARL) indicated that the sampling site of this work was affected by the volcanic aerosol particles plume. The temporal distributions of sulfate and $PM_{2.5}$ during the field campaign were significantly variable with important contributions to particle mass concentration. The chlorine loss, suspected to be caused by acidic components of volcanic gases, occurred predominantly in fine particles smaller than $10\;{\mu}m$.
The comparative results of corrosion testing in humid tropical atmosphere in rural and coastal areas for hot dipped zinc coatings are presented below. The test was conducted in outdoor conditions over a period of five years. The mass loss and other performance characteristics of two types of zinc coatings were evaluated, analysed and discussed in relation to the climatic and environmental parameters. The corrosion rates of the coatings exposed to coastal conditions were about three times higher than the corrosion rates appreciated in rural conditions. The data demonstrates that the corrosion process obeys an equation of the form $M=At^n$, where M is the loss of metal and t is the time of exposure. A and n are constants which values depend on the environmental characteristics and the physicochemical behavior of the corrosion products respectively. Corrosion is strongly influenced by atmospheric time of wetness (TOW) and airborne salinity. The nature and composition of corrosion products are also considered. Simonkolleite, a major crystalline phase, was found in the zinc corrosion products exposed to coastal conditions, while zinc hydroxide and zinc hydrosulfate are easily found in rural settings.
The discharge characteristics of pulse-driven coplanar micro barrier discharges for an ultraviolet (UV) light source using Ne-Xe mixture have been investigated using a two-dimensional fluid simulation at near-atmospheric pressure. The densities of electrons, the radiative excited states, the metastable excited states, and the power loss are investigated with the variations of gas pressure and the gap distance. With a fixed gap distance, the number of the radiative states $Xe^*(^3P_1)$ increases with the increasing driving voltage, but this number shows weak dependency on the gas when that pressure is over 400 Torr. However, the number of the radiative states increases with the increase of the gap distance at a fixed voltage, while the power loss decreases. Therefore, a long gap discharge has higher efficiency for UV generation than does a short gap discharge. A slight change in the electrode tilt angle enhances the number of radiative species 2 or 3 times with the same operation conditions. Therefore, the intensity and efficiency of the UV light source can be controlled independently by changing the gap distance and the electrode structure.
