Numerical simulation model using nesting method and considering topographic features was developed to predict atmospheric environments atmospheric flow temperature and diffusion of air pollutants in Kwangyang bay where having complex areas of point sources Korea. In addition developed simulation model was used tracing of spreading range of pollutants when a gas leaks suddenly from Yeo-cheon industrial complex. by comparing the measured and calculated data on atmospheric flow temperature and diffusion of air pollutants the results showed that this model can be well applied and complicated topography affected the diffusion of air pollutants.

Natural hydrology systems, including high flow and low flow events, are important for aquatic ecosystem health and are essential for controlling the structure and function of ecological processes in river ecosystems. Ecosystem responses to flow changes have been studied in a variety of ways, but little attention has been given to how episodic typhoons and atmospheric circulation patterns can change these hydrologic regime-ecological response relationships. In this diagnostic study, we use an empirical approach to investigate the salient features of interactions between atmospheric circulation, climate, and runoff in the five major Korean river basins.

In the present investigation, a numerical model developed for the prediction of the wind flow over complex terrain is validated by comparing with the field experiments. For the solution of the Reynolds - Averaged Clavier- stokes equations which are the governing equations of the microscale atmospheric flow, the model is constructed based on the finite-volume formulation and the SIMPLEC pressure-correction algorithm for the hydrodynamic computation. The boundary- fitted coordinate system is employed for the detailed depiction of topography. The boundary conditions and the modified turbulence constants suitable for an atmospheric boundary- layer are applied together with the k- s turbulence model. The full- scale experiments of Cooper's Ridge, Kettles Hill and Askervein Hill are chosen as the validation cases . Comparisons of the mean flow field between the field measurements and the predicted results show good agreement. In the simulation of the wind flow over Askervein Hill , the numerical model predicts the three dimensional flow separation in the downslope of the hill including the blockage effect due to neighboring hills . Such a flow behavior has not been simulated by the theoretical predictions. Therefore, the present model may offer the most accurate prediction of flow behavior in the leeside of the hill among the existing theoretical and numerical predictions.

In the coastal region air flow changes due to the abrupt change of surface temperature between land and sea. So a numerical simulation for atmospheric flow fields must be considered the correct fields of sea surface temperature(SST). In this study, we used variables such as latent heat flux, sensible heat flux, short and long wave radiation of ocean and atmosphere which exchanged across the sea surface between atmosphere and ocean model. We found that this consideration simulated the more precise SST fields by comparing with those of the observated results. Simulated horizontal SST differences in season were 2.5~4$^{\circ}C$. Therefore we simulated the more precise atmospheric flow fields and the movement and dispersion of the pollutants with the Lagrangian particle dispersion model. In the daytime dispersion pattern of the pollutants emitted from ship sources moved toward inland, in the night time moved toward sea by land/sea breeze criculation. But air pollutants dispersion can be affected by inland topography, especially Yangsan and coastal area because of nocturnal wind speed decrease.

A critical component of air pollution modeling is the representation of atmospheric flow fields within a model domain, since an accurate air quality simulation requires an accurate portrayal of the three-dimensional wind fields. The present study investigated data assimilation using surface observational data in the complex coastal regions to simulate a realistic atmospheric flow fields. Surface observational data were categorized into three groups (Near coastal region, Far coastal region 1, Far costal region 2) by the locations where the sites are. Experiments were designed according to the location of observational stations and MM5/CALPUFF was used. The results of numerical simulation of atmospheric flow fields are used as input data for CALPUFF which predicts dispersion fields of air pollutants. The result of this study indicated that data assimilation using data in the far coastal region 2 provided an attractive method for generating realistic meteorological fields and dispersion fields of air pollutants in Gwangyang area because data in the near coastal region are variable and narrow representation.

A theoretical and numerical investigation on the boundary-layer flow over a two- or three-dimensional hill is presented. The numerical model is based on the finite volume method with boundary-fitted coordinates. The k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model with modified wall function and the low-Reynolds-number model are employed. The hypothesis of Reynolds number independency for the atmospheric boundary-layer flow over aerodynamically rough terrain is confirmed by the numerical simulation. Comparisons of the mean velocity profiles and surface pressure distributions between the numerical predictions and the wind-tunnel experiments on the flow over a hill show good agreement. The linear theory provides generally good prediction of speed-up characteristics for the gentle-sloped hills. The flow separation occurs in the hill slope of 0.5 and the measured reattachment points are compared with the numerical prediction. It is found that the k- $\varepsilon$ turbulence model is reasonably accurate in predicting the attached flow, while the low- Reynolds-number model is more suitable to simulate the separated flows.ows.
Orifice meter is the most widely used flowmeter in custody transfer between KOGAS and city gas companies. Absolute pressure value is needed to calculate the gas flow of orifice metering system, but the gauge pressure transmitters are mainly used in the field. In case that the gauge pressure transmitters are used, the fixed value as standard atmospheric pressure(101.325kPa) is applied for the absolute pressure value. The real, local atmospheric pressures of each metering station are different from the standard condition as the altitude and weather conditions. In this study the flow calculation errors were quantitatively analyzed through examining the atmospheric pressures of 50 stations of KOGAS. The data for analysis are such like the time data of supplied gas amount, the altitude of each metering station, the time data of atmospheric pressures and altitudes of each weather observatory. The results showed that the local atmospheric pressures were different from the standard value and the gas flow calculation errors were distributed between $-0.024\%{\~}0.025\%$ based on the supplied gas amount in the year 1999 and 2000.
The atmospheric flow in the 3-Cell model of global atmosphere circulation is described by the Lagrange's equation of the non-inertial frame where pressure force, frictional force and fictitious force are mixed in complex form. The Coriolis force is an important factor which requires calculation of fictitious force effects on atmospheric flow viewed from the rotating Earth. We make new Mathematica platform to solve Lagrange's equation by numerical analysis in order to analyze dynamics of atmospheric general circulation in the non-inertial frame. It can simulate atmospheric circulation process anywhere on the earth. It is expected that this pedagogical platform can be utilized to help students studying the atmospheric flow understand the mechanisms of atmospheric global circulation.
The characteristics plasma flow of an atmospheric plasma torch used for thermal plasma processing is studied. In general, it is produced by the arc-gas interactions between a cathode tip and an anode nozzle. The performance of non-transferred plasma torch is significantly dependent on jet flow characteristics out of the nozzle. In this work, the distribution of gas flow that goes out to the atmosphere through a plenum chamber and nozzle is analyzed to evaluate the performance of atmospheric plasma torch. Numerical analysis is carried out with various angles of an inlet flow which can create different swirl flow fields. Moreover, the size of plasma plume is experimentally depicted.

A Sea breeze front (SBF) appears clear particularly if there is opposing wind, and the convergence zone along a SBF affects air quality in coastal areas. This study analyzes features of SBF separation in the presence of an opposing flow in the southeastern coastal area of Korea Peninsula. Using a Regional Atmospheric Modeling System (RAMS) numerical simulation and an opposing flow, two types of SBF were observed at Masan coastal area of Korea. In one, the SBF penetrated inland despite of the opposing flow at Jinhae (1100 LST), Wondong (1700 LST), Saenglim (1700 LST), and Miryang (1700 LST). In the other, the SBF remained on the coastline along with Jinhae (1100 LST), Masan (1400 LST), Jinbuk (1400 LST), and Gaecheon (1700 LST), because the inflow of the sea breeze was not sufficient to penetrate inland against the opposing flow. This study shows that SBFs are affected by the formation of an opposing flow, as well as the inflows of a sea breeze and the opposing flow.
