  • In this study CALPUFF was used to estimate the influence of temperature rise, according to the observation value of temperature rise based RCP scenario, on meteorological elements (wind direction, wind speed, mixing height) and the change of pollutant diffusion. According to the result. applying estimated value of year 2050 temperature rise, the mixing height is increased as per the temperature rise, so the range of atmospheric diffusion is widened. In summer case, by applying temperature rise of $4^{\circ}C$ and comparing with before applying temperature rise, there was change of diffusion range as per the change of temperature between 10 AM to 11 PM. And the range of diffusion was wider than that of before temperature rise. In winter case, by applying estimated value of temperature rise, $2.3^{\circ}C$, diffusion range has been changed between 8 AM to 4 PM, showing different diffusion aspect from summer. Also, according to the result of air pollution level assessment with temperature rise, it was proved that the ratio of area with increasing air pollution level has been getting higher by increase of temperature.

  • This paper presents results of modeling of the passive contaminant diffusion from a continuous line finite-size source located on the underlying surface of a neutral near-ground atmospheric layer obtained by using the non-local two-parameteric turbulence model and the transport equation of mean concentration. In the proposed diffusion model the turbulent diffusion coefficient changes not only with the vertical coordinate but also with the distance downstream from the source according to the experimental data. The results of the modeling reproduce structural features of the concentration field.

  • Coagulation is a process whereby particles collide with one another due to their relative motion, and adhere to form large particles. Coagulation caused by the random Brownian motion of particles is called Brownian coagulation. Many properties, such as light scattering, electrostatic charges, toxicity, as well as physical processes, including diffusion, condensation and thermophoresis depend strongly on their size distribution. Therefore, Brownian coagulation is substantially important in atmospheric science, combustion technology, inhalation toxicology and nuclear safety analysis. (omitted)

  • One-dimensional thermodynamic mixed layer model to stimulate variations of meteorological variables wish the planetary boundary layer has been developed In this study. This model consists of 2 prognostic equations, which can predict the variations of potential temperature and mixing ratio and several diagnostic equations. Physics within the surface and mixed layers has been considered seperately in the model. For the variations of the model, Its result has been analysed and compared with observated data over Ole Dukyang Bay for one day, July 23, 1992. The simulated height of mixed layer is comparable to the observation and the variations of temperature and mixing ratio in the mixed layer are also reasonably simulated. Those Imply that the model responds appropriately with given boundary conditions In sprite of Its simplilfied assumptions applied to the model and insufficient boundary and Initial conditions.

  • An investigation is carried out for the role of topography in governign the mesoscale distribution of $SO_2$ concentration in Seoul. The three dimensional wind fields computed for a given synoptic meteorological condition by an atmospheric mesoscale model in the terrain following coordinate have been employed to compute the three dimensional mesoscale distributions of $SO_2$ concentration by the diffusion model in Seoul area. Terrain may affect the mesoscale distributions of $SO_2$ concentration through its influence on the mesoscale wind fields. This study discusses only the terrain effect on the concentration through its modification of the wind. This effect is to produce higher concentration in lower area according to the structure of divergence fields derived from and atmospheric mesoscale model.

  • In this work, a theoretical model has been formulated which allows the study of the scavenging efficiencies of aerosol particles by the rain drops. Aerosol particles are scavenged by the simultaneous brownian diffusion, interception and inertial impaction force. In addition the calculations based on the collision efficiency model are carried out for the collision of aerosol particles with diameter range 0.01~30 $mu extrm{m}$ and rain drops with diameter 0.02$\times$$2^{n/3}$(n=1, 2, …, 17)cm. The results indicate that: (1) the below-cloud scavenging affects mainly the coarse particles (>3 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$), the fine particles remaining almost unchanged; (2) the scavenging efficiencies by below-cloud in the heavy rain (rain intensity, 10 mm/hr) surpass the efficiency found in the drizzle rain (rain intensity, 1 mm/hr).

  • With varying conditions of concrete surface, induced chloride contents are changed and this is a key parameter for steel corrosion and service life in RC (Reinforced Concrete) structures. Many surface enhancement techniques using impregnation have been developed, however the evaluation techniques for chloride behavior through doubly layered media and time-dependent diffusion are rarely proposed. This paper presents an analysis technique considering double-layer concrete and time-dependent diffusion behavior, and the results are compared with those from the previous test results through reverse analysis. The chloride profiles from the surface-impregnated concrete exposed to atmospheric, tidal, submerged zone for 2 years are adopted. Furthermore surface chloride contents and diffusion coefficients are obtained, and are compared with those from Life365. Through consideration of time effect, the relative error decreases from 0.28 to 0.20 in atmospheric, 0.29 to 0.11 in tidal, and 0.54 to 0.40 in submerged zone, respectively, which shows more reasonable results. Utilizing the diffusion coefficients from Life365, relative errors increases and it needs deeper penetration depth (e) and lower diffusion coefficient ratio ($D_1/D_2$) due to higher diffusion coefficient.

  • In the prior study, the mechanical properties and the dyeability of the easily dyeable polyester grim(EDY) were investigated. In this study, to interpret the dyeing behavior of EDY with C. I. Disperse Violet 1, the thermodynamic parameters of dyeing, such as the standard affinity, the heat of dyeing(the enthalpy change), the entropy change, the diffusion coefficient, and the activation energy of diffusion, were obtained from adsorption isotherms and dyeing rate at various temperatures and compared to these of regular polyester (REG-PET). The heat of dyeing(the enthalpy change) and the entropy change for EDY showed smaller negative values than those for REG-PET. This means that the dye molecules in the EDY are combined more loosely than in the REG-PET and that is due to the flexibility of polymer chains of EDY. The diffusion coefficients of C. I. Disperse Violet 1 into the EDY were larger than those for REG-PET, and the activation energy of diffusion on EDY was smaller than that on REG-PET.
