The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of physical properties of fuels on spray characteristics in the gasoline direct injection system. Injection rate, spray visualization, and spray pattern experiments were performed to analyze the spray characteristics of ethanol, gasoline, and ethanol/gasoline blends. We measured injection rate of each fuel via the Bosch method. The spray visualization experiment was also carried out at atmospheric pressure using a high-speed camera. Finally, the average of drop surface area per unit volume was measured using the optical patternator. The experimental results from Bosch method showed that peak injection rate increased when the volume fraction of ethanol increased. In addition, higher viscosity of ethanol than that of gasoline leads to longer injection delay. At the initial injection region before reaching 0.8 ms, the spray tip penetration becomes longer as increasing the volume fraction of ethanol, but reversely shorter after 0.8 ms. It was found that ethanol makes spray angle become larger. The surface area per unit volume of the drop was decreased as the distance from the injection tip or the concentration of the gasoline increased.
This study observed downward long and short-wave radiant environment with selecting 4 areas which have different height in downtown and 1 suburban area to figure out the characteristic of radiant environment in each altitude. The purpose of this study is to collect the preliminary data for interpreting urban thermal environment in summer season by analyzing thermal characteristic of atmosphere in the upper of downtown. The results of this study are as follows. 1) The higher altitude has the lower temperature, and temperature difference was more huge in day time than night time. 2) The short wave radiation according to altitude was higher as altitude was high. 3) Generally, the higher altitude has the lower air temperature, and also the higher altitude has the lower downward long wave radiation by the atmospheric radiation. 4) The ratio short wave radiation of long wave radiation was lower as altitude was high. And the urbanization effect was higher as the ratio was low.

This study introduces an image-based 2D-to-3D conversion system that provides significant stereoscopic visual effects for humans. The linear and atmospheric perspective cues that compensate each other are employed to estimate depth information. Rather than retrieving a precise depth value for pixels from the depth cues, a direction angle of the image is estimated and then the depth gradient, in accordance with the direction angle, is integrated with superpixels to obtain the depth map. However, stereoscopic effects of synthesized views obtained from this depth map are limited and dissatisfy viewers. To obtain impressive visual effects, the viewer's main focus is considered, and thus salient object detection is performed to explore the significance region for visual attention. Then, the depth map is refined by locally modifying the depth values within the significance region. The refinement process not only maintains global depth consistency by correcting non-uniform depth values but also enhances the visual stereoscopic effect. Experimental results show that in subjective evaluation, the subjectively evaluated degree of satisfaction with the proposed method is approximately 7% greater than both existing commercial conversion software and state-of-the-art approach.
$\beta$-SiC was chemically vapor deposited by pyrolysis of MTS+H2 gas mixture. The experiments were conducted in the temperature range of 1100~150$0^{\circ}C$ with a r.f. induction furnace under atmospheric pressure. The IR, XRD, EDS and AES analysis revealed that the free Si was always codeposited with SiC below 140$0^{\circ}C$, regardless of the total flow rate and MTS concentration, whereas $\beta$-SiC single phase was deposited at 150$0^{\circ}C$. C3H8 or CH2Cl2 as an excess C sources, was supplied with MTS in order to obtain stoichiometric SiC at low temperature. With the addition of C3H8 or CH2Cl2, the deposition rate was increased and $\beta$-SiC single phase could be deposited even at temperature as low as 110$0^{\circ}C$. In the absence of C3H8 or CH2Cl2, the microhardness of the layer was quite low (
The performance prediction software developed in this paper is a process analysis tool that enables one to foretell the behavior of processes when certain conditions of operation are altered. The immediate objective of this research is to predict the process characteristics of combined heat and power plant under varying operating conditions. A cogeneration virtual power plant that mimics the mechanical performance of the actual plant was constructed and the performance of the power plant was predicted in the following varying atmospheric conditions: temperature, pressure and humidity. This resulted in a positive outcome where the performance of the power plant under changing conditions were correctly predicted as well as the calorific value of low calorific gas fuel such as shale gas and PNG. The performance prediction tool can detect the operation characteristics of the power plant through the performance index analysis and thus propose the operation method taking into consideration the changes in environmental conditions.

A study has been conducted to provide the experimental information for the velocity and temperature profiles of steam-air mixutre and to investigate their roles on the film condensation with wavy interface. Saturated gas mixture of steam-air was made to flow through the nearly horizontal$(4.1^{\circ})$ square duct of 0.1m width and 1.56m length at atmospheric pressure, and was condensated on the bottom cold plate. The air mass fraction in the gas mixture was changed from zero(W =0, pure steam) to one(W =1, pure air), and the bulk velocity was varied from 2 to 4 m/s. Water film was injected concurrently to investigate the effect of wavy interface on the condensation. The velocity and temperature profiles were measured by LDA system and thermocouples along the three parameters ; air mass fraction, mixture velocity and film flow rate. The profiles moved toward the interface with increasing steam mass fraction, mixture velocity and film flow rate. The Prandtl and Schmidt numbers were near one in the present experimental range, however there was no complete similarity between the velocity and temperature profiles of gas mixture. And the heat transfer characteristics and interfacial structure were coupled with each other.

Numerical simulations of freely propagating flames burning stoichiometric C $H_4$/CHC1$_3$/ $O_2$/$N_2$ mixtures are performed at atmospheric pressure in order to understand the effect of the $O_2$ enrichment level and the CHC1$_3$/C $H_4$ molar ratio. A chemical kinetic mechanism is developed, which involves 69 gas-phase species and 379 forward and 364 backward reactions. The calculated flame speeds are compared with the experiments for the flames established at several CHC1$_3$/C $H_4$ molar ratio (R<1), the results of which is in excellent agreement. As a results of the increased $O_2$ enrichment level from 0.21 to 1, the flame speed and the temperature in the burned gas are increased. At high CHC1$_3$/C $H_4$ molar ratio two peak values appear on the $O_2$ consumption rate, which are affected by CC1$_2$+ $O_2$$_{-}$>C1O+CC1O and H+ $O_2$$_{-}$>O+OH.+OH.
An ideal 3D primitive equation model is implemented to investigate upper ocean response to typhoons, focusing on rightward bias (RWB) which means an appearance of an intensified sea surface cooling to the right side of the typhoon track. The model has 26-stratified levels and a flat bottom (1000 m), covering a rectangular domain of about 3,060 km×3,300 km with four open boundaries. The sea water is forced by an atmospheric pressure and a gradient wind of the typhoon. The model well reproduces the RWB in previous observations and theoretical analyses. For the fast moving typhoon (FMT) (-8m/sec), the model shows that in the mixed layer (ML), the RWB in the SST noticeably appears clearly illustrating the coupling between inertial motion and wind stress, but in the subsurface layer (-100m), the RWB does not emerge since a cyclonic current field (CCF) caused by wind stress curl is primarily dominant. For the slowly moving typhoon (SMT) (-3m/sec), however, the RWB does not emerge because the coupling is weakened and the CCF is rather predominant even in the ML. In the model, we conclude that the RWB noticeably emerges in the FMT but does not emerge in the SMT related to predominance of CCF.

Extensive researches toward pool boiling characteristics have been widely investigated. However, the correct understanding of its boiling crisis by Critical Heat Flux (CHF) phenomenon during steady and transient heat transfer as a fundamental database for designing heat generation systems is still need to be clarified. The pool boiling CHFs were investigated to clarify the generalized phenomena of transition to film boiling at transient condition. The CHFs were measured on 1.0 mm diameter horizontal cylinder of platinum for exponential heat generation rates with various periods for saturated liquids at atmospheric pressure. The incipience of boiling processes was completely different depending on pre-pressurization. Also, the dependence of pre-pressure in transient CHFs changed due to the wettability of boiling liquids. The trend of typical CHFs were clearly divided into the first, second and third groups for long, short and intermediate periods, respectively. By the effect of pre-pressurization, the boiling incipience mechanism was replaced from that by active cavities entraining vapor to that by the HSN in originally flooded cavies.
The objective of this study is a qualitative comparison between line-integrated OH chemiluminescence ($OH{\ast}$) image and its Abel inversion image at different phase of the oscillating pressure field. PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) measurements were conducted under non-reacting conditions to see the global flow structure. Also NOx emission was measured to investigate the effect of fuel-air premixing on combustion instability and emission characteristics. Experiments were carried out in an atmospheric pressure, laboratory-scale dump combustor operating on natural gas. Combustion instabilities in present study exhibited a longitudinal mode with a dominant frequency of ${\sim}341.8$ Hz, which corresponded to a quarter wave mode of combustor. Heat release and pressure waves were in-phase when instability occurred. Results gave an insight about the location where the strong coherence of pressure and heat release existed. Also an additional information on active control to suppress the combustion instabilities was obtained. For lean premixed combustion, strong correlation between $OH{\ast}$ and NOx emissions was expected largely due to the exponential dependence of thermal NOx mechanism on flame temperature.
