A two-dimensional linear method has been developed for the motion and the second-order steady force arising from the hydrodynamic coupling between waves and currents in the presence of a body of arbitrary shape. Interaction between the incident wave and current in the absence of the body lies in the realm beyond our interest. A Fredholm integral equation of the second kind is employed in association with the Haskind's potential for a steadily moving source of pulsating strength located in or below the free surface. The numerical calculations at the preliminary stage showed a significant fluctuation of the hydrodynamic forces on the surface-piercing body. The problem is approximately solved by using the asymptotic Green function for $U^2{\rightarrow}0$. The original Green function, however, is applied for the fully submerged body. Numerical calculations are made for a submerged and for a half-immersed circular cylinder and extensively for the mid-ship section of a Lewis-form. Some of the results are compared with other analytical results without any available experimental data. The current has strong influence on roll motion near resonance. When the current opposes the waves, the roll response are generally negligible in the low frequency region. The current has strong influence on roll motion near resonance. When the current opposes the wave, the roll response decreases. When the current and wave come from the same direction, the roll response increases significantly, as the current speed increases. The mean drift forces and moment on the submerged body are more affected by current than those on the semi-immersed circular cylinder or on the ship-like section in the encounter frequency domain.
Recent narrow-band Ca photometry discovered two distinct red giant branch (RGB) populations in some massive globular clusters (GCs) including M22, NGC 1851, and NGC 288. In order to investigate the differences in light/heavy elements abundances between the two subpopulations, we have performed low-resolution spectroscopy for stars on the two RGBs in these GCs. We find a significant difference (more than $4{\sigma}$) in calcium abundance from the spectroscopic HK' index for both M22 and NGC 1851. We also find a more than $8{\sigma}$ difference in CN band strength between the Ca-strong and Ca-weak subpopulations. For NGC 288, however, we detect the presence of a large difference only in the CN strength. The calcium abundances of the two subpopulations in this GC are identical within errors. We also find interesting differences in CN-CH relations among these GCs. While CN and CH indices are correlated in M22, they show an anti-correlation in NGC 288. However, NGC 1851 shows no difference in CH between two groups of stars having different CN strengths. The CN bimodality in these GCs could be explained by pollution from intermediate-mass asymptotic giant branch stars and/or fast-rotating massive stars. For the presence or absence of calcium bimodality and the differences in CN-CH relations, we suggest these would be best explained by how strongly type II supernovae enrichment has contributed to the chemical evolutions of these GCs.
This paper describes relative age and growth pattern of the blood cockle, Tegillarca granosa (Linnaeus) in Yeoja Bay, southern coast of Korea. The young shell of blood cockle that spawned from July to August reached 5.60 mm $({\pm}\;1.07)$ in shell height in October. Slow growing season was estimated to be from October to the next May with water temperature under $23^{\circ}C$. With warm water temperature in July to September, the growth was fast. The young shells reached 29 percentage of asymptotic shell height 11-15 months after spawning. Growth was estimated by von Bertalanffy growth function as follows. $I_t(sh_t)=46.1317\;(1-e^{-0.4997(t-0.5828)})$.

In this paper, we study the opportunistic cooperation scheme that improves the outage performance through the efficient selection between a cooperative mode and a non-cooperative mode. Especially, in decode-and-forward relaying systems, we analyze the outage performance for the opportunistic cooperation using partial relay selection, where closed-form expressions of exact and asymptotic outage probabilities are derived assuming independent and identically distributed Rayleigh fading channels. In the numerical results, we verify the derived expressions, and investigate the outage performances for various target data rates and different numbers of relays. Also, we compare the outage performances of the conventional cooperation scheme and the opportunistic cooperation scheme.

The objective of the present study is to investigate the characteristics of the dividing flow in the laminar flow region. Using glycerine water solution(wt43%) for Newtonian fluid and the polymer of viscoelastic fluid(500wppm) for non-Newtonian fluid, this research investigates the flow state of the dividing tube in steady laminar flow region of the two dimensional dividing tube by measuring the effect of Reynolds number, dividing angle, and the flow rate ratio on the loss coefficient. In T- and Y-type tubes, the loss coefficients of the Newtonian fluid decreases in constant rate when the Reynolds number is below 100. The effect of the flow rate ratio on the loss coefficients is negligible. But when the Reynolds number is over 100, the loss coefficient with various flow rate ratios approach an asymptotic value. The loss coefficient of the non-Newtonian fluid for different the Reynolds number shows the similar tendency of the Newtonian fluid. And when the Reynolds number is over 300, the loss coefficient is approximately 1.03 regardless of flow rate ratio or the dividing angle. The aspect ratio does hardly influence the reattachment length and the loss coefficient of both Newtonian and non Newtonian fluid. The loss coefficient decreases as the Reynolds number increases. The loss coefficient of Newtonian fluid is larger than that of non-Newtonian fluid.
The objective of this study was to estimate variance components and genetic parameters for growth curve parameters in Guilan sheep. Studied traits were parameters of Brody growth model which included A (asymptotic mature weight), B (initial animal weight) and K (maturation rate). The data set and pedigree information used in this study were obtained from the Agricultural Organization of Guilan province (Rasht, Iran) and comprised 8647 growth curve records of lambs from birth to 240 days of age during 1994 to 2014. Marginal posterior distributions of parameters and variance components were estimated using TM program. The Gibbs sampler was run 300000 rounds and the first 60000 rounds were discarded as a burn-in period. Posterior mean estimates of direct heritabilities for A, B and K were 0.39, 0.23 and 0.039, respectively. Estimates of direct genetic correlation between growth curve parameters were 0.57, 0.03 and -0.01 between A-B, A-K and B-K, respectively. Estimates of direct genetic trends for A, B and K were positive and their corresponding values were $0.014{\pm}0.003$ (P < 0.001), $0.0012{\pm}0.0009$ (P > 0.05) and $0.000002{\pm}0.0001$ (P > 0.05), respectively. Residual correlations between growth curve parameters varied form -0.52 (between A-K) to 0.48 (between A-B). Also, phenotypic correlations between growth curve parameters varied form -0.49 (between A-K) to 0.47 (between A-B). The results of this study indicated that improvement of growth curve parameters of Guilan sheep seems feasible in selection programs. It is worthwhile to develop a selection strategy to obtain an appropriate shape of growth curve through changing genetically the parameters of growth model.

Samples of Corbicula ( Corbicula) japonica Prime of Namdae Stream in Gangnung were collected from November 2000 to October 2001. Age of C. (C.) japonica was determined from the rings on the shell, The shell length of the samples ranged from 8 mm to 38 mm. The ring on the shell was formed once a year in March. Von Bertalanffy's growth parameters were estimated using a nonlinear regression method, asyinptotie shell length ($L_{\omega}$) was 48,98 mm, K was 0.20421year, theoretical age at 0 shell length $(t_0)$ was 0.3169 year, and asymptotic total weight ($W_{\omega}$) was 41.37 g. The formula of allomeky between shell length (L, mm) and total weight (W, g) of the brackish water clam was W=3.42$\times$10^{-4}L^{3}. The annual survival rate was estimated at 0.3799, instantaneous coefficient of natural mortality was 0.5007/year, and instantaneous coefficient of fishing mortality was 0.46721year. The age at first capture was estimated at 2.1593 year using shell length compositions of the brackish water clam, The current yield-per-recruit at 0.4672/year of fishing mortality was 0.6595 g. F_0.1 was estimated at 0.1865/year, Acceptable biological catch was estimated at 14.4 metric ton.

The accurate prediction of the ship wave resistance is very important to design ships which operate satisfactorily in a wave environment. Thus, work should continue on development and validation of methods to compute ship wave patterns and wave resistance. Research efforts to improve the prediction of ship waves and wavemaking resistance are categorized in two major areas. First is the development of higher-order theories to take account of the nonlinear effect of the free surface condition and improved analytical treatment of the body boundary condition. Second is the development of direct numerical methods aimed at solving body and free-surface boundary conditions as accurately as possible. A new formulation of the slender body theory for a ship with constant speed is developed by Maruo. It is quite different from the existing slender ship theory by Vossers, Maruo and Tuck. It may be regarded as a substitute for the Neumann-Kelvin approximation. In present work, the method of asymptotic expansion of the Kelvin source is applied to obtain a new wave resistance formulation in fluid of finite depth. It takes a simple form than existing theory.

This paper addresses an intelligent digital redesign (IDR) technique for observer-based output-feedback control systems, in order to efficiently convert a pre-designed Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model-based analog controller into a sampled-data one in the sense of state matching. A delta operator is used to get an asymptotic relation between the analog and the sampled-data control systems. The IDR problem is viewed as a minimization problem of the norm distances between linear operator to be matched. The condition is represented as linear matrix inequalities, and the separation principle on the IDR is shown.

We investigate the worst case complexity regarding the number of comparisons for a simple and stable merging algorithm. The complexity analysis shows that the algorithm performs O(mlog(n/m)) comparisons for two sequences of sizes m and n $m{\leq}n$. So, according to the lower bound for merging $\Omega$(mlog(n/m)), the algorithm is asymptotically optimal regarding the number of comparisons. For proving the worst case complexity we divide the domain of all inputs into two disjoint cases. For either of these cases we will extract a special subcase and prove the asymptotic optimality for these two subcases. Using this knowledge for special cases we will prove the optimality for all remaining cases. By using this approach we give a transparent solution for the hardly tractable problem of delivering a clean complexity analysis for the algorithm.
